ndia is progressing, and so are the crime rates with the rise of rape cases. Today the

metros have problems; a rising population certainly does not help the cause. Of course, smaller towns and rural area do not lag behind, as the administration tries to curb the menace of rising crime rates. The National Crime Record Bureau records a total of 23,582 cases reported in 2012.

Every other day we read or hear about rape cases in various parts of the country through different media. But it only affects the nation if it is too brutal. This follows the public rage in form of protests, dharnas (strikes) and demand for action. The politicians and chief administrators starts condemning the act. Most people remember it for a while and then have a ‘Chalta hai’ (what can I really do about it) attitude. Most people are back to their routines, as it does not personally affect them – until the next incident happens. Last month’s rape of a innocent 5-year old has left the nation shaken again.

Why have we adopted the ‘Chalta Hai’ attitude? Do we have any responsibility toward this crime statics? Last week our Pastor quoted a Bible verse

from Ecclesiastes 8:11, “When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people’s hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong.” (NIV) I was surprised to read this verse. But it is true, the criminals in India never get punished immediately. The court cases prolong for years and they die without even going to jail.

The main reason for rapes is not just weak laws, but a lack of moral education, and increasing materialistic culture and attitude which treats women as pleasure giving objects. Nudity on TV, pornographic internet sites which are even available on mobile phones and movies brings out an insatiable sexual desire that looks for immediate gratification and mental dissatisfaction, resulting in these sexual assaults.

We have the responsibility to make a difference as Christians. We need to humble ourselves and pray for a change in our nation. As it is said in 2 Chronicles 7:14 “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (NIV) Therefore, let us all “Pray until something happens.”

or three years the idea formed and grew in the mind of Aneesh Daniel,

transforming into a vision. For nine years the foundational elements of the vision have been nurtured, developed and refined through research, correspondence, effort and personal cost. For perhaps years to come, but hopefully not many, the vision will be tested and finally delivered for people to enjoy experience and engage with.

Aneesh Daniel

A Journey to the“CHRISTIAN

OSCARS”

It is that goal to which Aneesh Daniel of India and Andrew Matthews of Australia have been working since their partnership formed by a chance meeting thirteen years ago. And it is that goal which took their project in its infant form to San Antonio, Texas, and the film awards.

The story of this part of the journey is a classic one of God’s timing and intervention. The San Antonio Independent Christian Film

F

of which is a personal tale about a man who uncovers truths that challenge his previously held beliefs.”

Andrew Matthews, the principal script writer, expands, “You know, we all have misconceptions and prejudices about some things – we can’t know everything. The question is whether, when faced with facts and revealed truths, will we change or adapt those beliefs, or will we cling to them, refusing to be changed. That’s what this story is about.”

The team does not, however, deny their Christian perspective. While respecting other religious views and beliefs, they allow that as followers of Lord Jesus Christ, this perspective must necessarily influence the story. It is, after all, a story which features characters who are Christians in a positive light.

Indeed, of all the religious perspectives, Christianity arguably offers the best reason to forgive. The forgiveness for sin won by Jesus on the cross enables His followers to forgive in circumstances where forgiveness defies mere human logic and emotion.

Aneesh began this journey with ten years in Bollywood, working on feature films for the likes of Mira Nair and Shyam Benegal. Since then he has become an award winning film maker in his own right. He has produced eleven Television dramas in this time, and currently airing on a national network in India is the 26 episode serial, Adventures in Odyssey, adapted from the famous radio series initially produced by Focus on the Family.

Furthermore Aneesh points out; this is not merely a story for India, a contributing factor no doubt in the honour bestowed on the project as winner at SAICFF.

55Talents Magazine May 2013

Festival (SAICFF) dubbed as the “Christian Oscars” recognises the need to encourage excellence in the planning stages of as complex a project as a feature film. Consequently an award is offered to the Best Treatment – a three page document outlining the story and business plan for the proposed film.

They entered the competition in 2012, and having not heard anything from the organisers, they assumed the worst. As it turned out, however, by the tyranny of distance no doubt, they had missed the deadline and had been entered, unbeknownst to them, in the 2013 competition. It was therefore with some surprise that they discovered they were in the running for the award, and even more surprised when they were announced winners of the Best Treatment Award for 2013 awarded by the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival in Feb of this year. More than 1,800 participants from around the world were on hand in the Alamo City for the presentation. But the film makers are thrilled with God’s timing and encouragement. So what is this story idea that has earned a ‘green light’ from the judges at SAICFF?

