Small-diameter Colored PANDA Fiber Bendable to 5 mm Radius

As communication traffic volume grows steadily, optical transmitter receivers (TRs) are being reduced in size and increased in integration scale in parallel with increasing transmission speed. Fujikura's PANDA fiber*1 has a bend radius of 7.5 mm, smaller than that of 15 mm, which is common for similar products. This product has already been added to our product lineup as a wiring material used inside a small device and highly regarded. In response to customer demands for a wire that allows more compact storage, we have released a small-diameter colored PANDA fiber, which can be bent to a 5 mm radius. This product with a clad diameter*2 as thin as 80 μm has improved mechanical reliability. The product also features an optimized mode field diameter, taking connection to a fine optical waveguide into consideration. In addition, the jacket layer is colored for excellent visibility. We will further work on the development of products that contribute to society using our special fiber technology.

*1 PANDA(Polarization-maintaining AND Absorption-reducing)This fiber is a typical type of polarization-plane-holding optical fibers. Polarization-plane-holding fibers have features that polarization status is hardly affected by disturbance.*2 Diameter of glass portion without optical fiber jacket

Cable Assembly for USB3.1 Type-C 10 Gbps

[email protected] Development Division

Fujikura has developed a cable assembly compliant with USB3.1 Type-C (Gen.2) 10 Gbps and received the USB certificate. (connector certified in July 2017)USB3.1 Type-C (Gen.2) is the standard for a 10 Gps transmission rate, which is twice as fast as the current USB and capable of high-speed data transfer in line with improving hardware quality and increasing memory capacity. In addition, the connector allows a user-friendly reversible connection and large electric supply capacity and thus is expected to be widely used as a future standard interface. Our cables offer flexibility by employing a coaxial cable in SuperSpeed line for 10 Gbps data transfer through our design and manufacturing technology of high-frequency high-speed transmission cables. From now on, we will provide cable assemblies, for example, custom products, to meet customer needs.

Lineup of the FF36 Series, 120-conductor Connector to Connect to FPC

Fujikura has developed a 120-conductor connector to meet the needs for multi-conductor connectors for connection to FPCs. The new product was commercialized after resolving challenges of convertibility and warpage of housing components. This products allows highly reliable connections with our proprietary back-lock mechanism even though with many conductors. The product also allows a reversible connection, so that users do not have to pay attention to the mating direction, with the use of contacts on both top and bottom.

Japan's large rockets, H-IIA and H-IIB, from their prototypes to the current models, use Fujikura's umbilical cables manufactured by one of our group companies (Fujikura Dia Cable). An umbilical cable electrically connects a rocket to ground support facilities until just before its launch, offering high reliability and durability by maintaining its functions and performance in harsh launch conditions. In August 19, 2017, H-IIA Launch Vehicle No.35, Michibiki No.3, was launched. Michibiki (Quasi-Zenith Satellite System) will consist of four parts in 2018, so that i t i s expected that stable high-precis ion positioning will become possible. In addition, from now on, more artificial satellites are scheduled to be launched for various purposes. The Fujikura Group will continuously be committed to Japan's space industry through "Tsunagu" (connecting) technology.
