Royal Lawns of America,Inc., has been in business

for over 40 years and is

    now in its second generation.

    Michael Miller took over the

    Wayne-based business from his

father and has continued to pro-vide the community with the same

fine services that are in tune with

    the environment.

    The owner-operated, owner-

    on-site business offers customers

the benefit of paying one price for

the whole year, and there are no

    special contracts. As Michael puts

it: My work speaks for itself. He treats present problems

    with methods that are environ-

mentally friendly. Im as close to

organic as I can be, he said.

    Among the services are aeration,

    seeding, fertilizing, weed control,

    insect control, liming, fungus con-

    trol, and IPM (integrated pest

    management). More detail about

    each service follows.

Aeration: To keep your lawnhealthy, it should be aerated at

least twice a year. The Royal

    Lawns aeration techniques allow

air, light, water and nutrients to

    penetrate your lawn, promoting

root growth and helping to decom-

    pose organically an excessive

    thatch layer more rapidly.

    Re-Seeding: Areas of the lawn

that have been damaged or neg-

lected can be renewed by re-seed-

    ing. We use quality disease-resist-

ant blends of bluegrass, fescue, and

    rye grasses especially selected for

    your lawns environment, improv-

ing the appearance and density of

your turf. This, in turn, helps

    inhibit weed growth, said

    Michael.

    Fertilizer (granular): A thriving

    lawn requires properly timed appli-

    cations of complete, balanced,

    slow-release fertilizers to replace

To my loyal Life andLeisure readers, I was

    cleaning up some

    saved emails and found some

    interesting tidbits that I

    thought would be good to

    share in my column before

    hitting the delete button. I

hope you take them in the

proper spirit with a little grinand laugh, within the insight

    of the messages.

    Governmentium discov-

    ered... A major research

    institution has recently

    announced the discovery of

    the heaviest element yet

    known to science. The new

    element has been namedGovernmentium. Govern-

    mentium has one neutron, 12

    assistant neutrons, 75 deputy

    neutrons, and 224 assistant

    deputy neutrons, giving it an

    atomic mass of 312.

    These 312 particles are

    held together by forces called

morons, which are surroundedby vast quantities of particles

    called peons.

    Since Governmentium

has no electrons, it is inert.

    However, it can be detected,

    because it impedes every reac-

tion with which it comes into

    contact.

A minute amount ofGovernmentium causes one

reaction to take over four days

    to complete, when it would

normally take less than a sec-

    ond.

    Governmentium has a

normal half-life of 4 years; it

    does not decay, but instead

    undergoes a reorganization in

which a portion of the assis-

    tant neutrons and deputy neu-

    trons exchange places.In fact, Governmen-

    tiums mass will actually

    increase over time, since each

    reorganization will cause more

    morons to become neutrons,

    forming isodopes.

    This characteristic of

    moron promotion leads some

    scientists to believe that

    Governmentium is formed

    whenever morons reach a cer-

tain quantity in concentra-tion. This hypothetical quan-

tity is referred to as Critical

    Morass. When catalyzed with

    money, Governmentium

    becomes Administratium - an

    element which radiates just as

    much energy as the

    Governmen-tium since it has

half as many peons, but twice

    as many morons. And this

ends the science part of our

    column today.On the economic front,

    Its a recession when your

neighbor loses his job; its a

    depression when you lose

    yours. Harry S Truman,

who also said, I have found

the best way to give advice to

your children is to find out

    what they want and then

    advise them to do it.

    In mass transit news,

Will Rogers said, Even if you

are on the right track, you will

get run over if you just sit

    there.

    Commenting on a past

political gathering, this inter-esting prayer was given a few

years back in Kansas at one

    opening session of their

    Senate. It seems prayer still

    upsets some people. When

    Minister Joe Wright was asked

    to open the new session,

    everyone was expecting the

    usual generalities, but, this is

    what they heard:

    Heavenly Father, we

come before you today to askyour forgiveness and to seek

    your direction and guidance.

    We know Your Word says,

Woe to those who call evil

good, but that is exactly what

we have done. We have lost

    our spiritual equilibrium and

    reversed our values. We have

    exploited the poor and called

    it the lottery. We have

    rewarded laziness and called it

welfare. We have killed ourunborn and called it choice.

    We have shot abortionists and

    called it justifiable. We have

    neglected to discipline our

    children and called it building

    self-esteem. We have abused

    power and called it politics.

