Survey Items

NEDO’s Feasibility Studies with the Aim of Developing a Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)

Country:Indonesia Sector :Transportation

Survey in Summary

1. The state of Indonesia’s cement shipping

2. GHG reduction Potential under the support system

3. Methodology and evaluation of GHG reduction

4. Feasibility study and institutional regime

○ Indonesia (PT.IBT)

○ Indonesian domestic sea area

In Indonesia, where the shipping transport demand is increasing with the nation’s economic growth, diffusion of Japanese Eco-Shipping support system will contribute to reduce CO2 emission to promote

the efficiency and the modal shift from land transportation.

To estimate fuel consumption, using Eco-Shippingsupport system for a period.

Approx.10% CO2 emission will be reduced byvelocity planning. This plan will introduce the

optimum voyage based on weather forecast

data. (Same measurement and monitoring

method with the baseline settings are used.)

Issues from the experiments

NEDO’s Feasibility Studies with the Aim of Developing a Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)

Country:Indonesia Sector :Transportation

1. Ship’s speed is mainly affected by tide & current. Weather conditions (wind and

wave) are calm in Indonesia.

2. MRV methodology is required redundancy. It is not always able to get time history

data correctly.

3. User-friendly is required for the system. Individual skill levels of crews are quite

different.

4. Eco-Shipping basic concept ‘the idea of riding on an ocean current and sailing a

ship’ has never been popular.

5. ‘Ship speed planning’ is the most important. Potential of the change routing is a little

in terms of the safety navigation perspective (especially for in the maraca strait).

◆Public berth’s management is based on First Come First Serve basis.◆Usage range of main engine’s RPM is narrow, because age of vessel is old.

6. Simplified measurement system is required. There is much equipment to treat

for the measurements.22
