1. Position overview

This position will play a critical role in conducting and interpreting ACSF assessments and contributing to the development of Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills within the Army Pre-Recruit and Reserve cohorts. Detailed Statement of Key Responsibilities and Performance Standards

Domains of Work - Lecturer B

1.1 Teaching Conduct effective pre and post training ACSF assessments of Army pre-recruit and reserve

trainees. Delivery of Certificate I and II in Foundation Skills through flexible, innovative and IT based

strategies. Develop appropriate teaching materials which respond to clients learning needs. In particular,

provide specialist technical knowledge and input into the development of army workplace English language, literacy and numeracy programs.

Provide training aligned to military examples ie; map grid references.

Prepare training plans, application and enrolment forms and associated resources required for the effective and efficient delivery of assessment and courses.

Maintain student records as required; report progress of students to the division required by NVR standards (ASQA)

Undertake basic administrative tasks required of all Batchelor Institute staff in relation to course delivery.

Develop strong relationships with stakeholders and students to support learning and consult and counsel students on academic progress.

Maintain professional development particularly in the area of foundation skills development and integration into vocational training programs.

Other duties within the range of skills normally associated with this designation as directed by the Director VET Business Operations.

1.2 Assessment Demonstrate understanding of the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence. Contribute to the development of assessment tools, or modify existing ones, to suit learner

needs and specified context. Employ a range of methods to ensure principles of assessment and rules of evidence are met

in assessment processes and decisions. Participate in assessment validation processes.

1.3 Industry and Community Engagement Liaise with enterprises and community to ensure teaching and assessment reflects current

industry practices and community values and aspirations. Participate in enterprise and community networks to enhance own knowledge and skills. Maintain vocational competency relevant to own subject area; keep up to date with industry

changes; participate in relevant industry and community events/networks/consultation. Contextualise program content and adapt teaching practices to suit specified enterprise needs

and community values and aspirations.

1.4 Systems and Compliance Develop own knowledge of key stakeholders such as ASQA and NT and state training authorities,

relevant training advisory councils, skills services organisations, and licensing bodies. Use current training packages and accredited courses, and supporting tools and resources, to

support training and assessment practices. Ensure work practice comply with Batchelor Institute policies and procedures; maintain accurate

and up-to-date records; use Batchelor Institute electronic systems.

1.5 Both Ways Cultural Competence Interact effectively with learners from a variety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures;

respect and value difference; identify Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) requirements and seek guidance, including from appropriate Aboriginal advisors, where required to meet learner needs.

1.6 Evidence Based Practice and Research Access and utilise information and research sources about VET practice and the VET sector

as appropriate to teaching level and industry area.

2. Essential selection criteria

Applicants must demonstrate they are able to undertake the responsibilities of the position as contained in the position overview and are able to meet the following Key Selection Criteria:

2.1 Qualifications and Licensing The minimum vocational teaching qualification Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

TAE40116 (or successor, Diploma or higher-level qualification in Adult Education or the ability to acquire TAE40116 within 8 months of commencement, and;

have completed the following equivalent:- TAESS00009 Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice Skill Set; or

A higher-level education qualification, such as;- TAE80113 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice (and its

equivalent TAE70111); or- Batchelor of Education, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Education, or higher.

This may include qualifications relating to TESOL, adult education or vocational education.

2.2 Domains of Work

Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in Vocational Education and Training, including managing student progression that will enable vocational training and education programs in the relevant teaching areas to be researched, prepared, delivered, assessed, evaluated and administered in a variety of contexts, including remote contexts and workplace delivery, with reference to the above Domains of Work requirements.

2.3 Work Skills

Demonstrated personal and interpersonal skills for working effectively as a team member to achieve outcomes within an Aboriginal Vocational and Training contexts as per the above Skill Areas requirements.

2.4 Working with Aboriginal people

Knowledge of the social, political, historical and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as relevant to Vocational Education and Training, and demonstrated capacity to work effectively and communicate appropriately with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, communities, organisations and staff members.

2.5 VET Management and Administration

Demonstrated understanding of and ability to comply with VET management and administration policies, procedures and business rules

2.6 NT Context Must be able to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory by land, sea and air (eg. in a

light aircraft), possess a Northern Territory ‘C’ class driver’s licence with experience driving on unformed roads, and be prepared to stay in a range of accommodation and in various environmental settings available to the Batchelor Institute staff.

Must have working with children card (OCHRE card). Possess a Current criminal history check or the ability to obtain one. Must have the ability to obtain Defence security clearance.
