Welcome Welcome to this International Student Guide. Making the decision to study overseas, and choosing the right university, is a big decision. Since its beginnings in the 1970s, Griffith has had a strong focus on internationalisation and is privileged to host students from over 130 different countries. Both Brisbane and the Gold Coast, home to five diverse Griffith University campuses, offer students a great introduction to the renowned Australian lifestyle. In addition, the Gold Coast has hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2018, and our Gold Coast campus is right in the heart of all the action, with the Games Village across the road. With a move to trimesters in 2017, a renewed focus on graduate employability throughout our academic programs, and a number of extra curricula opportunities available, there has never been a better time to study at Griffith. Choosing to study in another country is a big decision, and I hope that this Guide provides you with the information you need, as well as a taste of all the support available to you once you get here. Having been an international student myself, I am well aware of the life changing impact that studying overseas can have. Good luck with making your choice, and I hope that we have the chance to welcome you to Griffith University.

Student support

“Coming to Australia was very thrilling and scary, but as soon as I landed, coming to Griffith University was very smooth. I started with intermediate English skills, so the service offered by Griffith University called EnglishHELP really helped me to improve. I could book this service every week and they were qualified staff who are really supportive to international students.”

Recognition/AccreditationIn Australia, professional accreditation of entry to practice engineering programs is the responsibility of Engineers Australia and is normally carried out on a five-yearly cycle. Griffith University underwent this review in August 2015.Accreditation ensures academic institutions consistently meet national and international benchmarks and engineering graduates of an accredited program are assured membership with Engineers Australia at the relevant career grade and enjoy reciprocal privileges by equivalent professional bodies overseas.Countries such as the USA, United Kingdom, Hong Kong (SAR), New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and others that are co-signatories to international agreements on joint recognition offer international recognition. The Washington Accord, the Sydney Accord and the Dublin Accord recognise the substantial equivalence of accreditation systems and accredited programs across international boundaries at the Professional Engineer, Engineering Technologist and Engineering Associate levels respectively. Please refer to the International Engineering Alliance (IEA) website for more details.
