1. To inform the participants at the semi-annual meetings as to the most current state of clinical and basic research in gynecologic oncology, particularly, but not exclusively as it relates to clinical field trials by:
Progress reports of recent completed GOG studies, cancer center activities, and work of other groups and efforts of individual investigators.
Status update of current trials, whether a group or non-group in origin.
Projections of future clinical programs to diagnose treat and/or prevent cancer.
2. To provide participants with peer review critique of pro-gress (or lack of it) with the objective of self-improvement:
Identify strengths and weakness of individual investi-gators and their institutions.
Counsel investigators in corrective procedures to obtain better research and better-reported data.
Set up detailed programs for quality and productivity from a basic foundation of education of the investiga-tor in research objectives and procedures.
3. To provide an opportunity to learn research administration and financial management in a cooperative group setting.
4. To provide a lecture type forum of reports from experts from many fields that may relate to better research of patient man-agement.
The GOG has as its main objective to provide an appropriate instrument to test new ideas for prevention of female pelvic ma-lignancies and management of patients with such malignancies. Currently over 3,300 patients are registered each year to GOG research trials.
A b o u t t h e G r o u p The Gynecologic Oncology Group “GOG” is one of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) funded cooperative cancer research groups. GOG is the only group, which focuses its research on women with pelvic malignancies, such as cancer of the ovary, uterus and cervix.
The GOG was organized in 1970 by a group of gynecologic surgeons with a special interest in quality clinical research. They recognized the need for a collaborative research effort, not only among institutions, but also among the various disciplines involved in the treatment of women with gynecologic cancers. The GOG was among the first organizations to adopt a multidis-ciplinary, multi-institutional, prospective approach to the man-agement of pelvic malignancies in women.
Since 1970, the GOG has grown from 11 original member insti-tutions to over 60 principal centers, most of which are academic centers and over 160 affiliate institutions. The GOG is a multi-modality group with over twenty-one hundred participants. The GOG is the foremost multidisciplinary cooperative clinical trials research group devoted to the study of gynecologic malignan-cies in the world. The GOG is recognized as the leader in the development of new procedures in each of the relevant diagnos-tic and therapeutic disciplines.
P u r p o s e o f E x h i b i t The purpose of the exhibits is to allow companies an opportunity to inform the membership about drugs, supplies and services that are available in the field of gynecologic oncology.
A t t e n d e e s a t o u r M e e t i n g s The GOG Semi-Annual Meeting attendance totals over 900 attendees. The attendance is made up of: Gynecologic Oncologists Medical Oncologists
