Prototype Development Innovation Fund (PDIF) and Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE)

In order to foster and promote an innovation ecosystem in Punjab, IIT Ropar has launched two schemes: Prototype Development Fund (PDIF) with a generous grant from Punjab Technical University and Technology and Development for Entrepreneurs (TIDE), funded by Department of Electronics and Information Technology. Under these schemes, IIT Ropar has already supported four start-ups in the areas of (a) patent search software (b) computer games, (c) Robotics and (d) Media Streaming. One of the supported companies, XLPat has already come out with a product for patent search and it is being marketed in USA; Greedy Games Ltd, a start-up by our Alumni has many reputed companies, such as Pepsi, Amazon, Flipkart, Snap deal, PayTM and Disney as their clients.

To summarize, IIT Ropar is poised at an important juncture. We have set our aims very high and feet firmly on the ground.

Industrial Relations, International and Alumni Affairs

Realizing the need for industry-institute linkages & its growth, relations with international universities & Indian Diaspora and Alumni, a dedicated Dean’s office, designated as Office of Industrial Relations, International and Alumni Affairs has been established in the month of July 2015. Industrial lecture series has been started, for which renowned industrialists are being invited on-campus to deliver technical and motivational talks. The institute has got the membership of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in order to strengthen its tie-ups with industry. The Department of Mechanical Engineering had organized an Industry-Academic Conclave on May 11, 2015, in which industrialists from more than thirty well-known organizations participated. In addition to its on-going MoUs with several universities, the institute recently signed MoUs with Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), Australia; Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), South Korea; Aksaray University, Turkey and Semiconductor Lab (SCL), India. The institute has been actively participating in National-level initiatives such as Global Initiative of Academic Network (GIAN), under which the institute has got a grant to hold a short-term program on Surface Engineering in June 2016.
