Construction:General:• All construction to be in accordance with

current National Electrical Code® (NEC),National Electrical Manufacturers'Association (NEMA), state and localstandards as designated by thepurchaser.

• All hazardous area enclosures for motorstarters, combination motor starters,circuit breakers, motor circuit protectors,instrument enclosures, panelboards,main bus, fittings, receptacles, andlighting fixtures shall be made andsupplied by the manufacturer.

• All explosionproof threaded enclosuresfor combination starters, circuit breakers,motor circuit protectors, and startersshall be UL classified.

• All other standard hazardous areaenclosures shall be UL listed or ULclassified.

• Manufacturer shall retain permanentrecords of all motor control racks andshall have the capability of duplicating,or replacing, any fully-assembled rack orrack component.

• Manufacturer to assume responsibilityfor construction, purchase/manufacturerof components, complete circuitcontinuity testing, and testing ofmechanical functions of components.

Rack Frame Design:Structure:• Switch rack, either single or double face

as required, shall be rigid, free-standingstructures. Racks shall be factory-welded, assembled and fabricated fromstandard rolled structural steel oraluminum shapes.

• Vertical risers will be 6" I-beam andhorizontal members shall be 6-inchchannel.

• Mounting feet shall be 6-inch channel.Width of such feet for single-sided racksshall be 41 inches.

• End mounting feet will be braced(welded) to the upright with 6" Tmember.

• Mounting feet shall be anchored at thejob site with 1-inch diameter bolts.Anchor bolts and mounting pads will bethe responsibility of the user.

• Maximum horizontal spacing betweenmounting legs shall not exceed 6 feet.(Specific dimensions to be determinedby the manufacturer.)

• Racks longer than 20 feet will besupplied as bolt-together sections.(Specific section dimensions to bedetermined by the manufacturer.)

Grounding:• A pressure-type grounding lug with

appropriate wire capacity will beprovided at each end of frame.

Finish:

• Rack frame shall be hot-dip galvanizedafter fabrication or natural aluminum.

Cooper Crouse-Hinds switch rack installed in a fuel storage area.

Main Bus Equipment:Class I, Division 1:

• Main bus material shall be copper onlyand capable of withstanding up to 65Kamps fault current. Cable bus will bewired to terminal blocks enclosed incast, copper-free aluminum,explosionproof junction boxes, CooperCrouse-Hinds type EJB. Such junctionboxes for incoming power anddistribution wiring shall be provided ateither the top or bottom of the rack.Enclosures shall be connected by rigidconduit with conduit seals installed inaccordance with the NEC. Load conduitor cable will leave rack either below orabove. Manufacturer shall provideconduit layouts.

Class I, Division 2:

Canopy (Optional):• Single- or double-pitched canopy shall

have minimum 15-degree pitch with aminimum 7'6" ground clearance, and 2-foot overhang. Roofing material shall becorrugated aluminum. Canopy rooftrusses, cross channels, roof material,and mounting hardware shall beshipped unassembled for quickassembly at the job site. All holes instructure shall be provided except forroof mounting holes which will be drilledin the field. Manufacturer will supplydrawings and material for complete fieldassembly of canopy.

Motor ControlComponents:Explosionproof Quick Opening

Enclosures:

• All circuit breakers, motor circuitprotectors and combination or across-the-line motor starters shall be enclosedin quick-opening enclosures (CooperCrouse-Hinds types EBM or EPC).

Types:

• Ground joint bolted cover enclosureshall be Cooper Crouse-Hinds typeEBM, Underwriters Laboratories Inc.classified for use in Class I, Groups C,D, Divisions 1 and 2, Class II, Groups E,F, G, Divisions 1 and 2 and Class IIIhazardous locations and shall also besuitable for Type 3, 3R and/or Type 4(NEMA 3, 3R and 4) areas.

• All enclosures shall be cast of acorrosion-resistant copper-freealuminum alloy (less than 0.4% copper)and shall be of a semi clamshell designwith external flange to promote ease ofapparatus installation, adjustment andmaintenance. Most importantly,enclosure inside dimensions shallconform to the wire bending spacerequirements of the National Electricalcode NFPA70 paragraph 373-6.Enclosures with flat covers, internalflanges or those not conforming toNFPA70 paragraph 373-6 are notpermitted.