Tentatively titled Fire and Forgiveness, the story is set against the background of religious tensions that have emerged in India over the past fifteen years. Aneesh was becoming increasingly distressed by the rising tensions between religious groups in some parts of India, including a neighbouring state to his own.

“I became captivated by the idea of a story, a feature film that would truly speak into this unpleasant situation” says Aneesh. The film makers are adamant, however, that the film is not “a disguised sermon”, or even a parable. Instead it is a story, “at the core

Page 6: 5Talents Magazine Issue 8 May 2013

The central character, a journalist, faces universal challenges in his quest for a better life; is a story that transcends the borders of country and culture, with a consequent appeal to the Western market as well. The planned filming is to be in English with a long term goal of dubbing the film into the heart languages of many people groups across India and South-East Asia.

It is hoped that this story will do more than entertain, that it will strengthen those who choose to stand in the face of persecution, that it will challenge those who resist the right to religious freedom, that it will encourage those who already enjoy that freedom to cherish, protect and fight for

it, and that it will inspire us all to live in accordance with the truths revealed to us in life.

And God has shown the way forward. Aneesh continues to find enough work to keep food on the table, refusing to compromise on inherent Christian ethics in the work he takes on. The self confessed ‘poet’ admits that he often sacrifices profits for the sake of excellence in his projects. If you find him on set he’ll be avidly constructing shots, an impulsive creative, wringing every last rupee out of the budget. God’s provision is part of what encourages and compels him to remain true to the vision.

was too much for Matthews to ignore. “To pray for direction, then to ignore it when it comes would be disobedience,” he says.

The latest encouragement, in the form of the Best Treatment Award from SAICFF is seen as confirmation from God to persist through the next challenging phase of seeking investment. The script will continue to be polished, but the weight of evidence indicates that this is a film that needs to be made. Aneesh is now in search of partners in order to launch the shooting of this film at locations in India. Interested partners can connect with Fire and Forgiveness at his personal mail [email protected]

On the morning 20th February 2011, Matthews says he was feeling discouraged and prayed again for guidance. His devotional that morning was relevant, relating to goals and vision, but could just have been coincidence. Then a prayer letter concerning hundreds of Christian families in India who had been displaced reminded him of the relevance of this film project. Finally a chance reading of a pastor’s message crystallised his thinking – again the message was about vision, this time specifically addressing how dreams and visions come to us, but with one important addition: a warning - to be careful to go and obey what He has said. The coincidence

And the drama began and even before I realized, it ended. I let my Media Director take a look at the pictures I clicked; he was kind enough and helped me understand how I could click better. And he told me,

“Don’t you ever back out before giving something a try” - my lesson number one to be a better photographer. And lesson number 2- “Don’t miss the moment, if it’s gone, you can never get it back.”

I now truly believe that this was God’s big master plan to use me, a total amateur to click for his Kingdom. Every time I held the camera, this was my prayer – Lord, help me hold this camera right and never to drop it down. Help me hit the shutter button at the right time. Holy Spirit, I don’t know what to click, please take charge of my

ecember of 2007, as New Life Assembly of God Church’s official photographer my first assignment was to capture

the Children’s Christmas Drama. All that I knew then was to set my frame and click along standing among the crowd. I was in a situation where I had to put my weakness, shyness and fear in a box and shut it for a while in order to click, or alternatively hand over the camera to someone and run away.

I tried running away and refused to click but I was reminded of the commitment I made as a volunteer to the media team, I thought about it and prayed, Lord help me to stand in this huge congregation and still be able to click without my hands trembling. Help me Lord get at least ten good shots, so that the Media Director wont get mad at me for trusting me with this job.

eyes and vision and capture God’s moment happening in His house of worship. I can’t sing and worship as I need to click, this is my act of worship. Please accept it. Amen!

This is how the Lord taught me during every event in His house and took me to new levels. Within no time, I knew the camera settings on my finger tips and managed shoots without being nervous and shy. Soon the church upgraded its photography equipment and I just saddled in with the handling of it. I was really encouraged and soon our Church released the 25th Anniversary Souvenir which had my pictures that I clicked in it.

I now realized that I was using my talent and gifting to document all that God was doing in Church and blessing his people.

By involving myself in the Church media department, I planned to do my B.A in Mass Communication. I saw how effective visual communication affected my life and this is what I wanted to do. I wanted God to use me to reach out to my generation though visual media. My community is my generation. My friends that I hang around in college, the wonderful people that end up making the pictures I click “picture perfect.” They ask me about my photography story and I tell them that it all started in the house of God. The Church where I first knelt down and asked my God to take hold of my life, is the same God who has given me a new career lead.

