Kelly tore his calf just as he was about to come back playing following hip sur- gery in November. It means he won’t be in- volved in any of Cork’s re- maining league games, in- cluding the play-offs, should the holders advance. Meanwhile, Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper has been named on the Kerry bench for tomor- row’s crunch league game against Cork in Tralee, 2pm. The star forward hasn’t been involved with the county because of Dr Croke’s club commitments, but the Gooch is set to play some part in a must-win game for the Kingdom. He’s in good company among the subs because regulars Paul Galvin and Bryan Sheehan are also listed. Tomás Ó Sé returns from suspension and Mark Griffin remains at full-back in place of the injured Aidan O’Mahony. More GAA P50, 51. CORK’S Claire Keohane helped Ireland win silverware yesterday at the prestigious Hong Kong 7s, The Inch footballer scored a try and a number of conversions in the Bowl final to see Ireland defeat an international select side 28-0 in the final amid temperatures of up to 30 degrees celsius. The win saw Jon Skurr’s side finish ninth overall, having lost to South Africa (14-19) and France (7-19) in the pool stages. A win over the hosts however (33-5) saw them reach the Bowl final. Cork intercounty footballer Ashling Hutchings from Fermoy — who misses today’s NFL clash against Mayo — also played her part in the one-day tournament, while UCC’s Alison Miller — originally from Portlaoise — was also among the try scorers. “It’s good to win some silverware but realistically we were disappointed not to win the opening game against South Africa because we led for most of the game,” Keohane said. “We played some good rugby so overall it wasn’t a bad start to the season,” she added More rugby P49. CORK City boss Tommy Dunne is confident Neal Horgan and Daryl Horgan will both be passed fit to play against Derry City at Turner’s Cross tomorrow (3.30pm), Full-back Neal has a sore knee while winger Daryl has a hamstring worry but trained with the first team squad this morning. City are looking to continue their good start to the season but the Candystripes are the best team they have come up against as yet. The visitors have had a decent start too, beginning with a narrow defeat to league champions, Sligo Rovers before a stunning 6-0 win away to UCD. “It’s a big game between two big clubs. Derry have a strong group and have shown that already. Sligo narrowly beat them, they beat UCD handsomely and had a draw against Drogheda, where by all accounts, Gabriel Sava played a great game for Drogheda,” Dunne said. “They will be one of the teams that will be earmarked as potential title contenders. But I think, at home, we can give anybody a match with the crowd behind us.” Ireland make point to ease pressure on boss SOCCER By ANDY HAMPSON THE Republic of Ireland pro- duced an uplifting performance to keep their World Cup dream alive with a creditable goalless draw in Sweden last night.
