From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time: “Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, it is not pompous.” (1 Corinthians 13:4). Do you get jealous? Do you focus more on the things that other people have than on the gifts that God has given to you? Are you pompous? Do you acquire more possessions to impress others? At times we are all guilty of these things. Pray for more humility. Pray to become less self-centered and more God-centered.

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19: The prophetic mission of Jeremiah covers a period from 627-587 BC. He had no desire to be a prophet, but reluctantly obeyed God, knowing full well the usual fate of prophets. Speaking in the name of God, he confronts the evil within the power structure of the nation. He prefigures yet another prophet, Jesus, and prophetic figures of all ages, and all believers who suffer because they try to do what is right.

1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13: There were several competing factions in the Corinthian community, and some members claimed to have greater gifts than others. This teaching on love proclaims the goal of the Christian life and serves as a challenge to those who would claim superiority. Paul tells us that the spectacular gifts are useless unless they are grounded in love. Without love, all else is lost. This love truly desires the best for the other and strives to make that a reality.

Luke 4:21-30: Jesus’ emphasis on the generosity of God to those outside the Jewish community comes as a shock to his hearers. He speaks of God turning aside from the needy within Israel and acting compassionately toward foreigners. Jesus’ hearers find this unbearable, and they seize him by force and attempt to harm him. But his role as the Anointed One of God extends beyond his preaching. God’s power protects him, and he is given further opportunity to spread his revolutionary message.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

Page 7: 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time January 31, 2016qac-ohio.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/4th-Sunday-in-Ordinary-Ti… · January 31, 2016 Non Territorial Parish ð ð ï ñ E Patterson

other Fridays of the season of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. The law of abstinence binds all Catholics 14 years and older. The law of fasting binds all Catholics from their 18th birthday until their 59th birthday (canons 97 & 1252). With regard to Good Friday, the teaching of the Second Vatican Council should be recalled. People should seek to do more rather than less. Fast and abstinence on the days prescribed should be considered a minimum response to the Lord’s call to penance and conversion.

RACE AND RELIGION: IS ISLAMOPHOBIA RACIST?: Town Hall Forum - “Racism is man’s greatest threat to man – the maximum of hatred for a minimum of reason” (Abraham Joshua Heschel, Rabbi, Jewish philosopher). Is our society racist towards Muslims? We have seen a rise in Islamophobia and anti-Muslim attacks. In this political landscape, these discussions are also promoting fear and racism: racism towards immigrants, Mexicans, Blacks and whomever becomes “the Other.” Please join us for this very important community conversation on what is Islam and what is Islamophobia, and the persistence of racism in our society. Thursday, Feb 4th, 6:00-7:30 PM, Kennedy Union, Rm 337, University of Dayton. “Muslims are the primary victims of ISIS. Muslims are the ones who want to do the most to defeat this ideology. It’s important that we don't do their propaganda for them, by giving them the legitimacy that they crave.” (Dalia Mogahed, American scholar and Muslim social activist).
