Incharge Dharam Parchar Committee Swaran Singh and his associate Taranjeet Singh in a joint handout said that Punjabi a contemporary language of Hindi and Urdu in the State was being taught in the Schools accordingly till eighties but due to lack of interest on the part of successive gov- ernments remained neg- lected by keeping the sanc- tioned posts of Punjabi teachers as vacant. The Sikh community had so far been peacefully pursuing its demand for giving due place to the Punjabi and have been submitting repeated resolutions besides meeting the Ministers and departmen- tal officers of the Education, but no action was taken to fill up the vacant posts of Punjabi teachers, they said. The community members resented the order issued under its letter dated 19th June, 2017 for teaching Kashmiri, Dogri and Bodhi as compulsory 6th subject to commence from next session of 2018-19 upto 9th class and from 2019- 2020 for 10th class. They demanded that all arrangements should be made to promote Punjabi on similar priority from the current session itself so that the Sikh Community does not find itself ignored. Irrigation officer among 3 arrested with poppy straw STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: Continuing its mass out- reach programme for service delivery under J and K Public Service Guarantee Act and for redressing pub- lic grievances on issues related to health, district administration Rajouri has notified 25 medical camps across the district, commencing from 6th July. The camps will also promote health and hygiene in rural areas. The camps to be held under the guid- ance and supervision of District Development Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary will be organ- ised and attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner (Rev), Sub-Divisional Magistrates beside senior officers of Health and Family Welfare Department. Block Medical Officers will organise all health related check- ups and certification. Besides redressing public grievances on issues related to health, complaints about functioning of field health insti- tutions and encroachment of hospital land, services under J and K Public Service Guarantee Act including Medical Fitness Certificates, Old Age, Widow Certificate will be also provided in these camps. Joint teams of Health and Social Welfare Departments will also verify pension cases and process new application forms for pension. The Deputy Chief Minister said this, while addressing people at a function organised at Billawar to highlight the Central as well as State Governments' welfare schemes. The Deputy Chief Minister said that to bring governance at the doorsteps of people living in remote areas, post of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) has been sanc- tioned for Billawar and Basohli as well which can be seen as first step towards creating separate districts for Billawar and Basohli. Underscoring the importance of tourism sector in overall development of an area, Dy CM said that two tourism development authorities have been cre- ated for catering to the requirements of far flung areas of Kathua district viz. "These development authorities would create state of the art tourist infra so that tourist footfall may get a further fillip", he maintained. Emphasising on various devel- opment works being done by the present dispensation during the past two and a half year in Billawar, Dr Singh said that no stone has been left unturned to miti- gate problems of the people. He further said that Rs 21 crore have been expend- ed on Hospital, Rs 102 crore on 22 PMGSY roads, Rs 6.5 crore on Dayalachak-Challan road, Rs 35 lakh on critical ambulance, Rs 46 crore on Juthana bridge, Rs 98 lakh on Bus and Matador Stand while Rs 4 crore have been spent by Billawar Municipality to provide better facilities to the populace of Billawar. Dy.CM stated that an indoor stadium for Billawar is in pipeline and 50% of his CDF has been spent on consolidat- ing PHE infra so that people living in far flung areas can have access to potable drinking water. He added that expansion of existing roads will also be taken up besides revamping PDD, PHE, Irrigation, Education and Health sector is the priority of the present gov- ernment.