He has not forsaken me and has set me up on a higher ground. The work I do makes me depend on Him for creativity and when I submit to Him and trust in Him, like always, I end up getting beautiful pictures, that makes me super happy! The events, weddings and portraits I click always have my Father’s touch of creativity; because I ask Him to help me….and people do appreciate the pictures. I myself can see the difference, when I do it in my strength I get pressurized but when Jesus helps me, it’s a happy story.

I now stepped into wedding photography this was because people told me they liked the pictures and according to them I clicked much better than the professionals they invested into. And wedding pictures are what families hold dear to their heart. It’s once in a life time and I decided that I would want to help them have a beautiful memory of their wedding day. And this is my calling; help them preserve their love, ’cause after a few years the pictures I clicked will bring back a smile. This is what I do today – I freeze precious moments for people and all that they love! Today I cover weddings, birthdays, capture portraits, do baby photography and enjoy every moment of my dream believing that one day in Gods time I will be a renowned photographer for my Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

I have seen myself grow in these six years from the first time I held the camera till date and it was all the move of God in my life. I never dreamt of being a photographer but at one time I wanted to be a missionary. Apart from being passionate about photography, I love to minister to the less privileged children who are homeless and have made their homes on the streets of Hyderabad. I spend time clicking their pictures and play with them just to love them. One fine day they will know the God who loves the world as He makes me love them. Today I’m a freelance photographer depending on Jesus for my career but I look at my self as a missionary photographer who ministers to kids of my city streets.

Photography was a tiny dot in my life six years ago but now it’s becoming a huge picture in the hands of Jesus, pixel by pixel, every year. This talent which He put in my life is helping me reach out to the world outside my church and I am enjoying it every bit. Jesus has blessed me to be a blessing and that is what I will choose to be.

he Lord is positioning His people into places of influence and anointing them for service in the sphere of their own

influence. This is sometimes in contrast to traditionally- held views of the role of believers as well as the tasks for which the Lord releases His anointing upon His people.

This shift for purposes of taking the victory of the Lord beyond the usual “fields of engagement”, i.e. within the church context, is vividly pictured in Judges 4 and 5. The prophetic ministry and leadership role of Judge Deborah has prevailed for twenty years in the face of severe oppression and domination of the enemy. The anointing functioned on behalf of domestic needs among God’s people. However, it is not until the surprise prophetic announcement in Judges 4:6 that the voice of the anointing addresses the presence of the enemy and the Lord’s intended triumph.

The stage is set for great transition. Deborah and Barak come to the mutual understanding that they will commit to partnership and thus they break the norm for victory to be attained by a single hero. (It’s important to note that this is not a decision of weakness! Barak is named in the Hebrews 11 line up of faith!) Everything is now in place for not only Barak to be involved with the anointing in a role of military victory, but also opens the way for Jael. The story of Jael is well-known. She has the famed enemy, Sisera, arrive to her “tent door”. She comforts him with a refreshing drink. Then, she raises her hammer

and drives the tent peg through the unsuspecting head of the sleeping enemy. This is not “conventional” warfare! She represents the new and the now plan of God to take the battle outside of the four walls of the church and to use her well-honed skills to defeat the enemy in the sphere of her own influence. She was not a novice at the swing of the hammer. Likely, every time that tent had moved through the years, she had been the one to raise it and drive the tent pegs to secure it. Now, that same well-honed skill is activated for the purposes of defeating the enemy and thus advancing the prospering of the people of the God both financially and militarily. The “leadership secret” awaits our discovery in the meaning of Jael’s name. Granted, it is quite a combination of seemingly unrelated diverse meanings. We’re comfortable and blessed when we realize that firstly “Jael” means valued! That’s exactly how the Lord is assessing the role and activity of His people in the marketplace today. The second meaning is more difficult to appreciate. It means “wild goat”! However, before dismissing this as almost an insult, please note that the original intention of the Hebrew word is all about climbing. Her hammer is activated and her feet are perfectly formed to ascend.

The Lord values you and He has outfitted you (even anointed you!) to climb the very “surfaces” of the mountains of society that have previously repelled believers. You won’t be pushed back! He’s activating your skills and outfitting your feet . He has placed you in the specific sphere of your own influence. You are anointed to be sure-footed and to climb!

ust last week, Global Advance welcomed home a team from a week of ministry in the west African nation of Ghana. The team

led by Global Advance’s own Jason Holland, was the beginning of a long term process of missions mobilization within this key African nation. Already, Global Advance had invested significant time and resources in Ghana through the Marketplace Missions. The transformative process that is taking place due to the training of marketplace leaders and entrepreneurs has been catalytic to encouraging holistic transformation in many areas of the body of Christ within Ghana.

