From the desk of Executive Director, Keith Liddiardmaking our hosting of the event such a reward-ing and enjoyable experience. The Provincial ACup was a great trial run for KYSA in advanceof our hosting the Canadian Under-16 ClubChampionships in October next year.

The KYSA is scheduled to play host to a num-ber of games in the BC Soccer Premier Leagueon Saturday, September 22nd. TOFC plays hostto teams from Surrey United and AbbotsfordMagnuson Ford. All games will take place atMcArthur Island. Schedules will be posted onthe KYSA web site when finalized.

Former Vancouver Whitecaps and CanadianNational Team Head Coach Tony Waiters cameto Kamloops August 13-15 at the invitation ofthe KYSA. Tony is one of the most successfulprofessional coaches in Canadian soccer his-tory, having taken the Whitecaps to its one andonly major league title––the NASL Soccer BowlChampionship in 1979––and the CanadianMen’s team to the World Cup in Mexico in1986, Canada’s only appearance in the finals.Tony worked with a couple of dozen players inthe KYSA’s soccer school dedicated to goal-keepers and with 20 players in the association’shigh performance camp. He also conductedtwo coaching sessions for our parent-volunteercoaches while he was in town.

The KYSA is “re-branding” its winter playerdevelopment initiatives for 2012-13. The pro-grams will no longer fall under the “DistrictDevelopment Centre” or the “Kamloops Devel-

We only man-aged one firstplace finish in

the Provincial A Cup finals, but our teamsgave a good account ofthemselves in just aboutall of the thirty-sixgames they played dur-ing the tournament.

Considering our teams only play competitivelyfor two and a half months in the Spring andSummer, while the coastal and island teams goalmost year round, we did very well. We alsohad two Silver medal placings and with a luck-ier bounce of the ball may have had a few moremedal winners out of the nine teams KYSAqualified for the tournament. Aside from thematch results, the A Cup was a huge success, thanks in no small part, to a timely improve-ment in the weather, which allowed us to playall 80 games on the lush grass at McArthur Island. Special thanks go to Neil Farber, Secretary of the Kamloops Soccer Referees Association, and all the local game officialswho took part, for the role they played in thesuccess of the event. This high level competi-tion gave our up and coming referees a greatopportunity to help develop their talent andskills as well as the players. Thanks, also, toour hard working staff––Carolyn, Clive andSarah, our corps of field marshals––Briana andKaitlyn Guise, Emily and Rachel Cantin andCandise White, a group of truly dedicated volunteers led by President Graham Cope, for
