Principal’s Message

Kia ora, Kia orana, Namaste, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei,

Ni hao ma, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Asalam alikum!

End of Year Procedures

We are in our final two weeks of the 2011 school year.

A reminder that we need you to notify the office,

as soon as possible, please, in writing if:

Your family is moving out of the area and your chil-

dren are changing schools

You have pre-schoolers who will be coming to Eden-

dale in 2012 but are not yet enrolled

You are going on extended holidays and will not be

starting school on the first day (Please forward writ-

ten requests for leave to the Principal stating your

return date to Edendale. Please be aware that if you

are going overseas for an extended period i.e. dur-

ing term time as well as holiday period, you will

need to bring a current rates, power or phone bill

into the school office on the first day that your child

returns to school to confirm that you still reside

within our school zone)

You have moved house and not yet given our office

your new contact details

Your home phone/mobile number has changed re-

cently.

Thank you for your continued support with this.

Community Hui and Fono

We met with a very small number of our Maori and

Pasifika families last night to discuss learning at Eden-

dale and talk about fundraising ideas and community

events. Thank you to those families who did attend

and also to team leaders for coming along to talk with

our families. We had very worthwhile discussions with

both groups; we realise that it’s a busy time of the year

for everyone but were very disappointed with atten-

dance. There will be feedback about the ideas we dis-

cussed in the final newsletter for the year after we’ve

talked about them at our Board planning meeting next

week (please note that the planning meeting is not a

public meeting and will be held earlier in the evening

than usual).

Morning tea for parents new to Edendale

We were really pleased to have a great turn-out for our

New Parents Morning Tea for Term Four. Some good

discussion took place with both senior staff and PTA

members Sarah and Aamel who also came along to

welcome the group.

Tolu Fa Choir

Congratulations to our Tolu Fa Choir who performed so

brilliantly in the Kids for Kids Christmas Show at the

Bruce Mason Centre on Wednesday 16 November. You

looked great and sounded incredible - well done to you

all! A big thank you to our choir teacher Lesley Boswell!

Eden/Albert Schools Cultural Festival 2011

Our Senior Kapa Haka group performed at this Cultural

Festival last Saturday and they did an outstanding job.

It was wonderful to have an Edendale presence this

year and very exciting for those involved. A big thank

you to Desma Lai and Emma Henry for training our

group!

We were a little disappointed that the festival seems to

have ‘lost’ the community festive atmosphere that it

had when it was held in schools and that audience

groups did not stay (in many cases) to watch groups

other than their own perform. We are hoping to re-

incorporate a cultural performance into a mini- school

festival at Edendale and have a greater proportion of

our community attend and enjoy the performances.

We’ll be asking for some assistance from parents within

our community early next year to train dance groups.

More about this later.

Measles

There has been one confirmed

Measles is a highly infectious disease and is more serious than many people realise. Symptoms include fever, cough, red eyes and a runny nose, and then a rash which develops around 3 days after the other symptoms start.

Any student with measles must stay away from school for 5-7 days from the appearance of the rash until recovery.

If you think you or someone in your family might have measles, please phone your doctor or call Healthline 0800 611 116 for advice.

For more information and advice, visit the Ministry of Health website at www.moh.govt.nz/measles, the Immunisation Advisory Centre (IMAC) website at www.immune.org.nz or phone IMAC on 0800 IM-MUNE (0800 466 863).
