Throughout history, God has spo-

ken to man. He spoke through

Abraham, Moses and the proph-

ets. God’s Word became flesh in

Jesus, and he continues to speak to us today through Scripture

and the Tradition of the Church. God also speaks to each person

through his or her vocation in life.

Each person has a vocational calling. A person’s vocation is the

way in which he or she grows in holiness through service of God.

Some people are called to marriage while others are called to the

priesthood or religious life. Some people serve God in their single

state of life. Regardless of a person’s vocational calling, all of the

faithful are called to serve God in charity and faithfulness.

In his apostolic exhortation Ecclesia in America, Pope John Paul II

said: “The word of God, faithfully read in the family, gradually

builds it up as a domestic church and makes it fruitful in human

and Christian virtues; it is there that the source of vocations is to

be found.”

By remaining close to God’s word in the Scriptures, families are

able help each other discern God’s voice in their own lives. In this

way, families can support and nurture the vocation of its mem-

bers as they help each other lead holy lives.

What is a way that your family can share the Scriptures with each

other? How can you support each family member’s vocation?

In Chapter 19:1-11,

of the book of Levit-

icus, we read that

God gives the Israel-

ites some basic rules

of conduct in which

in a way, He reiter-

ates some of his 10

commandments and

adds a few others.

Some of these rules

of conduct may not

be well known, but

ultimately have al-

ways been good to

live by, whether in

ancient times or in

ours. Compare these

rules of conduct to

the 10 command-

ments. Draw a line

from the rules of

conduct to the particular commandment it is similar to. How many rules of

conduct has God reiterated? Why would He do this? How many rules were

given specifically because of the times the Israelites were living in? How

many rules of conduct should we be following today? Discuss the answers as

Liturgy Notes:

Offerings

Prepare your offering to the Lord before Mass begins. Walk in Pro-

cession towards the Altar. The offering you deposit in the basket is

as important as the heart offering that you place on the Altar of the

Lord.

Holy Communion

At the time of Communion, stand up and line up in silence for the

Communion Procession. The Body of Christ is placed on your left

hand, eat it with your right hand in front of the priest or Minister.

Those who will not receive it, please come up to adore the Presence

of Christ in the Eucharist with arms crossed.

Handicap

The first pew on on each aisle is reserved for our handicapped

brothers and sisters. Persons on wheelchairs are welcome to occupy

their place in front of the first pew. If you are unable to sit in front

pew please ask an Ushers to bring you Holy Communion where

you are seated.
