In our relationship with God and one another, our behavior such be that of love and faithfulness. The Ten Commandments explain to us the expectations God has of those who live in covenant with Him. In Exodus 20:2, we hear God say: “I the Lord, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. You shall not have other gods besides Me.” God knows our hearts and understands each of us. His words and actions in the Temple remind us that we too can rid ourselves of such vices. Like the Samaritan woman at the well, Jesus wants to bring to us, the Good News of God’s forgiveness and restoration. Like the disciples during the day of Jesus, we are called to bring the Good News to those who are struggling with faith and faithfulness to pursue and fulfill our God-given potential. Let us take a moment to reflect on the scripture passages for this the third week of Lent: Are you thirsting for the water of LIFE? In what parts of your life do you hunger and thirst for God’s righteousness? Do you believe that God cares and wants your response and the response of every person on earth? Let us remind ourselves: Our response must be to love Him with our whole heart and love our neighbor as ourselves. As we continue through our Lenten journey, we are challenged to overcome fears and distractions, to find the Lord in our midst, and bring others to Him. In the words of St. Augustine:

“FASTING PURIFIES the SOUL, LIFTS the MIND, BRINGS the BODYinto SUBJECTION to the SPIRIT, MAKES the HEART CONTRITE and HUMBLE, SCATTERS the CLOUDS of DESIRE and PUTS OUT the FLAMES of LUST and KINDLES the TRUE LIGHT of CHASTITY.”

Lenten Family Prayer

Loving Father, So many times I turn away from you and always you welcome me back. Your mercy and love gives me confidence. Thank you for the invitation to share, fast and pray, so that you can form a new heart

within me. Your powerful compassion for my weaknesses leads me to ask for mercy and

await with great hope the Easter joy you share with us.

Amen.

Pflaum Gospel Weeklies

Family Catechesis Jesus does not like injustice or

bad actions. In Today’s Gospel, He is not happy with the people who are using the Temple for profit rather than for love of

God. He says the Temple will be destroyed and built again in three days. He is talking about

Himself.

Gospel John 2: 13 - 25

Discussion What things in your life do you

need to get rid of so you can focus more on God? How do

you show you belong to Jesus? Why does Jesus chase the

merchants and moneychangers out of the Temple courtyard?
