1. The trail begins at an olive grove, next to a farm
house, around km
217 of the N-322 road. It runs along alm
ost entirely along the old railroad system
, using many of
the infrastructure that was built for the train. The first
of these infrastructures that the trail encounters is the viaduct over the G
uadalaviar river, which is also the
starting point of an almost continuous ascent until the
end of this route. Soon the traveller will m
eet the first of m
any passages under paths and roads, just before a stretch shared w
ith vehicles. Not too further on, the
trail reaches a rest area located at the top of one of tho-se passages over the railroad platform
.
2. The itinerary is not very tough, alm
ost following a straight
route, with a m
ain landscape consisting of olive groves. The trail passes over brooks or under tunnels, leaving a rest area on the side w
hich takes advantage of the sha-de provided by a great pine tree, until it reaches another stretch that is shared.
3. Right after crossing a bridge over a road, travellers m
ust be especially cautious, because the trail leaves the dirt path to continue, on the right, on a road that allow
s crossing the N
-322 road. Once on the other side, the
trail leaves the road and makes a detour on the left that
meets the dirt road again and w
hich reaches the Puente de G
énave station.
4.
The trail continues taking a long but smooth curve to
the left in order to come closer to the tow
n of Bonache,
plunging into the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las
Villas Natural Park, and changing the landscape w
hen traversing a pine grove for a couple of kilom
etres. This curve changes direction suddenly as it passes by a dam
in the Viña brook and the pine grove is abandoned soon after the trail com
es to a new rest area.
5. A
fter crossing the street, the trail continues alongsi-de the train platform
among greenhouses, houses and
small gardens, reaching a bike lane that overlaps w
ith the rural trail, leading to the w
ay of Granadillos. From
here, the view
s include the coast of Grajuela, the point
of Guapo on the background and the m
arina, together w
ith the traditional fishing weirs.
6. After a straight low
-gradient but continuous ascent, the trail reaches the G
énave station. From here, you
can access the town of G
énave, where the Tercia tow
er (declared Site of C
ultural Interest) or the church of the Inm
aculada Concepción. Further on, given that the
views appear once you cross a couple of brooks and
pass by a long straight, you can observe, on the left side of the trail and over a hillock, the La Laguna tow
er, w
hich is part of the town of G
énave, and also declared Site of C
ultural Interest.
7. A
fter passing under a path that leaves the ruins of a farm
house on one side, the trail plunges into an oak pasture, w
hich means the end of the olive grove as the
omnipresent landscape, w
hich will be replaced near
the trail by broom fields w
here some oaks are splashed
on the first stretch, and then by croplands once the trail reaches the V
illarrodrigo station.
8. Next to a rest area, the detour tow
ards the town of
Villarrodrigo (som
ehow far from
the trail) is the last place w
here you can access easily this nature trail, via a secondary road connecting the N
-322 road with the
aforementioned tow
n. The route still continues among
croplands until it reaches the provincial limit, w
here it is connected w
ith the Sierra de Alcaraz N
ature Trail.