    We have coveted our neigh-

    bors possessions and called it

ambition. We have pollutedthe air with profanity and

    pornography and called it

    freedom of expression. We

    have ridiculed the time-hon-

    ored values of our forefathers

    and called it enlightenment.

    Search us, Oh, God, and

    know our hearts today;

cleanse us from every sin and

    set us free. Amen!

    The response was imme-

diate. A number of legislatorswalked out during the prayer

in protest. In 6 short weeks,

    Central Christian Church,

    where Rev. Wright is pastor,

    logged more than 5,000 phone

calls with only 47 of those

    calls responding negatively.

    The church received interna-

    tional requests for copies of

    this prayer from India, Africa

    and Korea. Commentator

Paul Harvey aired this prayeron his radio program, The

    Rest of the Story and

    received a larger response to

    this program than any other

    he had ever aired.

    Let me close with quotes

from two of my favorite teach-

    ers/speakers/motivational

    writers and successful

    Americans. Earl Nightingale

    said, People with goals suc-

ceed, because they knowwhere they are going... its as

    simple as that. And Napoleon

    Hill whose philosophies, if

    edited down to one sentence

    preached, There is one quality

that one must possess to win,

and that is definiteness of pur-

    pose, the knowledge of what

one wants, and a burning desire

    to possess it.

    Folks, may you achieve

everything you desire in exactproportion to the extent you

are willing to work to achieve

it and to financially follow the

    essential nutrients taken from

the soil. The fertilizers used by

    Royal Lawns are designed to

feed your lawn from one service

to the next, and there is nosurge growth or burning just

    steady greening and a thicker,

    more beautiful lawn.

    Liming: The application of

    lime increases the granulation

    of soil, improving its physical

    structure and air-to-water ratio,

    helping your lawn tolerate

    drought conditions. Liming

    increases the availability of

    many plant nutrients, making

    fertilizers more effective and

helping to reduce weeds by cre-

ating conditions more favor-able to grass growth.

    Fungus control: Since fungus

    problems are derived mostly

    from weather conditions,

    maintaining a strong lawn

    through treatment, watering

    and proper mowing makes

    your lawn more naturally

    resistant to fungus problems.

    However, in appropriate con-

ditions, fungicides may beused to help reduce damage

    caused by cell deterioration

    IPM: The most serious threats

to a beautiful lawn are weeds,

    disease and insects. Because of

the variety and the diversity of

    appropriate treatments, they

    are most difficult to control.

    Royal Lawns provides expert

weed and pest controls, usingonly Environment Protection

    Agency approved materials

    that are scientifically tested to

    be effective. Being concerned

    with the environment, Royal

    Lawns uses only minimal

    amounts where needed to

    maintain control.

    An article in Januarys

    issue of General

    Dentistry indicates

that obesity may be a risk factorfor gum disease.

    The correlation stems

from the fact that obese people

    produce a higher level of

    cytokines, which are proteins

    with inflammatory properties.

    These proteins then injure the

gum tissues or lower blood flow

to the gums, making way for

    gum disease.

    Half of all Americans 30

or older are impacted by gumdisease. Gum disease also pro-

duces a high level of cytokines,

resulting in a larger amount of

inflammatory proteins in thebloodstream. Gum disease

    eventually initiates other

    inflammatory diseases through-

out the body. There are many

    studies relating gum disease to

    cardiovascular disease, heart

    disease, diabetes, arthritis and

    others.

    Visiting the dentist on a

regular basis is the best way to

detect gum disease or to deter-

mine whether you are at ahigher risk for the disease.

    Removing plaque by brushing,

    flossing and mouth-rinsing will

    also aid in prevention.

If kids had their way, pizza,

    chicken fingers and

    french fries would make

    up a significant portion of

    their diets. But par-

    ents know they must

    make kids culinary

choices for them soyoungsters get all of

    the vitamins and

    nutrients they need

    to grow up strong and

    healthy.

    Parents also

    tend to know how

    difficult it can be to

    convince kids to

    embrace healthy eat-

    ing. Healthy eating

habits can help kidslive healthier lives

    and perform better in

    the classroom while

    setting them up for a

    lifetime of making the right

    choices at mealtime. Though

    encouraging kids to eat

    healthy may not always be

easy, the following are a few

tips for parents hoping to fos-

    ter healthy eating habits in

    their children.

