DAY 3 BAGAN

After breakfast,a full day of Bagan sightseeing awaits with famous temples such as:(1) Gu-Pyauk-Kyi(Wetkyi-Inn); a 13th century temple with a spire resembling that of the Maha-Bodhi Temple at Buddha Gaya in India, known for its wall-painting that depict scenes from the Jataka ( stories of the lives of Buddha).(2) Hti-lo-min-lo; built in 1211 AD and one of the largest temples ,noted for its fine plaster carvings on the arch pediments and friezes.(3) Shwe-Zi-Gon; completed in 1084,noted for its glazed plaques depicting scenes from the Jatakas.(4) Bu Phaya;standing at the edge of the AyeyawadyRiver, an ancient landmark for travellers along the river. DAY 2 YANGON – MANDALAY (by air) – SAGAING - AMARAPURA

After breakfast at hotel, transfer to Yangon Airport for early morning flight to Mandalay. From Mandalay airport, we begin the days’s tour with : (1) a drive to the Sagaing Hills across the Ayeyarwaddy River Bridge and see the spectacular scenic view on approach to these pagoda-dotted hills.(2) Uminthonze pagoda and Soon OO Pon Nya Shin pagoda from where fantastic views of the pagoda –studded Sagaing Hills and the Ayeyawaddy River are seen.(3) Ti-Lawka-Guru;Mural Paintings can be seen in this cave temple,(4) Ywa-Htaung village;to observe silver-Smith workshops.





(5) On return to Mandalay side of river, we drop in to Amarapura - famous for MahaGandaryone Monastery.and observe monastic life. Walk over UPein Wooden Bridge, the longest teakwood of its type.(6) Proceed on to Maha Muni Image - a bronze Buddha image said to be cast during the lifetime of Buddha himself. Day 3 MANDALAY – MINGUN – MANDALAY HILL

We will spend the day in Mandalay, the last royal capital and environs . Although quite a young city and a hub of commerce it is the main centre for monastic learning for over a century now. Therefore the city and environs is a place of stupas, monks and monasteries. On this day’s trip : (1) We go to Mandalay pier, embarking on a private boat upstream to visit Mingun, famed for its huge and incomplete Pahtodawgyi Pagoda and MingunBell; a 90 ton ringing bell and largest of its kind in the world.(2) After lunch,in the afternoon, we visit Mandalay Palace and the nearby, Shwe Nandaw Monastery - noted for its exquisite wood carvings and Kuthodaw Pagoda - known as the world biggest book.(3) We finish the day’s tour by visiting Mandalay Hill to experience a tropical sun-set with panoramic views of the city and the Ayeyarwaddy River.Accommodation: Hotel in Mandalay.Meals: Breakfast,Lunch, Dinner.

DAY 4 MANDALAY - INLE (by air) INLE LAKE DAY 1

Day 5 INLE LAKE BOAT EXCURSION DAY 2

This day’s tour includes :





(1) A morning visit to a colourful local market which is held every five days in various village locations around the lake. This is definitely a fascinating experience where you will see local tribes in their traditional clothing and exotic market atmosphere.(2) After lunch, the boat-tour will take you to beautiful temples of Indein, located on a hill overlooking the lake. DAY 6 INLE – BAGAN (by air) BAGAN DAY 1

Today, we fly to Bagan, Myanmar’s premier archeological site where over 2,000 ancient temples are located in a small area beside the Ayeyarwaddy River. The day’s tour includes : (1) A trip to the bustling Nyaung U Market in Old Bagan(2) Explore the beautiful, gold-leaf covered Shwezigon pagoda and learn about the Burmese Buddhist traditions. (3) We continue our tour with a visit to the towering Ananda temple, stopping along the way onthe Bagan plain to admire some of the surrounding temples.(4) In the afternoon, take a tour of a local lacquer ware workshop and learn about this traditional craft.

For this day’s tour :(1) We start with a horse cart ride to one of the biggest temples in Bagan,the Nan Paya pagoda and other interesting sites nearby, (2) We continue on sightseeing at the Myinkaba Gubyaukyi Temple, and MyaZedi pagoda before heading to Manuha Temple. DAY 8 BAGAN – MT.POPA

For this day’s tour :(1) We leave the Bagan temples for a while and take a short drive to Mt Popa. We join local pilgrims on a winding staircase ascent of the Mt Popa and see the Nat Shrines that line the walk along with the monkeys that live on the mountain. (2) On the way back to Bagan, we will experience the traditional toddy palm sugar, and peanut oil production.(3) We then return to Bagan for a short cruise along the Irrawaddy River at sunset.

