    PEDIATRICS

    COURSE DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE:This one-and-a-hal-day conerence ocuses on the pediatric

    population and is designed to provide physicians and primary care

    givers with an approach to working with and managing pediatric

    cardiology patients. The course goal is to provide physicians and

    primary care givers with the current patient recommendations,

    screening tests and practice guidelines needed or pediatric

    preventive cardiology assessment or all children and adolescents

    and provide care or the pediatric cardiology patient. This is a

    ast-paced course, with most speakers using an audience-response

    system during the presentations, which provide participants with

    immediate eedback o their knowledge and the opportunity to

    reinorce comprehension and retention o key learning objectives.

    The course combines best-practice strategies and education through

    case studies, panel discussion and lectures. A ull syllabus o

    educational materials will be provided as a resource or todays

    primary care oce practice.

    COURSE GOAL

    The course goal is to providephysicians with the currentpractice guidelines needed orpediatric preventive cardiologyassessment or all children andprovide care or the pediatriccardiology patient.

    GENERAL OBJECTIVESUpon completion o the conerence, participants should be able

    to improve physician and primary care practitioner competence,

    perormance and patient outcomes by being able to:

    1. Recognize the multiple actors to assess when considering a

    childs cardiovascular risk actor

    2. Explain screening procedures such as EKGs and ECHO

    3. Describe current cardiovascular interventional procedures

    4. Describe the current recommended screening exam or the

    pediatric athlete

    5. Describe current patient recommendations, screening tests and

    practice guidelines needed or a routine pediatric preventive

    cardiology assessment or all children and adolescents