    Stick to a schedule. Parents

    should establish a regular eat-

    ing schedule, for both meals

and snacks, so kids learn the

    importance of not skipping

meals. Kids who learn to eat

    at regular intervals are more

likely to continue doing so as

    they grow older. When kids

stick to a meal schedule, theyare less likely to overeat and

    theyre likely to have more

    energy throughout the day,

    which should help them stay

    attentive at school and be

    more engaged in their

    extracurricular activities.

    Involve kids when choosing

    the menu. Kids might be

    more excited about eating

    healthy when you involve

    them in choosing the

    menu. Invite them along

    on trips to the grocery

    store and allow them to

    choose one of their

    favorite foods for the

    meal in exchange for eat-

    ing the healthy fare you

    have chosen. Parents may

end up eating a lot of side

    dishes of macaroni and

    cheese, but their young-

sters will also end up eat-

    ing their vegetables.

    Plan healthy desserts.

Dessert is often consid-ered an unhealthy indul-

    gence, but theres plenty

    of nutritious desserts that

    are so delicious kids likely

    will not realize theyre eating

    healthy. A dessert of fresh

fruit and a small serving of

    yogurt can provide the same

    post-meal refreshment as ice

cream or cake, but it does so

    with much fewer calories and

a lot more nutrients and vita-mins. Whats more, kids will

come to look at dessert as a

    chance to eat fresh fruits

    instead of an opportunity to

load up on ice cream or other,

    less healthy alternatives.

    Serve healthy portions.

    Sometimes its not just what

is on the plate but how much

is on the plate that can be

    healthy or unhealthy. When

    doling out portions for the

    family, create healthy por-

tions so kids are not encour-

    aged to overeat. Kids who

    grow up eating healthy por-

tions are more likely to con-

    tinue doing so into adult-

    hood. Overeating is one of

    the culprits behind being

    overweight and obese, so kids

    who learn to control their

    portions are much less likely

    to overeat and gain excess

    weight.

    Dont reward kids with food.

    Some parents try to reward

    youngsters with food, allow-

    ing kids to indulge in

    unhealthy fare in acknowl-

    edgement of a good report

    card or something else kids

should be proud of. But using

food as a reward is an

    unhealthy eating habit that

    can lead to problems down

    the road as kids become

    adults responsible for their

    own eating habits.

    Set a positive example. Kids

are more likely to eat healthy

    when mom and dad are

    healthy eaters. If your first

choice at snack time is to

reach for a bag of potato

    chips, then dont be surprised

when your kids opt for chips

    over healthier fare like a

piece of fruit. Do as I say, not

as I do is a tough sell to

    youngsters when it comes to

    their eating habits, so parents

    should set a positive example

    for their kids

If you need more time to file

    your 2013 income tax

    return, you can get an

    extension and no explana-

    tion is necessary.

You may have a very good

    reason for wanting more time

    to file your 2013 individual

    income tax return. For

    instance, you might want to

    hold off funding a retirement

plan such as a Keogh or SEP

until you can save more money.

Perhaps youre waiting for a tax

form from a trust, a partnership

or an S corporation. Or maybe

    youve just been busy.

    It doesnt matter.

    Whatever the cause or motiva-

tion, you can usually put off fil-

ing for up to six months beyond

    April 15. That means you

    could have until October 15,

    2014 to finalize your return

    assuming you follow the rules.

Heres what you need to do:

    Estimate your total tax lia-

    bility for 2013, subtract what

    youve already paid in with-

    holding or estimated payments

and remit most or all of the bal-

    ance, and file an extension

    request form (generally Form

    4868 for an individual return)

    by April 15.

    You can file the extension

    request form electronically, by

    Whether youre ac-

    quiring a new

    puppy or kitten for

    your household or adopting an

adult pet from a shelter or res-

    cue organization, the follow-

ing tips will help you get off on

the right foot with your newest

    family member.

    Doctor visits. Just as you

    require regular visits to your

    doctor and dentist to make

sure you stay healthy, so does

    your new pet. A veterinary

    visit should be a once-a-year

    event, minimum, and more

    frequent check-ups may be

    needed depending on your

    pets age and health status.

    Regular visits are likely to

    include a thorough exam,

    weigh-in, immunizations and

    parasite checks (a heartworm

    test and fecal exam). Blood

    tests and dental cleanings are

    also routine procedures.

