Principal’s Message [email protected]
As we enter these last weeks of school, let’s remember
the importance of keeping our students focused on aca-
demics. It’s really easy when the weather gets warm
and daylight lasts longer to forget that we still have
CRCTs and end of the year assignments/projects.
Please help us keep our students focused these last few
weeks.
Please remind our students that their behavior is crucial
to the continuation of fun End of the Year events. When students get in trouble
they risk loosing Pep Rallies, Field Day, Cook-Outs, and many other events.
I also want to remind parents that student drop off is at 7:30am. Teachers do not
report to work until that time and children being left outside of the school unat-
tended is dangerous and parents can be held criminally liable for this. Also,
there is no student pick-ups after 2:00pm. The doors will not be opened after
2:00pm. If you have a transportation change, please call the front office before
2:00pm. Transportation changes should be communicated in writing whenever
possible. Please help us protect your child by following school policies.
If you have any questions, or would like to discuss any of this, please contact me
at (404) 802-7610 or via email at [email protected] .
Bee relentless, Bee a leader, Bee a Kimberly Stinger!!
Sincerely,
Mr. Joseph L. Salley

Tardy = Not being in one’s assigned class or other location within the school at the
beginning of the official school day for students and/or at the official beginning of
the class period for students.
April 2014
After 8...You are Late!
Student will receive a tardy slip. All parents must
come inside the building, report to the main office
and check their child or children into school.
During the month of April, we are focusing mainly on the noble character traits of con-fidence, good manners, enthusiasm and bold-ness. Here are some words to live by from some people who displayed good character.
Jesse Jackson, American Civil Rights Leader,
Baptist Minister and Politician said, “If my
mind can conceive it, and my heart can be-
lieve it, I know I can achieve it”.
Dale Carnegie, American lecturer and au-
thor said, “Inaction breeds doubt and fear.
Action breeds confidence and courage. If
you want to conquer fear, do not sit home
and think about it. Go out and get busy.”
Remember, only you choose to live your life
with good character! So, choose wisely!

Their celebration will be
held April 25, 2014 at 1:00

Center!
That’s right! On Saturday, March 29, Mrs. Harkless-
Brown took the Student Wellness Ambassador on a spe-
cial field trip to the Student Wellness Leadership Sum-
mit. There they learned facts about a food dessert, did
taste tests, visited various learning stations and much
more!

A $1,000 Ben Carson Scholarship was awarded to
our very own 5th grade Stinger...Mr. Cortez Jolly!
A Carson Scholar must have at least a 3.75 GPA and
display humanitarian qualities through community
service. Cortez was presented his awards by Dr.
Ben Carson himself!
L. O. Kimberly participated in the Therrell Transition Cluster Night on
March 6, 2014. The 5th graders as well as their parents and the 8th
graders and their parents were invited to find out about the various pro-
grams Bunche Middle School and Therrell High School have to offer. It
was also was a time to highlight the various activities of each Elementary
School in the West Region. This was done in an effort to assist the 5th
graders transitioning into Middle School next school year.
Transition Night for the “Soon to Be” 6th Graders
According to the Surgeon General, the portion of U.S. children who are
overweight has nearly tripled in the last decade. So in recognition of
National Nutrition Month, Mrs. Harkless-Brown and the National Thea-
tre program teamed up to bring the Give Peas A Chance assembly to
the kindergarten students.
Just for Kindergarten
Yes! That’s right! The student’s breakfast and lunch are free this school year! The
parents don’t even have to fill out a lunch application! That’s some delicious news!
The breakfast line closes at 7:50 a.m.
If you change the way your child is going home, send a note to the
teacher and/or office. This is done for the safety of your child.
Save your box tops, fill up your collection
sheet and turn it in to your school! You will
be helping out L. O. Kimberly and earn a
“Caught Ya” ticket!
On Tuesday, March 25, 2014 L. O. Kim-
berly celebrated its 3rd quarter BUGS!
Now, we are searching for more BUGS!!!
The B.U.G. (Bring Up Grades) program
recognizes students who raise their
grades to an acceptable range and keeps or continues
to raise them from one grading period to the next.
So, set your goals, reach beyond them and become
the next B.U.G. honoree!
The Atlanta Botanical Garden Science and Nutrition
Outreach Program and Mrs. Harkless-Brown, the
School Counselor teamed up to provide interactive
health and science workshops for grades Kindergar-
ten—5. The workshops include Georgia Savage Habi-
tats, Amphibians, Adaptations, and Bromeliads, Am-
phibian Classification and Classroom Taste Tests.