Today in the early morning you commence your 3 day- trekking trip. This day’s tour includes a short morning trip to Mt. Popa and return to Yangon :(1) We leave the Bagan temples and take a short drive to Mt. Popa. We join local pilgrims on a 777-step winding staircase ascent of the Mt Popa and see the Nat (spirit)shrines that line the walkway along with the monkeys that live on the mountain. Mt. Popa is known as the abode of Nats (spirits) - a collection of 37 magical spirits both feared and honoured by some Myanmar people and you can also see the nat museum, which houses 37 life-size nat statues sculpted from teak. It is home to a thousand monks, who will form a procession as they go to take their noon and final meal of the day. (2) Amarapura was the capital of upper Burma until 1850. As it was the custom, most of the important wooden palaces and monasteries were taken down and transported to the new capital in Mandalay. You will visit Patodawgyi Pagoda built in 1820, which is graced by marble panels on its 3 lower terraces, and affords excellent views of the surrounding area. (3) U Bein wooden bridge, over 150 years old, which is still in use. Early morning,transfer to Yangon airport for departure flight to Mandalay ETD:06:30,ETA:08:35.Upon arrival to Mandalay Airport :(1) we drive to the ancient capital Amarapura for a visit to Bagaya Monastery with a famous collection of Buddha images; observe the local weaving industry.(2) walk across the two-century old U-Bein teak bridge on the Taungthaman Lake and later observe the lunch process of thousand of monks who take their last meal of the day at 10:00 am in total silence at Maha Gandaryon Monastery. We proceed to Mandalay and check in at the hotel. After refreshment, a sightseeing tour of Mandalay which includes :(3) Maha Muni Image - a bronze Buddha image said to be cast during the lifetime of Buddha himself. It is the holiest buddhist site in Upper Myanmar : a Buddha image of great beauty and witness the reverence and worship of the local people. (4) Mandalay Palace and the nearby, Shwe Nandaw Monastery - noted for its exquisite wood carvings and Kuthodaw Pagoda - known as the world biggest book.

DAY 5 MANDALAY – MINGUN - AVA

The day’s tour includes :(1) a 45 minute private boat ride across the river Ayeywarwaddy to visit Mingun. Stop at Kywe Zoon on the way to the pier to watch the busy riverside activity. (2) The unfinished but unfinished Pahtodawgyi Pagoda, a brick counterpart of the pyramids of Egypt and the Mingun Bell, the second largest ringing bell in the world. (3) The Myatheintan Pagoda, a representation of the Buddhist universe.We return to Mandalay by boat and after lunch, drive to the ruins of the Kingdom of Ava, 30-minutes to the south of Mandalay. Although the royal palace is no more, the pagodas, temples and monasteries still remain there.(4) We travel by pony-cart around Ava to Nanmyint Leaning Tower which gives a birds' eye view of the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River; Bagaya;a wooden monastery; Aungmyaybonza Monastery made of brick and stucco. DAY 6 MANDALAY – BAGAN





We depart from Mandalay to Bagan by air. On arrival in Bagan we, check into the hotel and depart for a sightseeing excursion around the Bagan Archaeological Zone Heritage Area and begin a comprehensive tour of Bagan including : (1) NyaungOo market(2) Shwezigon Pagoda, the prototype of later Myanmar stupas(3) Kyansittha Umin(4) Wet-kyi-Inn Gubyaukgyi Temple with its exquisite mural paintings of 13th century (5) the majestic HtilominloTemple. This day’s tour includes a short morning trip to Mt. Popa and return to Yangon :





(1) We leave the Bagan temples and take a short drive to Mt. Popa. We join local pilgrims on a 777-step winding staircase ascent of the Mt Popa and see the Nat (spirit)shrines that line the walkway along with the monkeys that live on the mountain. Mt. Popa is known as the abode of Nats (spirits) - a collection of 37 magical spirits both feared and honoured by some Myanmar people and you can also see the nat museum, which houses 37 life-size nat statues sculpted from teak. (2) Proceed to Popa Mountain Resort for lunch. The restaurant offers a great view to the Popa summit and the central plain.On the way back to Bagan we will stop at a village to see the collection of juice from the toddy-palm trees, and its conversion to brown sugar. DAY 8 BAGAN – HEHO - PINDAYA

