ForewordBy Eric Teo Silk Keong

I initiated the idea of creating a customized website for UMAC through UMAC Website Engineering.

It is not an easy job to start everything without the support of others. Therefore, before proceedingwith everything, I would like express my deepest gratitude to people that had helped me

throughout the process, namely UMAC Advisor Dr. Rusnah Muhamad, UMAC Board of Directors

2009/2010, and UMAC Website Engineering Committees.

Other than the people mentioned above, I also would like to thank University of Malaya Student

Affairs and Alumni Division(HEPA), Faculty of Business and Accountancy (FPP) and UMAC for giving

the project a chance to turn its ideas into reality. The chance will surely be treasured and we are

doing all we can to make it the best of the best!

Why create website for UMAC?

During academic calendar of UM in session 2008/2009, the ex-BOD of UMAC had registered

Friendster account for UMAC to bring together all accounting undergraduates in FPP to interact. It

also serves as a platform to publicize any activities organized by UMAC in the popular social

networking portal. UMAC’s effort to publicize itself has been extended to Facebook, where an

account has been created by the current BOD serving the same objectives as the Friendster one.

However the future of online trend is never predictable. It is crucial for UMAC to find a path to

brand up itself and to gain a firm stand in the ever changing virtual world. This is where the idea of customized UMAC Website is initiated.

Why should we have 3 years plan?

This strategic plan lays out the steps needed to be done in order to make UMAC not only a UM

brand, but a Malaysian brand by fulfilling its potential. Other than that, the strategic plan will be

continued by the new BOD after the current BOD has stepped down. This is a team effort and I

firmly believe that UMAC has all what it takes to be a Malaysian brand in 3 years.

I hope that everyone in UMAC will come together and make this a reality, not only now, but in the

future as well. For me, nothing is impossible and I believe that UMAC’s future generation will

achieve more than what had been planned here. UMAC born us, and we should contribute to its

well being in the future! Cheers!

Introduction

UMAC Website Engineering Project is a new project which serves to provide latest

information in the field of accounting profession to the accounting undergraduates of University of

Malaya. As time goes, we will adopt some professional suggestions to expand the project tonational level in order to serve the whole community of Malaysian accounting undergraduates.

It is done by creating 2 websites within 3 years time. One is UMAC official website and

another one is Malaysian Accounting Undergraduates Website which brings the name MAU.com.

Pursuant to the UM’s effort to move towards paperless administration culture as a support

to the “UM Cares” environmental campaign. UMAC Website is one of the way to align with the

university administrations’ effort. E-mail has also being used as an official means of communication

amongst the campus community and non-campus parties to reduce the use of papers. In the longrun, UMAC hopes to play a role in supporting the paperless culture, spreading the influence to all its

members and affiliates, and creates future accountants which not only concern about numbers, but

also their environment!

Upon the completion of this 3-year strategic plan, UMAC’s roles and responsibilities will

extend to national level. It also will brand up UMAC locally and globally, recognized by many parties.

We do hope that with all the efforts we put in, this dream is not rhetoric, but a reality.
