Academic LevelsAcademic: Courses with the core academic curriculum for all levels.
Accelerated (A): College preparatory courses that will challenge students and prepare them well as they pursue a post-secondary education.
Honors (H): Honors courses require a high level of academic maturity, interest, ability, reading, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to study and work independently. The pace is rigorous and enrollment is selective.
Movement Between Ability Groupings may occur as outlined below:
● Students in (A) level courses must maintain an average of B+ or better to advance to an Honors course.
● Students in an Honors course must maintain an average of B- or better to enroll in subsequent courses of the same ability grouping.
● Students who do not meet the minimum grade requirements above must complete an Application for Advanced Study.
● The application process is explained in the Application for Advanced Study form found online at www.shsd.org starting tomorrow.
