I hope by now you have received the Stewardship Commitment packet and have had the chance to look it over and have begun to pray about your response for 2014. Our Stewardship Commitment Sunday will be November 10th, and at both services that morning you will have an opportunity to bring your “Faith Card” and place it on the communion table. I hope you will make every effort to be with us as we celebrate our gifts to God. In the third chapter of 2nd Corinthians, Paul writes: “You are a letter of Christ…written by the Spirit of God upon the heart…known and be read by everybody!” Do you understand those words from Paul? YOU, personally, are a letter of our Lord and WE, together, Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Presbyterian Church are a letter of Christ – sent to your families and communities with the love of God. Each one of us is a letter of Christ. We are sent by God to help and encourage the people in our lives. When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we “sign the letter” confirming our discipleship in the area of our stewardship commitment to our Lord’s ministry. In a fuller sense, when Paul says, “You are a letter of Christ, he is referring to the entire congregation in the town of Corinth – all of the believers, together. “We, the church, are a letter of Christ.” During our fall Stewardship Campaign, everyone is being asked to consider the spiritual letter of your own life, reflect on its contents, and then prayerfully consider your role as part of the greater letter of our church. Let us sow generously and contribute according to what God has given us, with cheerful hearts and substantial commitment, to what God is doing through us, together.
Blessings, Pastor Pat

“But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’”~ Matthew 4:4.
I’ve often heard it said, “I come to church to recharge my batteries.” Somehow, this always brings to mind the picture of someone carrying a dead car battery into church and sitting it right there on the pew next to his or herself. Have you ever forgotten to recharge a cell phone or laptop? How about a camera? And what if the car battery is dead? Yes, many of us know what it is like to have a dead battery. We have to make it a point to plug in and recharge our battery. I sometimes ponder what it is like for God when I don’t plug in and recharge my spiritual life batteries. God is the one that wants to call us, and use us. What if the connection is lost because I’ve let the battery die? How many missed opportunities to serve Him come from not being plugged in? Jesus tells us that we should not just do the physical preparations that get us by in life, but we must re-charge our souls - daily! So, I invite you to get plugged into the Word. There are so many opportunities here at Little Chapel to do so. I thank God for our team of Sunday School in-structors. They are a wonderful influence on the lives of others! Stop in and join a class on Sunday mornings, 9:15AM-10:15AM. There is a class for everyone, each chalk full of opportunities to get to know or strengthen one’s personal relationship with God. Another opportunity is a weekly Bible Study. Get re-charged by coming to “If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat.”
Our first class is Tuesday, November 5.
We will have a class at noon (bring a bag lunch) or you can choose to attend the class at 6:30PM.
So let’s get our soul batteries recharged, because we don’t want to miss God’s call!
Selah! Yours in Christ, Karen Scheboth
PRESBYTERIAN YOUTH CONNECTION
For a schedule of events, please see: www.littlechapel.org
Click on ‘ministries,’ then click on ‘PYC.’ Copies of PYC schedules are also
available in the narthex. November is full of youth oriented opportunities! We will be having a lock-in at the church Friday, November 8th-9th which will begin at 7:30pm and last until 8am. We will be going skating, staying up late, playing games, and having a cookie competition! We would love any chaperones or food donations. Saturday, November 16th we will be heading to UNCW to help work the 9am-12pm shift for Stop Hun-ger Now, an organization that provides packaged, healthy meals to areas devastated by natural disaster. And both November 3rd and 24th will be normal PYC days! Looking ahead: In December we will be wrapping Christmas gifts as a fundraiser so remind your parents or friends to bring their presents to the church either on Sunday, December 1st or Saturday December 14th to have them wrapped by the youth group! We invite any youth, grades 6th-12th, to join us Sundays from 5:30-7:00 for food, fun, and fellowship. Please con-tact Katherine, 804-380-4339, if you have any questions or comments! We will be assembling College Care packages in November. If you know of a student who should be on the receiving end of this wonder-ful outreach, please contact Karen Scheboth (256-2819 ext. 105). We are always happy to accept items to include in the packages. One way we are able to send such wonderful care packages is because our congregation members are al-ways on the look out for donations in the community. Sometimes all it takes is telling a local business what we are doing and that what we are looking for and they are usually happy to support our students. We like to include the following categories of items: School/office supplies, candy/food, cou-pons, devotions/faith items and toys to ease their stress during exams. Thank you for helping us find donations, and for con-tinually praying for our students! Donations may be dropped off in Karen Scheboth’s office.

Hanging of the Greens
Workday
Please mark your calendars for Monday, November 25, at 9:00 AM for a workday to decorate the church for Advent and Christmas. We need a lot of people to complete this project. I know that this is Thanksgiving week but the first Sunday of Advent is Sunday, December 1 so we need to be prepared. We have many things to do. To name a few we have to decorate the Chrismon Tree; put the wreaths on all of the doors of which there are many; put the trees on the credenzas in the narthex and decorate them; put the poin-settia cross up and fill it; put the big wreaths on the stone walls on either side of the poinsettia cross; put out several nativity scenes. Do you have any idea how many red bows we have to fluff and put on wreaths? There is a job for eve-ryone. We had many people help last year and you have to admit we had a good time. Please come out on November 25 and help. Thank you, Janice

John is a Presbyterian Minister. Karen Scheboth will lead this discussion. The class will be offered twice a week (same lesson, once during the day and once in the evening-just in case you may have to miss a class, twice a week offers an extra opportunity to attend).

