Funded by Your Bromley to support our night time economy, two pairs of Night Ambassadors patrol our town centre’s busiest streets in evenings at the weekend.

On Fridays and Saturdays from 20:30 to 04:30, we can be certain that our streets are safer for people enjoying the theatre, restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs than most other outer London town centres. They are SIA qualifi ed and have been specially selected for their customer service and calmness. They carry Shop Safe Radios and will assist venues with dispersal at closing times.

The council has produced its fi nal layout of market stalls, showing that most hot food stalls will be located in the area between Barclays Bank and Primark.

Brand new market stalls have arrived and are being readied for use while the new anchor points are due to be installed on the High Street imminently. The electrics for the main centre section should be completed within the next few weeks and the planned relocation of the market is due to occur shortly after this.

As for semi-permanent kiosks - previously the proposal was for four pairs of kiosks totalling eight units. The council has reduced this to two pairs totalling four units. A planning application for the structures will be submitted at the end of July 2018 with installation scheduled for spring 2019.

Changes have been made partly to accommodate the increased number of pop-up market stalls approved by the Council at planning in February 2018.

THE STREET MARKETAND ITS MOVE TO MARKET SQUARE

Some changes to the original plans for the refl ective canopies and commercial units are:

• The single planter at the junction with Elmfi eld Road will be split into two planters to avoid underground services and to provide more pedestrian protection from vehicles.

• The canopy at the Elmfi eld Road end of the High Street has been relocated north to approximately outside Subway and will be a single large petal, and not three. This location has been considered more benefi cial to nearby cafés and restaurants.

• A commercial unit will be installed between the canopy and the planters adjoining Elmfi eld Road.

• A smaller canopy will be located outside the former Virgin Media unit with a commercial unit to the north of it.

Operation Gemini (additional policing) returns to Bromley town centre in time for the summer school holidays.

The additional policing that many of you told us you valued so much last December and during the Easter school holidays will be returning Wednesdays to Saturdays during the summer holidays. Funded by Your Bromley, the hours will be from noon to 20:00 on Wednesdays to Saturdays inclusive and will bring an additional four offi cers/PCSOs to the town. They will carry and respond to Shop Safe radios and will patrol the area, particularly near the shops who experience the most shoplifting. Operation Gemini will run from Wednesday 25th July to Saturday 1st September.

Your Bromley arranged for the weeding and planting of a ‘pocket park’ in the alley between High Street and Elmfi eld Park, at the side of Over The Moon Café.

Following scaffolding being erected on top of it for several weeks after Easter, it now needs some weeding and more planting so that there’s a suitably vibrant and leafy display for people to enjoy on their way to and from work. If you’d like to help us with this, please get in touch by emailing [email protected].

Your Bromley will supply tools, gloves, bags for the waste and plants/seeds. We are happy to restock with plants and bulbs and also happy to purchase what’s wanted by gardening club members. We look forward to meeting employees wearing trousers and shoes they don’t mind getting a little dirty/torn. Green fi ngers not necessary, just half an hour or so of your lunch-time to turn an eyesore into a haven!

If your business premises are nearby and you could help with providing water and/or storage of a few garden tools, we’d love to hear from you.

Our next team event will be a quiz night on 16th October. The winning team will win a £40 voucher towards a team lunch in a levy paying café or restaurant of their choice. We’ll be raising funds for Bromley Community Fund.

Metro Bank won the inter business Bowling Competition at the Pavilion Leisure Centre in June and will soon be enjoying their team lunch prize. In addition, the total entry fees of £110 were donated to the Royal British Legion’s ‘Thank You’ campaign marking the centenary of the end of the First World War.

A GARDENING CLUB FOR BROMLEY EMPLOYEES

TUESDAYS 12.30PM TO 1.30PM UNTIL END OF AUGUST

Despite 2018 being a very tough year for retail, Bromley town centre is not short of businesses coming in to the town centre.

A brand new Travelodge has recently opened up in the town centre (The Mall); a Jack Wills branch will open soon in The Glades, while Robert Dyas and a new Lidl will soon open within the town centre.

The opening of St Mark’s Square, expected by September, will bring a new public square including nine restaurants, a hotel and a nine screen VUE cinema with reclining seats to the town centre. The restoration to its former Art Deco glory of the cinema in Bromley North Village, with six screens, will complete in early 2019. Both cinemas are expected to increase footfall signifi cantly, particularly during school holidays and in the evenings. And fi nally, proposals are being made for the longstanding vacant units formerly occupied by Mascots and the Royal Bell in High Street/Bromley North Village.