Pastor Alfred of House of Faith Ministries as well as Pastor Ernest have been instrumental in opening doors of opportunity. Whilst continuing the development of business leaders through annual trips and ongoing projects, House of Faith Ministries specifically requested Global Advance to come alongside their vision for mobilizing leaders for missions, training pastors for church planting and encouraging University students for their active participation in the Great Commission. Global Advance has gladly accepted their request - beginning with a Frontline Shepherds Conference that was held in late April in the central city of Kumasi.

Over 300 pastors, pastors wives and church leaders came together for three days of training, encouragement and prayer for the advance of the Good News. Each leader came to the meeting with expectations that only the Lord could meet. Through clear surveys of the audience, we found that about 40% of the leaders attending had lost their passion

Mission Minute - Frontline Pastors, Ghana

and zeal for ministry. They essentially were at the place of ‘burn-out.’ By God’s grace and through a time of prayer and encouragement, these leaders committed to stay the course knowing that they were not alone and that God cared intimately for each one of them. Additionally, those attending were challenged to recommit to the original call of God and to take their ministry to a new level of growth. Specifically, we challenged them to plant at least one new church within the next 12 months. Over 60 leaders stood in response to this bold challenge, knowing the great obstacles they face in the very near future. Our last call of action was for those whom God was calling to serve in cross-cultural missions. With Ghana being surrounded by nations that are predominately Muslim, the harvest is ripe for harvest. Ghanians historically have only served their own people through evangelism - but we are believing that God will burden the hearts of these Ghanian leaders for all who are lost, especially those in closest proximity.

Global Advance is in continual discussion with our partners in Ghana. We are already planning the locations of future training events and the mobilization of church planters for evangelism in unreached areas. Thank you for your continued support and prayer for those who are serving on the front lines of the Gospel’s advance.

Gratefully Commissioned,

Jonathan ShibleyGlobal Advance, President

here are 1,440 minutes in every day. Schedule 30 of them for physical activity! Regular exercise is a critical part of staying

healthy. People who are active live longer and feel better. Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight. It can delay or prevent diabetes, some cancers and heart problems.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV) Regular physical activity helps improve your overall health and fitness, and reduces your risk for many chronic diseases.

You don’t have to be a star athlete to get fit. The good news about fitness is that it’s never too late. No matter what your age, you can begin gradually improving your health and well being by developing a fitness plan. You also don’t have to become a star athlete with the body of an Olympic contender to achieve your fitness goals.

Fitness is for regular all people who want to prevent disease and maintain a healthy weight. Keep it fun, flexible and varied, what you do need from your fitness plan is flexibility, so that you can achieve your goals and have fun meaning that you enjoy your workout whether it’s swimming in the community

pool or walking regularly with a neighbor.

You’ll also want to allow for variety in your routine because everyone can become bored doing the same activity, day in and day out. Varying your activities or enlisting a friend or family member to participate in your plan can help you stick with it. Today many people now are becoming more aware of the benefits of healthy eating and physical fitness.Apostle Paul knew about the vital link between our physical and spiritual needs. “Your body” he wrote, is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you. The spirit has been willing when theflesh has been weak. Matt.26:41. Apostle Paul wrote “The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual” 1Cor15:46.Consequently we need to take care of our bodies for its own sake as well as for the important effect our physical condition can have on our spiritual well-being. God is concerned about both body and spirit. Regardless of our fitness level, we are indeed “fearfully and wonderfully made” Ps 139:14 Lets now begin to think for ourselves each day. How can we care for our bodies more wisely?

Prayer: Author and giver of life, we thank you for your gift of life. Keep us strong in mind, body and spirit so that we may live to your praise and glory. Amen.

You can’t run from God!

Doctors Paul and Kim Jordan are struggling to find peace in their lives after the tragic loss of their baby’s life. Paul (C. Thomas How-ell from The Amazing Spider Man, ET) per-suades Kim to escape reality and flee to the exquisite islands of Southeast Asia. Paradise becomes a nightmare when he is kidnapped by human traffickers in need of a skilled doctor.

Faced with a fight for survival, Paul finds himself captive alongside the wealthy Malcolm Andrews (John Rhys-Davies from Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings). He quickly realizes there is no hope for his captors dying leader and is forced to examine his eternal fate. With life and death in the bal-ance, Malcolm challenges Paul to stop running from God. Will Paul realize that trust in God is his only hope for escape and reunion with his wife?
