A Blessing for Fathers We bless you and we praise you, God of our fathers! You are the God of Adam, father of the human family. You are the God of Abraham, our father in faith,
who was ready and willing to give up everything to be faithful to you. You are the God of Isaac, who was born of laughter and old age,
and the God of Jacob, whose clever trick gained an inheritance for twelve tribes of sons and daughters.
You are the God of Jesse, from whose loins a nation sprang, a sturdy family tree of monarchs, prophets and priests.
You are the God and Father of Israel, your child whom you love with all your heart.
You are the God of Zechariah, who fathered the Baptist and taught him the Torah, and of Joachim, the grandfather of Jesus.
You are the God of Joseph, who loved and raised Jesus as his own. You are the God and Father of Jesus, and our Father in heaven, too.
Holy is your Name! We thank you, God, for the gift of our fathers,
for grandfathers and godfathers and fathers-in-law, too. Send your Holy Spirit upon our fathers,
in whose laps we were cradled, on whose knees we were bounced, by whose hands we were fed, instructed, at times corrected, in whose company we learned to work and play and pray, at whose side we hear your word and celebrate your mysteries.
Heal their pains and disappointments. Forgive all that needs to be forgiven. Give to them the good that they have given others. Welcome into your arms those who have died. Fill this world, O God, with a father’s love! We ask this through your Son Jesus Christ,
who taught us to pray to you as Abba. He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
who is Father of the poor, one God forever and ever. Amen.

Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin?
not one of them falls to the ground without your
Father’s knowledge. MATTHEW 10:29
June 21, 2020
The psalmist assures us that “the Lord hears the poor.” Often, however, He
answers their need through the generous gifts of good stewards.
Rosary Prayer Group The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. this Sunday, June 21, inside Old St. Vincent Church - Chapel of Ease (downtown Cape Girardeau).
Act of Spiritual Communion The “Act of Spiritual Communion” is a prayer for anyone who desires to receive the Eucharist but is unable.
“My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.”
Newman Center Mass During the construction of the new St. John Henry Newman Center, the 6:00 p.m. Sunday Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Cathedral.

Good News Regarding Mass After Governor Parson’s recent lessening of Coronavirus directives in the State of Missouri, Bishop Rice is allowing parishes in Southern Missouri to resume having Holy Communion at the normal time during Mass. Both Cape Girardeau parishes, the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Vincent de Paul, will resume the normal time for Holy Communion starting this Monday, June 22. All the other directives remain in place.
Peter’s Pence Collection At all Masses next weekend, June 27 - 28, the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection. This collection provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. This is an opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to suffering brothers and sisters. Support the collection today by using Faith Direct, by mailing your envelope to the parish office, or by dropping it in the collection basket/box!
Information about Father Saviour Nundwe
Father Saviour, an Associate Pastor here at St. Vincent de Paul from 2008 to 2010, is no longer a priest in good standing with the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. He is in the process of being laicized from the Catholic priesthood. Father Saviour lives in Africa in his home country of Zambia and is apparently soliciting funds for a ministry that he is supposedly sponsoring. This is not a legitimate ministry that is approved by the Catholic Church. Sadly, giving money to this ministry may not be a real donation to the ministry.

Annual Wedding Anniversary Celebration Sunday, September 20, 2020 2:30 p.m.
St. Mary's Cathedral, Cape Girardeau, Missouri Preparations are underway for the annual Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Celebration. The event includes a special Mass with Bishop Edward M. Rice, followed by a reception. This occasion enables the celebration and affirmation of the great gift of married love within families and communities. Make plans to attend! You are asked to register even if you are not attending the celebration as Bishop Rice wants to grant his blessing to your marriage. If, because of Covid-19 precautions, this year's gathering needs to be cancelled or modified, a blessing will be mailed to all registered married couples. To properly prepare, please register by August 21, 2020. The registration form can be found on the Family Life page of the diocesan website at https://dioscg.org/about/family-ministries/. You may also email the info to [email protected]. If you have questions about registration, please contact the parish office at 335-7667 or [email protected].
Diocesan Development Fund The Diocesan Development Fund Campaign (DDF) is the annual campaign for the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. The funds raised through the campaign advance the mission of the Catholic Church through a host of ministries that assist families, parishes, and the Diocese as a whole.
This year St. Vincent’s parish goal is $250,000 with a participation goal of 600 households. To date St. Vincent parishioners have given $142,075 (56.8%) toward the goal. 292 families (48.7% of donor goal) have responded so far with a pledge of prayer and money. Thank you! Please be generous and remember DDF in your prayers.

