MISSION STATEMENTFounded in 1881, the Staten Island Museum, New York City’s only general interest

museum, engages visitors with interdisciplinary exhibitions and educational programs that explore the dynamic connections between natural science, art and history based on its diverse collections. �e Museum is dedicated to making its current and future

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO

The Staten Island Museum had an exceptional Fiscal Year 2010 – 2011, including the groundbreaking for our $25 million expansion to Building A at Snug Harbor, with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg presiding at the ceremony:

• In advance of our expansion, we created a new logo, tagline, and vision statement.

• The Museum is one of 15 cultural entities from NYC participating in the Advanced Executive Roundtable, a Bloomberg Philanthropies sponsored initiative to mentor organizations that are experiencing major growth.

• We launched a new community exhibition series, Portraits in Leadership, with African-American Entrepreneurs on Staten Island in February 2011.

• We presented two local artists: Andrea Phillips: Pieces of Spirit and Helen Levin & Golan Levin - Gesture: In Paint and Software.

• We created a new education program, the Museum Atelier, in collaboration with the Art Lab, giving students first hand exposure to Museum art collections.

• Over 250 participants attended our Fresh Kills birding tours and mid-week walks. The History Archives assisted over 100 people with genealogy inquiries.

• We are contributing research and loaning objects to the Museum of the City of New York (From Farm to City: Staten Island 1661-2012); the Wellcome Collec-tion, London, England (Dirt); and the Hudson River Museum (Elihu Vedder: Voyage On the Nile).

Join us in celebrating our 130th year of continuous operations. We hope to see you soon at the Museum in St. George and the Staten Island History Center in Building H at Snug Harbor, where you can view the construction progress in person.
