MISSION STATEMENT We, the people of the Parish of the Holy Cross, are a multi-cultural parish of the young and elderly, married and single, healthy and broken. We welcome all to come together and give praise and thanks to God. Through the celebration of the Eucharist and the other sacraments and devotions of the Church, we reach out to others in mercy and compassion and seek to share the joy of the Gospel throughout our large community. Here, with the support, strength, and inspiration we receive from one another, we are nourished daily on our journey of faith.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE

Just as the apostles in today’s gospel were amazed at the power of Jesus so our children are amazed at our lack of fear of dark rooms or monsters in closets or under beds. As the apostles depended on Jesus, children depend on us to restore quiet to their lives. Getting out of bed at night to quiet a child’s fears is the stuff of holiness.

Stewards Have Faith “Then he asked them, ‘Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have

faith?’” – Mank 4:40

Most of us like to be in control. Loss of control makes us fearful. Try changing your perspective, let God be the pilot! There’s an old saying “do you want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans.” Stewards put their trust in God, He always has a better plan!

Administradores Tengan Fe

"Entonces él les preguntó:" ¿Por qué estás aterrorizada? ¿Aún no tienes fe '"- Marcos 4:40

From the Pastor…

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY Happy Father’s Day! As I mentioned many times in homilies and conversations with parishioners, a day does not go by without thinking about my Mom and Dad. This weekend, of course, as the country celebrates Father’s Day, my Dad is on my mind in a special way. My Dad and I had a wonderful relationship and being the single son I spent a lot of time with Dad. In many ways Dad became my best friend as Dad got older and I matured. Whether it was fishing, golfing, watching the Phillies and Eagles, laughing at a Seinfeld rerun or waiting for my Mom at a local mall, we spent countless hours together. Being a great Dad he was also an amazing Grandfather or Pop-Pop as he was lovingly known. I can still hear him laughing and singing and stirring up my nieces and nephews with a made up song or game. We learn from our parents, thus if I learned humility and gentleness from my Mom then my Dad taught me and my siblings to strive for excellence. My Mom would always say her children got their brains from my Dad. My Dad was smart, yet did not graduate from high school (he later earned his GED) as he dropped out of school to enter the Army in the closing years of the World War II. He desired to go to college after the war, but ended up using his GI Bill money to support his poor parents to pay off a mortgage. Dad became a Philadelphia Police Officer, married Mom and started a family. He instilled in my brothers and sister that drive for education and service. It is not surprising that all five (5) of us have graduate degrees. Dad believed in us and instilled in us the confidence that we could do whatever we set our minds on. He was so proud when a child or grandchild reached a goal. I remember my Mom saying how she admired that Dad never said a bad word about anyone. That is true, as Dad would always find the best in a person, especially if they were down. Mom and Dad taught us our faith by word and example. Our Catholic faith and heritage was in the air we breathed at home. Dad, Happy Father’s Day. Thank you for all you did for me and the family. I miss you and Mom every day. I wish a Happy Father’s Day to all the Fathers and Grandfathers in our parish community. May the love and mercy and strength of Our Lord be with you always. God Bless you and your Families, Fr. Vince

Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, P. Vince

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks

on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
