COURSE DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE:This full day activity for community pediatricians provides both active-learning, lecture-based sessions and workshops to cover best practice in primary care pediatrics. This activity helps community physicians stay up to date with evidence-based presentations in rapidly changing areas of pediatric practice so they can delivery best practice to their patients. See attached schedule for details of the CME activity.
INTENDED/TARGET AUDIENCE:General Pediatrics, Pediatrics
COURSE GOAL:To provide physicians and other providers caring for children with current evidence-based practice guidelines relevant to the field of general pediatrics, augmenting the skill set and knowledge base needed to care for patients in a primary care practice.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:Upon completion of this activity, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to:1. Explain the benefits of early childhood literacy interventions to the developing child.
2. Describe the new treatment recommendations for patients with IBD.
3. Identify two techniques you can use in your practice to overcome vaccine hesitancy.
4. Describe two common pediatric/adolescent gynecologic concerns and how to address them.
5. Explain how to evaluate a patient’s complaint of joint pain.
6. Describe the ways you can combat the opioid epidemic in clinical practice
7. Describe the signs, symptoms and treatment of pediatric eczema.
8. Summarize current Oklahoma Health Care Authority child health initiatives.
9. Describe how to identify children with problematic sexual behavior and how you can help them.

Dr. Jacobson is a professor of pediatrics at Mayo Clinic with appointments
in Community Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and Health Care Policy and Research. He works as a primary care pediatrician at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, teaching research methods and evidence-based medicine to faculty, pediatric residents and pediatric sub-specialty fellows there as the medical director for both the Employee and Community Health Immunization Program and the Southeast Minnesota Mayo Clinic Health System Immunization Program. He also conducts research to improve the uptake of vaccines.