    Healthy eating. Your new pet

may be eyeing your plate with

interest, but dont give in. Pets

    shouldnt eat like people. Cats

    are carnivores; they need plen-

ty of protein in their diets

    roughly twice the percentage

that you do and they need

it in the form of meat, poultry

or fish. And while your dog,

like you, is an omnivore, that

    doesnt mean he should share

    your meals. A food formulated

especially for dogs is much bet-

ter and treats should make up

no more than 10 percent of a

    dogs caloric intake.

    Parasite prevention. Youve

    probably heard of pests like

    heartworms, intestinal para-

sites, fleas and ticks but under-

    standing how and when to

    prevent them is a different

    matter. Dogs and cats can

    become infected with heart-

    worms, although the resulting

    disease differs somewhat

    between the two species.

    Heartworm disease can be

deadly, or it can reduce the

quality of life of both dogs and

    cats. Mosquitoes spread heart-

worms, and dogs and cats need

    to be protected year-round,

    thanks to the mosquitos abili-

ty to survive in a variety of

    environments. A bonus is that

    many heartworm preventives

    also protect pets against other

    internal parasites. For more

    information on how to protect

    your new pet against heart-

    worms and other parasites,

    talk to your veterinarian and

    visit the American

    Heartworm society website at

    www.heartwormsociety.org.

    Bathing. Most of us wouldnt

dream of letting a day go by

without a shower or bath. But

    daily bathing is unnecessary

for pets and can dry out their

skin and hair. Most dogs are

fine with a bath every three

    months, unless they get extra

dirty or have silky hair. Cats

    usually keep themselves clean

    without any help although

    brushing long-haired cats on a

regular basis is advised to keep

    their fur tangle-free and help

    prevent hairballs.

    Making a connection. Dogs

and cats relate to their owners

in different ways. As a pack

    animal, dogs expect you to

lead their pack and give them

    rules to follow. Dogs make

    faces in fact, its estimated

    that they have 100 different

    facial expressions, thanks to

    their mobile ears. Cats attach

to their people as social part-

    ners and use affectionate

    behaviors, such as purring,

    kneading and rubbing against

    you to show their affection.

    Theyre also quite vocally

    expressive and can produce

    more than 100 different

    sounds.

    Sleep habits. While cats have

    a reputation for dozing, both

cats and dogs spend more than

half their time in slumber. Like

    babies, puppies and kittens

    sleep more than adults,

    although their sleep patterns

can be erratic. Keep in mind

    that excessive sleeping can be

a sign of boredom. Most pets

will be glad to forego a nap for

    playtime or a walk.

    Bringing a pet into your

home is one of the greatest

joys in life, but it means new

    responsibilities. Understand-

ing your pets behavior, as well

as the dos and donts of pet

    health care, will help make

your bond with your pet a last-

    ing one.

    Home Health Care

    allows one to

    receive quality indi-

    vidualized services in the

    comfort of their home.

    Recipients of home health

    care include the elderly,

    those living with an illness,

    and those recovering from an

    accident or surgery. More

    families are choosing home

care as the preferred way of

care for their loved ones for

    various reasons:

    1. It is delivered at home.

    There are positive feelings

that all of us associate with

being home. Our home is our

    castle, our refuge from the

    storm. Whether were feeling

sick or well, we enjoy the

    sanctity of our residences and

the joy of being with our

    loved ones.

    2. It provides the elderly

    with a sense of independ-

    ence. None wants to feel

    totally dependent or helpless.

    With some assistance, seniors

    receiving home care can con-

    tinue to function as viable

    members of society.

    3. Home care can be safer.

    Statistics show it is not

    uncommon for patients to

    develop new health problems

or risk infection as a result of

    being hospitalized. Some of

    these risks are eliminated

when care is given at home.

    4. Home care allows the

    maximum amount of freedom

    for the individual. A hospital

or nursing home can be a reg-

    imented, regulated environ-

    ment. Upon admission to

    either, an individual is

    required to surrender a signif-

    icant portion of his rights.

    Such sacrifices are not

    required with home care

    where flexibility is key.

    5. Home care is personalized.

Home care is tailored to the

needs of each individual. It is

    delivered on a one-to-one

    basis and involves the indi-

vidual and the family in the

    care that is delivered.

    6. Home care is less expen-

sive than other forms of care.