Today we depart Bagan and take a flight to Heho on the Shan plateau ETD:7:50,ETA:08:30. Upon arrival:(1) we transfer by road to Pindaya (60km) about 90 minutes drive. After check in hotel,we take an excursion to the caves which houses over 8,000 Buddha Images accumulated over the centuries (2) In the afternoon, explore the small quiet town for it's famous traditional Shan paper & parasol making cottage industry. This morning we are driving to Inle Lake. We have a leisurely morning making our way down into the Inle lake and by "long-tail" boat cross the lake to our hotel right on the lake. In the afternoon, we plan to spend the day:(1) A boat excursion on InleLake, a delight to all with a camera ,its calm water dotted with floating vegetation on floating Islands and small fishing boats,to which scenic high hills provide the perfect back-drop. See the “Intha” (Lake- dwelling people) also known as the unique “Leg-Rowers” who use one leg to stand on the boat while the other leg is wrapped around an oar and rows.(2) You will continue on to Nga Phe Chaung; also known as the Jumping Cats Monastery which is one of the oldest monasteries on the lake with ancient Buddha Statues dated over 200 years and amazing cats trained by the Buddhist monks.(3) Observe floating Gardens, with vegetables and flowers grown on them, and the lake way of life at ‘Kay La Village’.(4) Visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda,the holiest religious site in Southern Shan State which has five small Buddha Statues so heavily gilded with gold that the original buddha images are unrecognizable.(5) Observing the Lake Inle cottage industry workshops such as silk & lotus fabric weaving with wooden handlooms at “Inn-Paw- Kone”Village, traditional ‘mild-cigar –making’ (cheroot Factory at “Se’ Kaung Village” and tradional silver and gold smiths,paper umbrella –making at ‘Ywa-ma’ Village.You will also see Padaunghill tribe ladies(ladies with elongated necks from wearing brass rings around their necks) in that village. Day 10 INLE LAKE BOAT EXCURSION

After breakfast at the hotel :





(1) we visit a floating market which is held a t villages on the lake according to a 5 day rotation schedule. It is most fascinating to watch the daily life of the ethnic hill tribes and their market activities. (2) we continue our excursion by motorized boat to the Indein pagoda complex, on the south-west of the lake. The boat leaves the lake and enters a narrow canal to a small Pa O tribal village. From the village, we follow an old path to a 13th century monastery and the very impressive ruins of hundreds of ancient pagodas, some hidden in the vegetation. The main stupa-area on the top of the hill offers breathtaking views over the surrounding mountains and down to the valley and the lake in the far distance. Return to your hotel and overnight at the hotel.

This morning, after breakfast in hotel, we drive down to Mandalay.Upon arrival to Mandalay ,we proceed directly for sightseeing to Inn-Wa(Ava):this old capital of Myanmar was found in 1364 A.D by King Thado Minpya. It lies at the junction of the Ayarwaddy with the Myitnge (Dohtawadi) River, and the town was built on





an artificial island surrounded by a channel, the Myittha Stream, which was dug from the Myitnge River which flows into the Ayarwaddy. The city stands in the North-East corner of the triangular island.(1) At Innwa we take a pony cart and explore this old capital. Sightseeing includes; the old wall, the site of Bagyidaw’s palace (1819-37) is now marked by a solitary masonry Watch Tower which is about 90 feet high.(2) Okkyaung (or) Maha Aungmye Bonzan Monastery was built by Nanmadaw Mae Nu, chief Queen of Bagyidaw in 1818.This masonry monastery is a fine specimen of its type of Myanmar architecture. In the evening we drive to the ancient capital of Amarapura, (the city of Immortals ) and visit :(3) the huge Bagaya Monastery with a famous collection of Buddha images(4) Traditional style weaving cottage industry sites (5) The two-century old U-Bein teak bridge on the Taungthaman Lake. DAY 5 MANDALAY - SAGAING - MONYWA

For today we have a day trip to Sagaing and Monywa :(1) a drive to the Sagaing Hills across the Ayeyarwaddy River Bridge and see the spectacular scenic view on approach to these pagoda-dotted hills. We visit UminThonze pagoda and Soon Oo Ponnyashin pagoda from where fantastic views of the pagoda –studded Sagaing Hills and the Ayeyawaddy River are seen.(2) We proceed to Monywa: about 136 km to the west of Mandalay, the commercial centre of Chindwin valley. Places of interests are; Thanbodde Pagoda adorned with over 500,000 Buddha images, Bodhi-Tataung (One thousand Bo trees),Ledi Monastery;a teaching monastery where Buddhist scriptures are inscribed on 806 stone slabs, ,the huge standing Buddha image Laykyun Setkyar built by Bodhi Tahtaung Sayadaw (a venerable monk). It is the second tallest Buddha Image in the world at 116 meters. The image has become one of the main tourist attractions in upper Myanmar. Dinner and overnight in Monywa.

