Readings for November 25

Reading 1: Daniel 7:13-14 Reading 2: Revelation 1:5-8

Gospel: John 18:33b-37

Financial Stewardship The readings today speak of the end of the world and the coming of the Kingdom. The bishops’ pastoral on

stewardship says clearly “that ‘life to come’ is in continuity with the present life through the human

goods, the worthy human purposes, which people foster now.” May our good stewardship cause us to be

numbered among the chosen on the last day!

Financial Stewardship for November 10 & 11: Building Fund $ 25,895.04 Offertory $ 19,558.89 Vredenburgh $ 1,230.00 Hurricane Sandy $ 2,842.50

Stations of the Cross is

offered on Tuesdays at 6pm in

the Church. Stations will last

30 minutes.

The Prince of Peace family would like to express our sympathy to Joe Miranda and his family on the

death of his brother, Sam Miranda and to Erin Boryczka and her family on the death of her mother,

Gail King. Our sympathy is also extended to Jo Ann Henderson and her family on the death of her aunt,

Josie Carruba. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Stewardship: Parishioners Answering God’s Call A couple, both parishioners, found themselves in a situation that touched more than one of the pillars of stewardship. Through professional channels they came into contact with a special needs young man who lost his only caregiver, his mother. Arrangements had not been made for his care after her death, so the couple stepped in to help. They not only assisted with getting this young man established in safe housing and care for his physical needs, but also befriended him to help with his emotional and spiritual needs. Through their love and care for him, they have truly exemplified the true meaning of being a Christian steward.

Help us! Submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected]. They may be edited for space consideration.

Are We Christian Stewards? Reflection on U.S. Bishop’s Pastoral Letter on Stewardship

By Mike Brown Among God’s gifts to us is the universe and all it contains. The Old Testament clearly reveals that God

created the world but entrusts it to us to preserve and protect. Ideally, we have a joyful appreciation for the

God-given beauty and wonder of nature and, as stewards, do what we can to assure that future generations share

in its bounty and likewise assume responsibility for its future.

Human life itself is God’s generous sharing of himself with us. We learn at a very young age that God

created all people in his image and consequently we must shield life from all threats and assaults, from conception

to natural death. Baptism compels us to enhance the gift of life and make it flourish.

God looks to us as partners to collaborate with him in the ongoing process of creation. The Second Vatican

Council affirmed our obligation to build up our world by our individual and collective efforts and thereby share, at

least in some small way, in developing the Kingdom of God.

Being good stewards should occupy a central place in our lives.

Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment (John 19:23-24)

Seamless Garment Values in Practice Archbishop Raymond Hunthausen reflects on Vatican II’s 50th anniversary

(National Catholic Reporter, October 11, 2012)

I have to acknowledge that much of the early excitement and energy the council ignited has cooled.

For that reason, I find myself returning to John XXIII and his great vision for a “new Pentecost” for the

church. We have made significant strides, but we – as Christians – still remain on the Lenten side of Easter

and Pentecost.

We need to keep praying the prayer John XXIII composed for the council, the prayer that I prayed

each day, along with my brother bishops during those years of grace and hope:
