The TransInvest Group

our management consists of people of various nation-alities, traditions and cultural backgrounds. this diver-sity has enabled us to develop into a multi-national and multi-cultural conglomerate.

today the transinvest Group is an internationally operating group of approx. 130 independent com-panies under the umbrella of a joint holding. the his-torically grown focus of the Group‘s activities lies on the transportation and logistics sector, with a special emphasis on business in europe and asia. However, the functional competencies also comprise financial services, investments, real estate and consulting.

We are convinced that steady growth can only be gen-erated through diversification and a modern business

approach. it is our continual aim to explore and develop new business opportunities.

We have an understanding of different cultures and we are open in our acceptance of different values. our dia-logue of cultures is not only beneficial for our business, but also offers a positive social contribution.

Werner Albert, Chairman TransInvestWerner albert is at the helm of the Group´s board of Directors with its interna-tionally widespread companies. the head office of the transinvest Group is in st. Gallen, switzerland. early on, Werner albert, who had learned the transpor-tation and logistics business from the ground up, focused on the “transport & logistics” sectors of the transinvest Group.

albert’s other focus lies on business going east - to eastern europe, to russia, to Central asia and the far east.

in this context, Werner albert is especially committed to developing the trans-continental land bridge between northern and Western europe and the iran on the one hand, and the Pacific on the other. in his function as President of the association of european trans-siberia forwarders and operators Geto and as vice-Chairman of the international Coordinating Council on transsiberian transportation CCtt – functions that he has been holding for years now –, Werner albert has been very successful in promoting a better use of the trans-siberian rail corridor.

Yousef Sherkati, CEO TransInvestfor Yousef sherkati, too, transportation and logistics are a profession and a vocation at the same time. sherkati began his career in 1964 by working for the family company in tehran, Ptb Perse international forwarding Co. in 1970, sherkati came to europe and expanded his international transportation know-how while working for militzer & münch, Ptb’s co-operation partner. in the late 1970s, his professional development led him to a new function: He became the President of the Ptb Group.

the 1980s saw a closing of ranks between Ptb and militzer & münch, and in 1988, sherkati followed the call of becoming managing Director of m&m aG in st. Gallen, switzerland. Within a very short period of time, he set up a group of companies, which today is active in almost every country in eastern europe, Central asia, the far east, as well as countries of the maghreb re-gion. in 2001, the various companies were united under the umbrella of the transinvest Holding, with Yousef sherkati as Ceo and member of the board of Directors.

Dear Reader

in 1961, the new transport route by truck from europe to iran which militzer & münch had already pio-neered the previous year, proved to be a viable alternative to mari-time and rail shipping. in June of 1961, i accompanied the 50th truck departing from munich and bound for tehran. at that time, the incoming shipments were transferred at the iranian bor-der onto local trucks.

it became evident that a reliable partner was needed in iran to fa-cilitate customs procedures and local transportation.

mr. Wolfgang Koch of militzer & münch was fortunate in gaining the support of the cooperation of mr. seyed mehdi Kahnamoui. as a result, Perse transport bar Co. Ltd. was established. Due to the increasing scope of activities, specialised subsidiaries were ad-ditionally created, which altogeth-er comprise what is today known as Ptb Group.

from the beginning managers of new subsidiaries received share-holdings and thus contributed to the rapid expansion and founding success of the company.

the attribute „architects of trans-port“, which was coined by fiata in the 1960’s, did and does still apply to the Ptb Group; this is evident from several milestones in the company’s history and present-day activities.

it is a real pleasure to see the on-going drive for innovation within the Group. the once dominant busi-ness activities of 30 and 40 years ago constitute only a fraction of the present-day turnover. since then, new logistical fields have been con-sistently sought, culminating in the Ptb Group becoming a recognized leader in organizing transit ship-ments, airline representation and terminal operations in particular.

introducing a new concept, the Ptb Group is now sharing its diverse experience by providing manage-ment capacities and proven logisti-cal techniques to other entities and partners in the logistics sector.

the iranian government´s emphasis on developing the transport infra-structure and its continuing effort to connect all neighbouring countries to the iranian railway network offers an unprecedented opportunity for further development.

it is my belief that the Ptb Group, its managers and its staff, both mo-tivated and creative, have the pros-pect of a bright future in a constantly changing world by keeping up with the brisk pace of innovation.

With warmest regards

Hans-Joachim seifert

Hans-Joachim SeifertHans-Joachim seifert has been connected with militzer & münch since 1953, when he began wor-king with m&m regensburg, Ger-many. in the early sixties, after stages in new York (1959) and Hamburg (1960), Hans-Joachim seifert and his wife moved to tehr-an as m&m Delegate. Later on he joined Ptb.

in the 1960s and 1970s, he con-tributed significantly to transports to iran via the trans-siberian route. initially, such transports were con-ventional, but they were soon suc-ceeded by container traffic.

in 1980 mr. seifert and his family returned to europe. in the following years he founded m&m militzer & münch aG (1980), transinvest Hol-ding aG (1984) as well as m&m militzer & münch international Hol-ding aG (1985) in switzerland, which set the tone for the future.

means Iran

iran belongs to the key countries along the historical silk road, which is over 2000 years old and used to link the mediterranean area with eastern asia. one of the main routes came from what is today called turkmenistan and crossed over the iranian border at sarakhs. the way led through rey, a south-ern suburb of the modern metropo-lis, tehran, and a transit hub of the trading route at the time.

to this day, iran plays a leading role as a transit country between europe and asia. for example, the truck route from Central europe to turkmenistan and Uzbekistan runs through turkey and via the iranian customs checkpoints of bazargan, badjgiran and sarakhs. by far the most important trading harbors are bandar abbas and bandar imam Khomeini on the Persian Gulf and bandar anzali on the Caspian sea. almost half of the Uzbek cotton exports, amongst others, are proc-essed through bandar abbas.

During the past years, there has been a revival of the comprehen-sive road network between europe and asia. important transportation projects have been launched along the five main corridors, and many others are to follow. this requires the further development of the in-frastructure as well as experienced and reliable experts in transport lo-gistics.

the Ptb Group is one of them. thanks to its creative ideas and courageous entrepreneurship, Ptb has made a big difference in the transportation market during its 50-year old history, and will continue to do so in the future.