DAY 6 MONYWA – PO WIN HILL – MANDALAY





For today’s tour :(1) In the morning, we visit Kyauk-ka village; known for its own distinctive kind of lacquerware even more ancient and rustic than that of Bagan.(2) We cross the Chindwin River and by jeep continue on to visit Po Win Hill; an extraordinary complex containing 947 sandstone caves dug out of the hills said to be the richest collection of mural paintings and buddha statues in South-East Asia.(3) We explore the nearby Shwe Ba Hill; where monasteries and temples are carved out of narrow cliffs.(4) We return to Mandalay and on the way,have lunch at Sagaing and stop at Ywar-Htaung Silversmith village to observe silversmith workshops. DAY 10 INLE – HEHO – BAGAN (by air)





You are transferred to Heho Airport for an early morning flight to Bagan and on arrival transferred to Hotel.Afterwards you will begin a tour of Bagan”s highlights; famous temples,such as : (1) Ananda Temple,1090AD,a master piece of early Bagan period temple-architecture with four huge standing Buddha images. (2) That-Byin-Nyu; a mid-12th century temple , 66 meters in height, towering above all other monuments and presenting visitors with a magnificent panorama of Bagan plain.(3) Shwe-Gu-Gyi; a temple built in 1131 AD, standing on a high brick plinth, with arch-pediments and decorated with fine stucco carvings(4) Gaw-Daw-Palin Temple built in the 12th century with a fine view over the ruins of the Bagan plains.(5) a visit to a Lacquer ware workshop, to observe the process of making a lacquer ware and its showroom. DAY 11 BAGAN – Full day sightseeing

Today’s tour includes :(1) A morning visit to the interesting local Nyaung Oo Market where you can buy some cotton clothing or local woven fabrics and souvenirs. (2) a visit to Shwezigon Pagoda, the prototype of later Myanmar stupas and Kyansittha Umin cave.





(3) Gu-Pyauk-Kyi (Wetkyi-Inn) ; a 13th century temple with a spire resembling that of the Maha-Bodhi Temple at Buddha Gaya in India, with notable for its wall-paintings; depicting scenes from the Jataka. DAY 12 BAGAN – MT. POPA - BAGAN

For this day’s tour :(1) We leave the Bagan temples for a while and take a short drive to Mt. Popa. We join local pilgrims on a winding staircase ascent of the Mt Popa and see the Nat (spirit)shrines that line the walkway along with the monkeys that live on the mountain. (2) On the way back to Bagan, we will experience the traditional toddy palm sugar, and peanut oil production.(3) We then return to Bagan for a short boat ride along the Irrawaddy River at sunset.

DAY 1. YANGON (ARRIVAL)

Mid-morning arrival by air in Yangon (Mingalardon Airport).You will be met by your English- speaking guide who will accompany throughout your whole trip of Myanmar and transfer to Hotel. It is approximately 45 minutes from airport to hotel and after check-in,you can have lunch and then start a brief city tour of Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon,which is still a relatively quiet and charming city. Its impressive colonial and spiritual heritage makes Yangon one of the most fascinating and authentic capitals in South East Asia. (1) Depending on your interests and the time available your group can visit downtown Yangon with its faded colonial buildings and atmosphere(2) the Sule Pagoda and Chinatown. DAY 2. YANGON-MANDALAY (By morning flight)





After breakfast at hotel,your group will transfer to Yangon’s Mingaladon Airport for the flight to Mandalay. On arrival,your group will start a sightseeing tour of Mandalay, the centre of Buddhism in Myanmar, full of stupas, monks and monasteres.(1) You will see monks at worship and having midday meals.(2) In the afternoon, we will visit a gold leaf- beating workshop (3) afterwards, we will visit the most venerated icon of Mandalay : the Mahamuni Image – a bronze Buddha image said to be cast during the lifetime of Buddha himself. Day 3. Mandalay – Mingun – Mandalay Hill

(1) After breakfast, your group will transfer to Mandalay pier, embarking on a private boat and cruise the Irrawaddy River towards the former capital of Mingun. After the 45- minute cruise, you arrive in Mingun, famous for its huge and unfinished Pahtodawgyi Pagoda and Mingun Bell, the 90 ton second-largest ringing bell in the world. (2) You will also see the beautiful white Hsinbyume Pagoda. Day 4. MDY – BAGAN ( By boat )





After breakfast at hotel, transfer to the jetty for a boat trip to Bagan. As it cruises southwards, the river boat passes many villages offering a glimpse into the way of life along the Arrawaddy River.You will not be able to spend the night on an island as it is not permitted but the boat will stop at two villages along the way so you can explore. You will arrive in Bagan late in the evening and transfer to hotel. Lunch, snacks and refreshments will be provided on this cruise.Bagan, on the dry plain of central Myanmar by the banks of the Arrawaddy River, is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Asia. In a period of 230 years, from 11th to 13th centuries BC, Bagan was the capital of Myanmar, marked by a religious fervor and building frenzy resulting in the thousand of stupas and temples many of which are still standing today. Day 5. BAGAN ( Optional Balloon ride and sightseeing)

After a sunrise balloon ride, we first visit Nyaung U Market, where country people come and buy their goods. Take the late morning flight from Mandalay airport to Heho airport where our driver awaits to transfer you to the Inle lake.

(2) Afterwards, the boat will take you to the beautiful Indein ruined temple complex, located on a hill overlooking the lake.