• Covers shall be hinged on the left sideand, when closed, shall be affixed topthe body by multiple lead thread bolts topromote quick opening and closing ofthe enclosure.

• Cover bolts shall be hex head stainlesssteel without screwdriver slots, topromote the use of a socket or wrenchfor proper tightening. They shall becaptive to the cover and stainless steelspring loaded to indicate the fullyunthreaded position. Spring loading shallgive visual indication that the bolts arefree of the body when the cover is beingopened. The cover flange ground jointshall have an integeral gasket to preventthe entry of windblown dust, rain orsleet.

• All enclosures shall be fitted, asstandard, with adjustable, extended,corrosion-resistant, copper-freealuminum hinges that shall allow thecover to swing away from the bodywhen opened and shall permitunobstructed working space formaintenance, adjustment or replacementof the internal apparatus. Additionallythese hinges shall allow minimumenclosure-to-enclosure spacing withlittle interference between an open coverand an adjacent enclosure. Enclosureswith hinges fabricated from steel oraluminum stampings shall not bepermitted.

• All enclosures shall be provided withdrilled, tapped and plugged conduitentrances suitably sized for the electricalapplication. Power conduit entrancesshall be located 1 (or 2) each on (orequally spaced from) the enclosurevertical centerline at top and bottom. Asingle, plugged 1" entrance for a controlconduit shall be provided at the bottomof the enclosure. (Some enclosures canalso be provided with a plugged 1"entrance for control conduit at the top.)

• All conduit entrances shall be furnishedwith removable copper-free aluminumreducers, each with integral wire pullingbushing. All conduit entrances shall belocated the same distance from theenclosure mounting surface to facilitateconduit run layout and/or stub upconstruction.

• All enclosures shall have rugged, castcopper-free aluminum circuit breakerand motor starter overload resetoperating handles located on the rightside of the enclosure. These handlesshall operate the internal mechanismsvia stainless steel, gasketed shafts andbearings through the side wall of thebody. Correct circuit breaker andoverload reset operation shall be visuallyconfirmed with the cover open.

• Circuit breaker handles shall bepadlockable in either the "OFF" or "ON"position, and shall be trip-free of thecircuit breaker itself. An attachedindicating plate shall give clear, visualconfirmation of the circuit breakerstatus.

• Adjustable circuit breaker handle stopsshall be provided to ensure full operationof the circuit breaker and to preventhandle overthrow that could damage thecircuit breaker toggle.

• Motor starter overload reset operatingmechanisms shall be field adjustable.

• Threaded construction enclosures shallbe Cooper Crouse-Hinds type EPC,Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. classifiedfor use in Class I, Groups C, D, Divisions1 and 2, Class II, Groups E, F, GDivisions 1 and 2 and Class IIIhazardous locations and shall also besuitable for Type 3, 3R and/or Type 4(NEMA 3, 3R and 4) areas.

• All enclosures shall be cast of acorrosion-resistant copper-freealuminum alloy (less than 0.4% copper)and shall be of a three section design.Multiple-start straight buttress threadsbetween the covers and the body shallensure quick access to the interior inless than two full turns of the covers. Asystem of stops shall preventovertightening and thread seizing. Asystem of locks shall prevent coversfrom loosening due to external vibration.

• Female threads on the top cover withmale threads on the bottom cover shallensure inherent water and rain shedding.

• All exposed screws, bolts and hardwareshall be stainless steel.

• The external circuit breaker operatinghandle affixed to a stainless steel shaft,shall be padlockable in either the "ON"or "OFF" position with up to threepadlocks. Circuit breaker mechanismsshall be trip-free of the circuit breakeritself to allow the circuit breaker to openunder overload conditions even if it islocked in the "ON" position.

• The mounting bracket shall provide athree-point suspension system for quickinstallation and adjustment.