    Home care costs only one-

    tenth as much as hospitaliza-

    tion and one-fourth as much

    as nursing home placement.

    By bringing health services

    home, the patient also does

    not generate additional

    board and room expenses.

    Significant snowfall com-

    bined with melting and

    re-freezing, which New

    Jersey residents are all too

    familiar with can create roof

    damage. Even the most high-

    quality roofing material can be

    adversely impacted by severe

    snow accumulation, wind,

    pooling water and ice buildup.

    To avoid wet and expen-

sive damage to your roof after

    this winter, its important to

    educate yourself and take

    immediate action to save cost-

    ly, time-consuming damage to

    your home. Dont let winter

    ruin your roof!

    What is an ice dam?

    Ice dams form when snow

sits on the roof for a period of

time and goes through a melt

    and freeze sequence. As the

snow is melted by poor venti-

    lation and the introduction of

    heat from the occupied floor

    below (lighting, air leaks,

    ductwork, etc.) the water runs

    between the snow and the

    warm roof surface.

    When the water gets past

    the exterior higher walls and

hits a cold unheated roof edges

or gutters it freezes and turns

into ice. As the snow and ice

    accumulation continues it cre-

ates larger and larger ice dams.

    Ice dam damage

    If this situation contin-

ues, the ice expands and works

its way back up the roof edge,

    gets under shingles, melts and

    leaks into the exterior walls,

home or attic. The roof actu-

ally leaks the whole time snow

is melting, not just at the end

of the snow melt. The water

that melts under snow can find

    its ways into roofing system

    more easily then a steady,

    heavy rain.

    Damage from ice dams

    may not be immediately visi-

ble. As the ice melts and slow-

ly leaks into the attic or walls,

    insulation can become wet,

    damaged and mold may begin

weather allows it. The mosteffective long term solution is

    to reduce or eliminate any

sources of heat in the attic,

ventilate the attic space of the

roof properly and as simple as

    it sounds keep gutters and

    vents clean from the debris.

Be sure to have bath fans,

kitchen fans and 2nd floor dry-

    ers terminate at walls not

    roofs.

Eliminate or fix: uninsu-lated recessed ceiling lights,

    poor attic ventilation, uninsu-

    lated folding attic stair open-

    ings, heating ducts, furnace or

    water heating equipment in

    the attic and other similar

    problems.

    Also keep your eyes for

    peeled shingle granules which

are a clear sign of serious wear

    and tear. They might indicate

    Dining out at a restau-

rant is a treat for manypeople, while for oth-

    ers it's a way of life. On-the-go

    professionals often find that

dining out is simply more con-

    venient than cooking at home.

    However, large portion sizes

and dishes that tend to contain

a lot of sodium and fat can

    make dining out less healthy

than eating at home, which is a

    concern for those men and

women who want to shed a fewpounds.

    But dining out does not

have to be done at the expense

    of your waistline. The follow-

ing are a few ways dieters can

    still enjoy their favorite restau-

    rants without having to worry

    about their weight.

    Order foods that are broiled,

    boiled or roasted. Foods that

are broiled, boiled or roastedtend to be healthier than

    foods cooked in other ways.

    When ordering your meal, ask

that oils be used sparingly if

    not removed completely.

    When foods look somewhat

greasy, dab them with a nap-

kin in the same manner you

might dab the grease from a

    slice of pizza.

Don't fill up before yourmeal arrives. Once you have

    been seated, skip the unend-

    ing bread basket, forgoing this

    free appetizer altogether or

    asking for raw vegetables

    instead. When fellow diners

    order potentially fattening

appetizers, ask to have a sidesalad with low-fat dressing on

    the side instead.

    Leave a little behind on

    your plate. Restaurant por-

    tions can be substantial, so

don't feel as if you need to fin-

ish your entire meal. You can

always ask the waiter to pack

up what you have left behind,

or, when ordering, ask if the

restaurant offers smaller por-tions at lower prices.

    Skip the dips and dressings.

    Many condiments can add

    unwanted calories to a meal,

    making even a healthy entree

    a calorie-laden meal that's

    best avoided. For example, a

    salad covered in creamy

    Caesar salad dressing can take

    away from the overall nutri-

tive value of the salad. Don'tbe afraid to ask for substitu-

tions or simply ask to have

dressings put on the side so if

you must indulge you can do

    so without going overboard.

