Tetsworth lies on an ancient road that leads from London, over the Chiltern Hills towards the ‘crossroads of England’ at Oxford. Although not recorded in the Domesday Book, historians are confident there was settlement of some kind in the area at that time.

It is believed the name of the village was derived from a person’s name, ‘Taetel’ and the common Anglo-Saxon place name ending ‘worth’ meaning enclosure.

It’s just a short walk into the charming village centre, Tetsworth has a wide range of amenities including a traditional green, public house, primary school and a sports and social club. ‘The Old Red Lion’ is a popular pub and the village shop is located opposite the green, where cricket and football are played regularly. ‘The Swan Inn’, in the heart of the village, dates back to 1482, and is now an antiques centre and restaurant.

Nearby Waddesdon Manor was built in the 1870s to display Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild’s vast collection of more than 15,000 objects and works of art.
