This will add a new dimension to mobile healthcare service delivery in the UAE by enabling remote medical diagnostics for pre- natal healthcare. Mobile Baby will allow medical practitioners to send ultrasound images, video clips and 3D scans to referring physicians for remote medical diagnostics. The application works directly from ultrasound machines, with images delivered to any mobile phone via SMS, MMS and e-mail. The Business Software Alliance (BSA) has signed a MoU with the UAE IPR Association (EIPA) to collaborate on the enhanced protection of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) across the UAE. Both parties will help UAE authorities acquire the necessary skills and tools to uplift and safeguard IPR. They will also co-develop and launch anti-piracy awareness campaigns and training programmes and work closely to identify and prosecute suspected software piracy activities.

“Collaboration is one of the five fundamental pillars we espouse in order to implement anti-piracy policies that are effective and sustainable. Strategic partners such as the UAE IPR Association are crucial in our pursuit of a piracy-free environment for the UAE and the entire region. The fight against piracy can be won if we stand strong and united, and so we thank the Association for sharing our vision and our commitment,” said Jawad Al Redha, Head of Government

Interface for IPR and SMS&P Business Development, Microsoft Gulf.

The BSA is adopting a multi-pronged approach to reduce piracy in the country, involving campaigns targeted at the government, awareness raising campaigns across the UAE to educate businesses about the risks associated with IPR violation, and other partnerships with concerned parties to collaborate in the fight against piracy.

“We’ve just moved our Logistics, Operations & Service Centre to a bigger and technically advanced facilty in Al Quoz in Dubai. The increased space will be utilised for further upgrades of existing IT & automation to address the growth in both customer breadth and overall business in the UAE. This move is an important step in the company’s overall growth strategy. The much needed office floor space will be utilised to expand logistical operations and spruce up the service facility. This will ensure improved turnaround time and reduced waiting lines for customers.”

Nokia remains top of handset marketToday, InMobi, the world’s largest independent mobile ad network, released its Mobile Insights Report: Middle East Edition, Quarter Ending August 2011. This comprehensive report is part of a series to analyse quarterly data trends on InMobi’s network and it once again illustrates the continuing uptake of the Android operating system.

InMobi experienced a 26% growth in mobile ad impressions over the previous quarter, serving 4.7 billion mobile advertising impressions in the Middle East. It reports that smartphone growth rose by 34%, now accounting for more than two thirds of mobile ad impressions since Quarter Ending May 2011.

Nokia remains the most popular handset manufacturer with a 43% market share, despite only featuring once in the top five handsets, which is otherwise dominated by Apple’s products, whose share has risen to 33%.

The global rise in Android’s popularity now seems to be taking hold in the region, as the platform shows the most growth over the quarter (+2.8 share points to 9.0% share), although it still has a long way to go before it catches up with Symbian (up 0.6 points to 36.3% share) and iOS (up 0.2 to 32.7%).

Rob Jonas, VP & MD Europe and Middle East, InMobi, comments: “Nokia remains the most popular handset manufacturer in the Middle East, although Apple appears to be gaining ground fast - it’ll be interesting to see how the market share shifts following the launch of Apple’s latest handset. We’re also seeing a rise in Android’s popularity which, while not on the same scale as we’re seeing globally, could signify the beginning of a similar rapid adoption of the platform in the Middle East.”
