History • Twentieth Century Fox is one of the six major American film studios today. It

is located in the Century City area of Los Angeles, near west side of Beverly Hills. Twentieth Century Fox is a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s news corporation.

• Twentieth Century Fox was founded on May 31st 1935 as the result of the merger of Fox Film Corporation, which was founded by William Fox in 1915 and Twentieth Century Pictures, which was founded in 1933 by Darryl F. Zanuck , Joseph Schenck, Raymond Griffith and William Goetz.

• Twentieth Century Fox most popular film franchises include Avatar, Star Wars, Ice Age, Garfield , Alvin and the Chipmunks, X-Man , Die Hard, Alien, Speed, Revenge of the Nerds, Plant of the Apes, Home Alone, Dr. Dolittle, Night at the Museum, Predator, Diary of Wimpy Kid and the Beach.

• Twentieth Century Fox are also famous for TV shows such as The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad

• In addition Twentieth Century Fox also produced famous actors and actress for example Shirley Temple was one of the first film star for Twentieth Century Fox

What technology was used?

• In Avatar a number of Visual Effects techniques was used in the production • For example director James Cameron planned to use photorealistic computer-

generated characters, created using new Motion- Capture animation technologies , which he had been developing

• James Cameron new innovations include a new system for lighting massive such as the Pandora’s jungle with a Motion-Capture Stage

• As well as an improved method of capturing facial expressions, which enabling full performance capture. In order to achieve the face capturing, therefore actors wore individually made Skull Caps fitted with a tiny camera positioned in front of the actor’s faces which then was collected and transmitted to computers

• This method according to James Cameron allows filmmakers to transfer 100% of actors physical performances to their digital counterparts

• Other technology used in Avatar are Pace Fusion 3D, Fusion Camera( dual-3-D) and CGI

Unconventional• The technology used to make Avatar was newly developed• Avatar’s storyline brings a new way of experiencing movie to the

audience since their is no books or products that is based on Avatar, therefore Avatar brings a fresh movie to the audience

• None famous actors or actress’s were used in the movie which is unconventional since most movies have a well known actor or actress to draw audience into the movie
