4th Sunday of Lent Laetare Sunday

March 26, 2017

The Mission of Holy Family Catholic Parish is to be a welcoming faith community grounded in Gospel values and

dedicated to making God known to our members and all who enter our doors. We foster positive relationships with

God and one another through active participation in the ministries of worship, education, celebration, and service to all.

WELCOME

New to Holy Family? Register by stopping in at the Parish Center or pick up a registration form in the vestibule.

REJOICE! Today is Laetare Sunday. That means you are halfway through the six weeks of Lent. This week is the Second Scrutiny for the Catechu-mens and Candidates as they continue their jour-ney toward full initiation into the Catholic Church. In the Gospel today Jesus took the blind man from darkness into light. As you add a candle to your Sacred Space think about how Jesus is removing the darkness from your life so that you may be a "light to the nations" and a "beacon of hope" to those around you. You have a lot to contemplate as you gaze upon your Sacred Space... humility as you get out of your comfort zone; conquering temptation; transforming your behavior and habits; being in God's family through living water.

We want to welcome you warmly to Holy Family!

Holy Family is a vibrant Catholic community with much to offer members of all ages. We focus on Catholic

education, community service, faith formation, and youth & young adult ministries. We encourage you to find a home with us to share your time, talent and treasure!

4th Week of Lent

ENCOUNTER COMMUNITY

We encounter Maria in

Mexico, where a community of hardworking women share joys, sorrows and fellowship while growing economic opportunity at a greenhouse. How have your communities helped you encounter Christ anew this Lent?

GROWING IN FAITH

Now it is time for Meal Sharing. After the Liturgy of the Word, we move to the table. As at a meal in our homes, we 1) set the table, 2) say grace and 3) share the food (we eat and drink). At Mass these ritual ac-tions are called 1) the Preparation of the Gifts, 2) the Eucha-ristic Prayer and 3) the Communion Rite.

PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS: The early Christians each brought some bread and wine from their homes to the church to be used for the Mass and to be given to the clergy and the poor. Today a similar offering for the parish and the poor is made with our monetary contributions, so a collection is taken up and a song is usually sung. This song should express our joy at what is about to take place in the Mass. Members of the parish bring our monetary gifts to the altar with the bread and wine to be used for the sacrifice.

The priest places the bread and wine on the altar (the cor-poral). He then mixes water with the wine—a gesture with spiritual significance, The priest or deacon says, “By the mys-tery of this water and wine, may we come to share in the divin-ity of Christ (wine), who humbled himself to share in our hu-manity (water).” We pray that just as the water and wine be-come one, that we also become one with Christ. Then the priest washes his hands. Finally, the priest invites us to pray that the sacrifice may be acceptable to God. We response “AMEN” to the Prayer over the offerings and stand to participate in the central prayer of the Mass

During these weeks, our goal is that these thoughts give you a deeper look at what we do as we gather at Mass so that each of us can enter more fully into the Mass each week. These thoughts are a walk through our Catholic Mass — the “Source and Summit” of our Catholic Faith!

Explaining our Catholic Mass

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER—this prayer brings us to the very center of the Mass and the heart of our faith. While the words may change a bit each week, the struc-ture is the same: 1) We call upon God to remember all the wonderful saving deeds of our history. 2) We recall

the central event in our history, Jesus Christ … the memorial he left us on the night before he died. We recall his passion, death and resurrection. 3) After gratefully calling to mind all the wonderful saving acts God has done for us in the past, we petition God to continue those deeds of Christ in the pre-sent. We pray that we may become one body, one spirit in Christ.

INVITATION: –the prayer begins with a dialogue between the leader and the assembly. First, the priest greets us with “The Lord Be with you.” He then asks if we are ready and willing to approach the table and to renew our baptismal commitment, offering ourselves to God. “Lift up your hearts.” We are invited to give thanks. To “give thanks translates the traditional Greek verb which no names the whole action: Eucharist.

PREFACE AND ACCLAMATION: The priest enters into the Preface, a prayer which prepares us to come before the face of God. As the wonders of God are told, the assembly cannot hold back their joy and sing aloud: “Wow! Wow! Wow! What a God we have!” … “Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory!”

Here Comes the Sun! Spring is here and with that comes the sunshine. When the sun is shining through the windows above the altar it can be very hard for our parishioners to see.

To combat this issue we would like to install motorized blinds. The cost is $5,000. If you would like to contribute towards the blinds, please pick up a white CHURCH BLINDS envelope in the vestibule. You can drop off your donation in the offertory baskets or at the Parish Center. Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated towards our new blinds. We are about half way to our goal. A Catholic Culture of Life Initiative Day 742-

“The ‘home’ represents the most precious human treasures, that of encounter, that of relations among people, different in age, culture and history, but who live together and togeth-er help one another to grow. For this reason, the ‘home’ is a crucial place in life, where life grows and can be fulfilled, because it is a place in which every person learns to receive

love and to give love.” Pope Francis

In today’s Gospel Jesus heals the physical blindness for which the man was not responsible. Then Jesus challenged some religious leaders to face their spiritual blindness for which they were responsible.