• Conduit entrances shall have integralwire pulling bushings and conduit stops.These openings shall be arranged two atthe top and two at the bottom and shallbe sized for power and controlrequirements.

General:• All enclosures shall be bolted to the

horizontal frame members on either thefront or back or both front and back.Enclosures shall be connected to themain bus via conduit seals. (To be fieldpoured). All hardware used to mount theenclosures shall be stainless steel.

Lighting Panelboards:Class I, Division 1:

• Panelboards shall be Cooper Crouse-Hinds type, factory-sealed EXD or EPLas specified and shall meet the followingelectrical ratings:EPL – 1, 2 or 3 pole, 240 volt maximum,100 amp maximum branch trip rating,10,000 AIC.EXD – 1, 2 or 3 pole, 600 voltmaximum, 100 amp maximum branchtrip rating.

Class I, Division 2:

• Lighting panelboard shall be CooperCrouse-Hinds type D2L factory-sealed,120 / 240 volt panelboards and beprovided with single-pole, two-pole, orthree-pole branch circuit breakers withup to 100 amp trip rating; main breakerranging to 225 amp. Similarly, lightingpanelboard shall be type D2PB factory-sealed, 120 / 240 volt panelboards andbe provided with single-pole or two-polefactory sealed circuit breakers with 15,20 or 30 amp trip ratings and maximum10,000 AIC. Power panelboards typeD2D factory-sealed, up to 600 volt areprovided with single-pole, two-pole, orthree-pole branch circuit breakers withup to 100 amp trip ratings; main breakerrating to 225 amp.

NEMA 4X Option:• All bus boxes, control enclosures and

lighting panelboards will be made ofKRYDON® material to meet NEMA 4Xrequirements.

Fittings:• All fittings shall be made and provided

by the manufacturer. Seals and unionswill be provided for each incoming andoutgoing conduit as required. Allinterconnections between componentsshall be done by the manufacturer withgalvanized rigid conduit, and conduitfittings as required to meet thehazardous classification. Interconnectingconduits to be provided with conduitseals as required. All incoming andoutgoing rack conduit entrances shallinclude conduit seals as required by thehazardous location specified. Such sealswill be provided by the manufacturer andwill not be filled where field wiring is tobe introduced.

Conduit Boxes, OutletBoxes, Device Boxes:• Conduit boxes, outlet boxes, and device

boxes shall be Cooper Crouse-HindsCondulet® fittings.

Seals:

• Seals will be standard Cooper Crouse-Hinds type Condulet EYS. (CooperCrouse-Hinds Condulet EYD drains tobe specified as required.)

Unions:

• Unions will be Cooper Crouse-HindsUNY.

Breathers and Drains:

• Breathers and drains shall be CooperCrouse-Hinds ECD.

Wiring:• Standard wire shall be copper only,

600 volt, 75°C minimum rating, ULlisted.

• No power wire less than 12AWGshall be used.

• Control wire shall be 14AWGminimum, 7 strands, THWminimum.

• Wiring shall be sized in accordancewith the NEC requirements.

Drawings:• Standard drawings supplied for

customer approval shall includecomplete rack wiring diagram,component data, nominal weight ofthe rack, and overall rackdimensions.

Applications:• Cooper Crouse-Hinds is now offering NEMA 3R, UL Listed Bus

Duct (Termination Box) Assemblies as standard product. Up to600V, three-phase, 3 or 4 wire, 400Amp or 600Amp service withshort circuit ratings of 25K or 50K.

• Bus ducts or termination boxes provide a means of tapping feedercircuits for power distribution on outdoor switchrack assembliesor indoor wall-mounted applications.

• Typical application is primarily for bus replacements on existingswitchrack installations. New applications may include on-siteconstruction of switchracks or indoor feeder distribution pointsdue to space confinements making local installation morepractical.

Features:• UL Listed.• NEMA 3R.• Maximum voltage rating 600V.• 400Amp or 600Amp @ 25KAIC or 50KAIC.• External flange on bus duct enclosure and lip on covers prevents

water leakage and allows covers to hang freely for ease ofinstallation and maintenance.
