THE TOWN OF STONEY CREEKA Wonderful Place To Live
Stoney Creek is a Canadian community located in Ontario. It was a municipality before but now, it is already part of Hamilton (a port city in Ontario). This change took place after consolidation by the province in the year 2001. More specifically, Stoney Creek in Ontario is situated on the south shore of western Lake Ontario which is one of the North America’s five Great Lakes. It was in 1984 when it became a city. In spite of the explosion of residential growth, most of the Stoney Creek Ontario’s land mass remains agricultural. We can be reminded of its agricultural legacy through distinct communities namely Winona, Elfrida, Vinemount, Fruitland, Tweedside and Tapleytown.
In 2002, Stoney Creek in Ontario lost its status of Independence. It is due to the merging of Stoney Creek altogether with Hamilton, Ancaster, Flamborough, Glanbrook and Dundas formally by the Provincial Government into the new city of Hamilton. This occurrence led to the conversion of the new City Hall of Stoney Creek that is worth multi- million dollars into a Stoney Creek Public Library. Based on the Census conducted in 2002, Stoney Creek’s population increased to 5.5 percent compared to the census in 1997. The total population’s 25% was foreign born.
In terms of the people’s religious composition of Stoney Creek in Ontario, Roman Catholic has the largest percentage (48.3%) followed by Protestant with 28.5%. Other religions include Christian Orthodox, Other Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and other. As a matter of fact, 13% of the population has no religious affiliation. American colonists were the ones who settled the community after the American Revolution. Stoney Creek had no individual character or form until it was added to the map during the 1812 War by the Battle of Stoney Creek. The site where such battle took place has been preserved, with museum, monument and park associated with it, as Battlefield House (a living history museum). One of the most popular attractions in Stoney Creek in Ontario is the Erland Lee Museum which is the site where the world’s first Women’s Institute is located. Other attractions found in the place include Bruce Trail, Devil’s Punch Bowl, etc. There are important events held in Stoney Creek such as Winona Peach Festival, Flag Festival.
The temperate environment makes Stoney Creek in Ontario popular for fruit growing. As a matter of fact, the community has even become part of the winery region of Niagara, a regional municipality in Southern
Ontario, Canada. For several decades, the consistent major employer is agriculture. Additionally, it became a center for commuting residences, road transportation and light industry. This is due to that fact that the costs or prices of their lands are lower than those of other neighboring communities in Hamilton. QEW or Queen Elizabeth Way serves the community.
Along with Waterdown and Ancaster, Stoney Creek is one of the fastest- progressing Hamilton parts. Housing (i.e. condominiums, detached housing) has been growing over years. It was in 1984 when Stoney Creek achieved its city status. Today, it is one of the livable places in Canada. In fact, it is a good place to visit especially for travelers. The facilities that can be found in the community show that it has eventually become progressive. Moreover, Ontario where Stoney Creek is located, is the leading manufacturing province in Canada. The biggest trading partner of Ontario is Michigan, a state of America. The abundant natural resources and great transportation links of Stoney Creek can absolutely contribute to the achievement of progress for itself. The growing population can also be helpful in improving the quality of life in this new community or city.