Considerations before coming to Mass
• Bishop Rice has dispensed the faithful from the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday for the time being.
• Those who are symptomatic, or who have been exposed to another with the Coronavirus within 14 days, are not permitted to enter church in accordance with national, state, and local health directives.
• All attendees are asked to check their temperature at home before coming to Mass.
• Those who are at risk because of an underlying health issue, or who are 60 years old or older, are strongly encouraged, for their own health, to avoid the risk of attending public celebrations of the Mass.
Directives during this time of Social Distancing • If you come to Church as a family, please sit together as a family group.
You should be seated at least six feet from other families. Remember, there are to be NO hugs or handshakes!
• The Church space is limited to 30% of the normal seating capacity. This means that the Church space will seat approximately 150-200 people.
• Please remember that Mass is celebrated Monday to Saturday at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday Mass is at the regular time of 5:15 p.m. Also during the summer, weekday Masses will be celebrated on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:10 p.m.
• Meetings may be held if social distancing is maintained but these need to be scheduled through the parish office and approved by Father Rick. Proper sanitation needs to take place after each meeting by the group members of that meeting.
• There are to be no special dinners or events that would bring a large crowd together through the end of June.
• The “Family Room/Cry Room” will only have a few chairs in it.
Cleanliness and Godliness • The Church will be supplied with plenty of hand sanitizer in various
locations. • Remember that the Church space is sanitized after each Mass. When
Mass is not being celebrated, the Church will be open for visitation. The Church will generally be open from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
• Hymnals have been removed. Please bring your own missal. • Please bring your own face mask and you are encouraged to wear it. • Please be open and flexible to these “social distancing” guidelines …
everyone is still learning how to live in this new way!
Attending Mass during the Pandemic ➔
Beginning this weekend, the parish returns to the regular Sunday Mass schedule. If a Mass becomes full using the “social distancing” parameters, parishioners will be directed to the upper meeting room where each Mass will be televised from Church. You will be able to see and hear the Mass as it takes place. At Communion time, a Eucharistic Minister will bring Holy Communion to the upper meeting room. Thank you for your patience once again during this time of learning how to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic.
Welcome to St. Vincent de Paul If you would like to register for the parish, change your address, or simply have questions, please fill out the form and place it in the
collection basket. You may also mail it to the parish office at 1913 Ritter Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701. Please free to contact
parish office staff anytime during regular office hours, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. You may

First Reading Jeremiah 20:10-20
Jeremiah said: “I hear the whisperings
of many: ‘Terror on every side!
Denounce! let us denounce him!’
All those who were my friends are on
the watch for any misstep of mine.
‘Perhaps he will be trapped; then we
can prevail, and take our vengeance on
him.’ But the Lord is with me, like a
mighty champion: my persecutors will
stumble, they will not triumph.
In their failure they will be put to utter
shame, to lasting, unforgettable
confusion. O Lord of hosts, you who
test the just, who probe mind and heart,
let me witness the vengeance you take
on them, for to you I have entrusted my
cause. Sing to the Lord, praise the
Lord, for he has rescued the life of the
poor from the power of the wicked!”
Responsorial Psalm Lord, in your great love, answer me.
Second Reading Romans 5:12-15
Brothers and sisters: Through one man
sin entered the world, and through sin,
death, and thus death came to all men,
inasmuch as all sinned— for up to the
time of the law, sin was in the world,
though sin is not accounted when there
is no law. But death reigned from Adam
to Moses, even over those who did not
sin after the pattern of the trespass of
Adam, who is the type of the one who
was to come.
But the gift is not like the transgression.
For if by the transgression of the one
the many died, how much more did the
grace of God and the gracious gift of the
one man Jesus Christ overflow for the
many.

Closing On Eagle’s Wings Gospel Reading Matthew 10:26-33
Jesus said to the Twelve: “Fear no
one. Nothing is concealed that will
not be revealed, nor secret that will
not be known. What I say to you in
the darkness, speak in the light;
what you hear whispered, proclaim
on the housetops. And do not be
afraid of those who kill the body but
cannot kill the soul; rather, be
afraid of the one who can destroy
both soul and body in Gehenna.
Are not two sparrows sold for a
small coin? Yet not one of them falls
to the ground without your Father’s
knowledge. Even all the hairs of
your head are counted. So do not be
afraid; you are worth more than
many sparrows. Everyone who
acknowledges me before others
I will acknowledge before my
heavenly Father. But whoever
denies me before others, I will deny
before my heavenly Father.”
