Almighty God, by water and your Holy Spirit you baptized us to be your own and called the church into being. We confess that we hold back the love of your Spirit among us. We do not listen for your word of grace, speak the good news of your love, or live as a people made one in Christ. Have mercy on us, O God. Transform our lives by the power of your Holy Spirit and make strong our common witness to the one Lord, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION ...................................................................... The Rev. Lorrie Ghering-Burick

THE FIRST SCRIPTURE LESSON: Psalm 139: 1-14 ............................................. The Rev. Lorrie Ghering-Burick

O LORD, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O LORD, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it. Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast. If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night’, even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you. For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.

THE CHORAL ANTHEM: "O Magnify the Lord" ....................................................................... arr. Tom Fettke The Sanctuary Choir

THE SECOND SCRIPTURE LESSON: Acts 5: 33-42 .............................................................. The Rev. Chris Tuttle

When they heard this, they were enraged and wanted to kill them. But a Pharisee in the council named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, respected by all the people, stood up and ordered the men to be put outside for a short time. Then he said to them, ‘Fellow-Israelites, consider carefully what you propose to do to these men. For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined him; but he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and disappeared. After him Judas the Galilean rose up at the time of the census and got people to follow him; he also perished, and all who followed him were scattered. So in the present case, I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone; because if this plan or this undertaking is of human origin, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them—in that case you may even be found fighting against God!’ They were convinced by him, and when they had called in the apostles, they had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. As they left the council, they rejoiced that they were considered worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name. And every day in the temple and at home they did not cease to teach and proclaim Jesus as the Messiah.

THE SERMON: "Outer Banks Presbyterian, Jody, and a Couple of Little Blue Vans" ... The Rev. Chris Tuttle

THE HYMN OF PRAISE NO. 69: “I, the Lord of Sea and Sky" .............................................................. HERE I AM

~ The Installation ~

THE LITANY OF GIFTS (Spoken Responsively – based on Rom. 12: 4-8, 11-13) ........................... The Rev. Chris Tuttle

ONE: As in one body we have many parts and each part has its own function, so all of us together with Christ are one body, and we all belong to each other. ALL: We have different gifts according to the grace God has given us. ONE: If your gift is to hear God’s Word, ALL: speak it out in faith. ONE: If your gift is service, ALL: live to serve others. ONE: If your gift is the heart of a teacher, ALL: teach what is true. ONE: Let preachers preach with conviction, and givers give freely; ALL: let officers work diligently for the people, and let those who serve the poor, serve gladly. ONE: Let us not lack for enthusiasm, but be ardent in spirit, ALL: serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope, patient in suffering, constant in prayer, supporting one another, and welcoming all.

THE STATEMENT ON THE MINISTRY OF THE CHURCH ................................................................ Martha Stevenson

THE CONSTITUTIONAL QUESTIONS TO THE PASTOR .......................................................................... Justine Piper

Do you trust in the Lord Jesus Christ your Savior, acknowledge him Lord of all and Head of the Church, and through him believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

I do.

Do you accept the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be, by the Holy Spirit, the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ in the Church universal, and God’s Word to you ?

I do.

Do you sincerely receive and adopt the essential tenets of the Reformed faith as expressed in the confessions of our church as authentic and reliable expositions of what Scripture leads us to believe and do, and will you be instructed and led by those confessions as you lead the people of God?

I do and I will.

Will you be a minister of the Word and Sacrament in obedience to Jesus Christ, under the authority of Scripture and continually guided by the confessions?

I will.

Will you be governed by our church’s polity, and will you abide by its discipline? Will you be a friend among your colleagues in ministry, working with them, subject to the ordering of God’s Word and Spirit?

I will.

Will you in your own life seek to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, love your neighbors, and work for the reconciliation of the world?

I will.

Do you promise to further the peace, unity, and purity of the church?

I do.

Will you pray for and seek to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love?

I will.

Will you be a faithful minister, proclaiming the good news in Word and Sacrament, teaching faith, and caring for people? Will you be active in government and discipline, serving in the governing bodies of the church, and in your ministry will you try to show the love and justice of Jesus Christ?

I will.

THE CONSTITUTIONAL QUESTIONS TO THE CONGREGATION ................................................................... Art Bethel

Do we, the members of the church, accept The Rev. Joseph Gilbert Moore, Jr. as our pastor, chosen by God through the voice of this congregation to guide us in the way of Jesus Christ?

We do.

Do we agree to encourage him, to respect his decisions, and to follow as he guides us, serving Jesus Christ who alone is Head of the Church?

We do.

Do we promise to pay him fairly, and provide for his welfare as he works among us; to stand by him in trouble, and share his joy? Will we listen to the word he preaches, welcome his pastoral care, and honor his authority as he seeks to honor and obey Jesus Christ our Lord?

We do and we will.

THE PRAYER OF INSTALLATION & THE LORD’S PRAYER ..................................................... The Rev. Jason Leonard

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Outer Banks Presbyterian Church. Our Church exists to worship God in Jesus Christ in Word and Sacrament; to join others to know the joy of God’s forgiveness in Jesus Christ; to grow under the Lordship of Christ and to serve Christ’s world in His name. We invite you to share with us our trust in Jesus Christ and to join us as we strive to:

Grow and strengthen our FAITH,

Love and support our FAMILY,

Reach out to our FRIENDS in need.

We encourage you to read “Sue’s Story,” the inspiration behind these goals in its entirety, on our website, on a brochure in the Gathering Space or on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall. We hope you will be inspired as we have been.

At OBPC, we recognize all our visitors as God’s children, united as brothers and sisters in Christ. We hope our service inspires you and strengthens your faith. We hope you will join us again in celebration and worship to God. If you are interested in becoming a member or would like to know more about our church and our programs, please contact us!

Our church believes providing worship for visitors is a vital part of our mission. Our building was planned to accommodate the many visitors who come to this vacation community. This places an additional financial challenge on our resident membership. We need and welcome financial support from our visitors.
