Laura Bennetts of Goodland and Bradley Newson of Olathe were married in a single ring ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Goodland with the grandfather of the groom, Wayne Newson, officiating.

The theme of the wedding was a beach theme representing the couple’s first home and their favor-ite place to be.

The bride was given in marriage by William Bennetts, her brother. Her dress was an ivory flower one-strap sweetheart dress. She carried a bouquet of wild flowers and blue and green orchids made by the mother of the groom. The groom wore his U.S. Marine Corp uniform.

Her bridemaids wore different dresses of horizon and Malibu blues with an accent of kelly green. The matron of honor was Lisa Bennetts, the sister of the bride and the bridesmaids were Johanna Bennetts, sister-in-law of the bride, Kelsey Bernath, cousin of the bride, Candace Alatassi, Sherry Alatassi, Holly Beckman and Karlee Mc-Claren, cousin of the bride. The at-tendants were Shanae Calkins, Kate Hambleton, Becky Hoover, cousin of the bride, Melissa Murray and Gina Fischer, cousin of the bride. The flower girls were Audrey Mahar and Xaviera Lindsley, cousins of the bride.

The best man was Logan News-on, brother of the groom and the groomsmen were Jordan Winemi-ller; Nathan Swisher of Topeka; William Bennetts of Goodland, brother of the bride; and Russell McClarren of Wauseon, Ohio, cousin of the bride. They wore black tuxes, ivory shirts and horizon and Malibu blues for vests. The ring bearers were Mark and Chase Ben-

netts, nephews of the bride.The ushers were Matt Morton;

Russell Owens; Nathan McClar-ren, cousin of the bride; and Phillip Lane, cousin of the groom. The candle lighters were Kyler Hoover and Caden Cunningham, cousins of the bride.

There was a dinner and dance at the Veterans of Foreign Wars after the ceremony.

Kiane Krantz, aunt of the bride, made the cake Janell Cunningham, aunt of the bride were the servers. Parmesan chicken, pork loin with apricot chutney, seasoned green beans, salad and red potatoes were served for the dinner by W and W Catering for food.

The parents of the bride are Iris and Joe Scheopner of Goodland and the late Kenneth Bennetts. Her grandparents are Martha Bennetts of Wauseon, Ohio and the late Mark Bennetts and the late Walter, Pugh, Aileen and Basil James of Goodland.

The parents of the groom are Cindy and Rick Newson of Olathe and his grandparents are Wayne and Shirley Newson of Topeka and Franklin and Barbara Lane of Olathe.

The bride has a Bachelor of Criminal Justice from Washburn University of Topeka and the groom studied criminal justice at Wash-burn University and currently is in the infantry of the U.S. Marine Corps stationed at Camp Pendleton in California.

The couple returned to California for the groom to check back in at work Monday. They plan to to hon-eymoon the week before Christmas on a cruise to Jamaica.

They will live in Oceanside, Calif.

The Sunday, March 4, monthly meeting of the Ruleton Eager Bea-vers was called to order with 19 members, three leaders and six guests or parents answering roll call by naming your favorite thing that is green. There was one birthday acknowledged.

The club voted to wave flags on Sunday, May 20, for the Run for the Wall event. The club model meeting is at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 5. Club members need to arrive at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 9, to set up for 4-H Days and Talent Night. the garage sale fund raiser is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, with set up the day before.

It was announced that Cody Hooker received a state merit award for his reporter project.

Annika Linin played “Waltz” on the piano for music appreciation. Jade Artzer gave a demonstration on “How to make cherry limeade.” Caleb Dechant gave a project talk on “Ten things I need for the dog show.” Josie Hill led the group in playing “Simon Says.”

The meeting was adjourned by saying the Club Motto. Our next meeting will be on Sunday, April 1. Refreshments were provided by the Keim and Eslinger families.

Public televisionprepares for auction

BUNKER HILL - Smoky Hills Public Television’s longest run-ning and largest fundraiser – the Signature Auction – is scheduled for live broadcast from 6 to 9 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Saturday and Sunday, April 21 and 22.

The 100 art pieces have been donated from artists across the state and feature fine art including paint-ings, photography, jewelry, sculp-tures and more. These art pieces are now available for viewing on the station’s website, www.smoky-hillstv.org.

“We are very grateful for the artists who donated their works of art to Smoky Hills. Each year we are in awe of the artist talent and impressed by the variety of pieces that we receive,” said SHPTV Special Events Coordinator, Tricia Flax. “The Signature Auction is

Smoky Hills Public Television’s most popular fundraising event. I encourage everyone to participate and help make the 2012 Signature Auction a success.”

Viewers can vote for their favorite piece of art and the artist will receive the “People’s Choice Award.” Votes can be submitted by email to auc-tion@shptv.org or by mail to Box 9, Bunker Hill KS, 67626.