A special Thank you goes out to all of our church family at Little Chapel, for your generous support of our October mission trip to Crossnore, NC. Your gift cards and financial contributions helped to make this trip a success for the Crossnore School, the Crossnore Presbyterian Church, and Little Chapel on the Boardwalk! The fourteen members of the mission team felt your prayers and support during the entire visit to Avery County in the western part of our state. We are blessed to be able to offer our love and labors to our new friends in Crossnore. A special presentation during worship on November 3 will share with you the highlights of the trip. You won't want to miss it!

Stop Hunger Now!
Members of the Little Chapel family are invited to join folks from other churches as we pack meals for the hungry in the U.S. and overseas, on Sat-
urday, November 16, from 9 until noon. You may have seen news stories about this project in previous years, but there is a special twist this year: we will be part of an assembly line, as the group works toward the Wilmington goal of packing 250,000 meals! No cooking is required, so dress casually and comfortably, and get ready to be part of an historic event. We will meet at LCOB at 8:15AM and head to UNCW that morning. Please sign the sheet in the Narthex if you are able to be part of a team on this "local" mission project. Further information will be provided once you sign up. Questions? Mary Jo Kohunsky, 509-0258 or [email protected].
A Presbyterian tradition since the 1930's has been the Christmas Joy Offering, which is one of the special offerings designated by the Presbyterian Church (USA). On Sunday, December 1st , you will be given the opportunity to share God's love to others by giv-ing to the Christmas Joy Offering. One-half of this offering supports the Assistance Program of the Board of Pensions, which assists families of active and retired pastors and church workers meet unexpected needs. The other half supports racial ethnic education at Presbyterian-related schools and colleges. Many of these students would not be able to receive an educa-tion without scholarships received from the Offer-ing. Please give generously to the Christmas Joy Of-fering.
TILESTON UPDATE
We had the opportunity and pleasure of taking a tour in October of the Tileston Outreach Center. Our tour guide was the wonderful, Bill Frye. It was just amazing to see the workers in the center and how very organized the center is kept. It is a most efficient operation! We also had the opportunity to meet 2 guests. Both gentle-men were cold and wet, as they had slept under the bridge during the cold spell. They were both so gracious and grateful. One had a huge smile on his face. He had re-ceived a very warm sweater, which still had the “L” size tag of masking tape. He was so appreciative. They both had received sandwiches. NONE of us know what this must feel like. It was quite moving. We heard of special needs during our tour. They need clean sheets, towels and especially warm blankets. They need warm men’s clothing and shoes, any sizes but espe-cially smaller sizes such as 30” waist pants and jeans. Women’s clothing is needed as well, any sizes and larger are in need. Cookware is needed. If you are receiving new cookware for the upcoming holidays, think about donating your old cookware to Tileston. It would be most appreciat-ed. A special request right now is for canned foods. They are in need of canned proteins, even spaghetti and sauce would be great. As always, TOILETRIES ARE NEEDED! When we say this, we include shampoo, deodorant, bars of soap, as well as cleaning supplies and laundry detergent. Also, toilet pa-per, paper towels, and diapers are needed. You may place donations on the "Tileston Bench" at the Little Chapel any time the church is open. One of our Team Tileston Drivers makes a delivery once a week. If you have furniture, appliances or a large quantity of boxed/bagged donations, you may call Sister Isaac’s office and leave a message requesting a van pick-up. Leave a de-tailed description of the items you wish to give at 762-5491, Ext 135. A volunteer will return your call to arrange a time for pick-up. Thank you to a wonderful congregation for your continued generosity! If you have any questions for us, please call Ellen Dudley at 470-7588 or email [email protected]. or Jacalyn Bristow at 471-5959.

Each person involved expressed their concern and willing-ness to help in so many ways. I would again like to thank Martha, Marjorie, the kitchen committee, Ushers, Jean Schild and parking persons. Presbyterian Counseling Center
CENTERPOINT
Thanksgiving will soon be here. Many people are antici-pating a joyful day with family and friends. It will be a day filled with love, laughter and, of course, delicious food with a plump, juicy turkey in the center of the ta-ble. It will be a day of celebration and giving thanks. Unfortunately that kind of Thanksgiving is not a reality for everyone. There are those who are mourning the loss of loved ones, those trying to cope with tragedy and those whose families are deeply embroiled in conflict and filled with resentment, anger and hurt. For them the holiday can be a dreaded time. Instead of love and laughter, they may be feeling loneliness, profound sad-ness or deep anger and hurt. Counseling cannot change anyone’s circumstances, but it can help resolve conflicts, heal hurt and restore hope. With help people can once again begin to anticipate a day of celebration and giving thanks. Call 452-7370, and visit the Center: www.smhealing.org and www.presbyteriancounselingcenter.org .