Eat in the hours leading up

    to your dinner. Low-fat snacks

    eaten throughout the day will

reduce the likelihood that youwill overeat at the dinner

table. Drink a tall glass of

    water and enjoy some low-

calorie fruit so you won't be

    famished once you arrive at

    the restaurant.

    Avoid buffet-style restau-

    rants. Many people cannot

    help but overeat at buffet-

    style restaurants, where the

size of a typical spread canmake it hard for dieters to stay

disciplined. If you must eat at

    a buffet-style restaurant,

    choose healthy fare like salad

    and steamed vegetables.

    Look for a low-calorie menu.

    Many restaurants now supple-

    ment their existing menus with

a menu of low-calorie fare for

    those customers who want to

eat out but want to do so with-out abandoning their diets.

    When visiting a restaurant,

stick to ordering from the low-

    calorie section of the menu.

The food will likely be just as

    delicious, though not as dense

    or as large.

    The popularity of Thai

    food in North America

    continues to rise. But

even the most devoted of Thai

food fans may not know how

easy it can be to prepare their

    favorite Thai foods at home.

Fried rice is one of the more

popular Thai dishes that can be

easily cooked up from the com-

fort of your own kitchen. Thosewho want to try their hand at

Thai cuisine can use the fol-

    lowing recipe for Pineapple

    Fried Rice courtesy of Katie

    Chins Everyday Thai

    Cooking (Tuttle).

    Pineapple Fried Rice

    Serves 4 to 6 as a side

    1 whole pineapple

    2 large eggs

    1 teaspoon salt, divided

    2 tablespoons high-heat cooking

    oil, divided

    1 garlic clove, minced

    1 small shallot, finely sliced

1 fresh hot red or green chili,

    preferably Thai (deseeded if you

    prefer less heat), finely sliced

3 cups cooked and chilled Thai

    jasmine rice

    2 tablespoons fish sauce

    1 tablespoon soy sauce

    1 cup cubed cooked chicken

    breast

    1 cup cubed cooked shrimp

    In 2012, hundreds of miles

    of coastline along thenortheastern United

    States were battered and deci-

    mated due to Hurricane

    Sandy. Many homeowners are

    still dealing with the conse-

    quences of the devastating

    storm.

    Hurricane Sandy illus-

    trated just how destructive

    water can be. Each year,

    storms across North America

have the potential to floodhomes or cause water to enter

    the basement or first floor.

    According to the National

    Flood Insurance Program, a

mere six inches of water in a

2,000 square foot home cancause around $40,000 in dam-

    age. Homeowners looking to

    avoid such damages can rely

    on sump pumps and backup

    emergency systems to keep

    sublevels dry and safe.

    Sump pumps are fre-

quently used in homes at risk

of flooding or in homes where

the water table is above the

    foundation of the home.

Sump pumps remove waterthat has accumulated in a

    water collecting sump basin

    built into the foundation of

    the home. Water may enter

    through perimeter drains

(French drains) built into thebasement or directly through

    the sump basin itself. The

    pump will send the water

    away from the house through

a series of pipes that coulddrain into a dry well, into a

    municipal storm drain or at

    the curb.

    Many sump pumps are

    hard-wired into a homes elec-

    trical system and will auto-

    matically turn on when the

water level in the sump basin

has risen enough to trigger the

    pump. A flotation device built

    into the pump will rise

enough to turn on the pump, which will then dispel the

    water until the device returns

    to its regular level.

    When operating correct-

ly, sump pumps are effective at

removing water and keepingbasements and crawl spaces

dry. However, in the event of

a power outage, which is com-

    mon when strong winds

    accompany flooding rains, a

    sump pump is rendered useless

unless there is a backup bat-

    tery attached to the sump

    pump.

    Having a battery hooked

up to a sump pump, or a back-

up sump pump that is battery-powered, can give homeown-

ers peace of mind in any

    storm. A backup plan ensures

the pump will still be able to

    remove water for a certain

period of time until electricityis restored to the home.

    Another option is to make

sure the sump pump is con-

    nected to a power generator

    should the main power supply

go out. As long as the genera-

tor is running, the sump pump

    will expel the water.

    Water damage to a home

    can cost thousands of dollars

    in repairs, particularly when it

is not covered by standardhome insurance policies.

    Sump pumps can help keep

    homes dry and safe.
