KNO HOLDS BARREDODOMOCITY

By M A SadanandLast year’s world beauty, Dr. Manushi Chhillar, conquered

the male pupils of the world by mesmerizing them enough tocrown her Miss World, 2017.

For every traffic-stopper, there are a hundred who glidepast unnoticed as the eye is faster and discriminatory. I readsomewhere recently that an average woman needs to endurehours of beauty treatments and makeup to become a glam-our-doll.

Legend has it that Queen Cleopatra used to bathe indonkey’s milk and soak in it for hours to maintain heralabaster complexion. Recently when I was in Bangalorewhere my daughter lives, I was aghast at the millions ofvampire mosquitoes which drained the poor bloodlessBangaloreans of the little trickle that runs in their veins. HereI began to notice that people had a different beauty regimen.Everyone who wanted to step out of the house would swathetheir faces, arms and legs with Odomos.

Reading about scores of people who succumbed to denguefever caused by these tiny vampires, one can understand theparanoia of the repellent-cream addicts. My olfactory senseswere inundated by the distinct smell of Odomos. At dusk, thecrackling of thousands of mosquitoes being electrocuted bythe ‘Made in China’ pest-control bats, desperately swung bythe unfortunate guards of apartment complexes in the vicin-ity, were not exactly music to the ears.

Now that there have been rumours that the governmentis toying with a piece of legislation that will restrict thenumber of guests that one can invite to a wedding or abanquet, I hope this can be extended to the number ofmosquitoes that can enter one’s home and feast upon theunwilling donors. Come May 12, I am willing to bet that peoplein Karnataka will not look to false promises about eradicatingcorruption, unemployment, poverty and contamination oflakes. The clear winner will be the party who promises toeradicate the most mosquitoes in its election manifesto!

Appeal to remove garbage bin outside BVSN SchoolSir, More than 20 physically and

mentally challenged students visit BVSNMurthy School for Special Children(Thambiah Road, AGS Colony,Ramakrishnapuram, West Mambalam)daily.

A Corporation garbage bin has beenplaced next to the entrance of the school. It often overflows with garbage andproduces a foul smell throughout the day.The unsanitary condition is harmful tothe students and the staff of the school.

A number of devotees attend Saibhajans and Ramana Bhakta Samjam held in the school on Saturdays and Sundays respectively.

Will the Corporation officials take immediate steps to shift the garbage bin to anotherlocation? Shreyas Narasimhan, West Mambalam

Resolve pending civic issuesSir, We, the residents of Division 136, which covers Gandhi Street, Ramachandran Street,

Cart Track Road, Wason Street, Jawaharlal Nehru Street, Mambalam High Road andMaharajapuram Santhanam Salai, have written to the Chennai Corporation Commissionerhighlighting several civic issues long pending due to the inaction of local officials.

In the letter, we have appealed for door-to-door collection of household waste from theresidents and implementation of solid waste management for source segregation of wastebefore handing it over to the garbage collector.

We are also facing problems created by stray cattle let loose by owners which dirty the streetsand pavements and cause nuisance to pedestrians and motorists.

The pavements are in a battered condition, and have not been re-laid despite several appealsto the Corporation. We have also appealed for regular fogging operations to control mosquitopopulation, and have also requested removal of the defunct transformer from Cart Track Roadas it is in a dilapidated condition.

We hope for immediate solution to the problems. R. Sivaramakrishnan (on behalf of theresidents of Div. 136), 7/11, Gandhi Street, T. Nagar, Ph: 2814 1022

Plea to mutual fund companiesSir, I am a senior citizen who has been living

in T. Nagar for many years.I invested in a mutual fund ten years back.

At the time of joining I gave a cheque drawn onCanara Bank, but have since closed thataccount. To my dismay, I found that gettingthe new bank details included in the mutualfund account was a big ordeal.

I had to get a statement from my old bankabout the closure, and another from the newbank about the new account, along with acancelled cheque leaf with my name printed onit. Further, they also wanted me to produce a6-month bank statement attested by the bankwith a letter to the effect that the new accountis operational.

Being very old, it was an ordeal to get theprocedure completed. I appeal to mutual fundcompanies to simplify the procedure. K.Vaidyanathan, Godsend Apartments,North Usman Road, T. Nagar, Ph: 28156891

Renovation of parks inneighbourhood.

Sir, For the residents of West Mambalam, especially children, Kittu Park in theneighbourhood is the only enjoyable retreat.Elders also enjoy morning and evening walksthere. Unfortunately, the park has remainedclosed for the past 6 months ostensibly forrenovation but no such work appears to begoing on there. The summer vacation forstudents will end in a month.

Jeeva Park in G. N. Chetty Road andNatesan Park in Venkatanarayan Road arealso under renovation. Should not theCorporation have taken up the work well inadvance and completed it before the summervacation? With no other avenue forentertainment, children have no other choicebut to be glued to TV, video games etc. TheCorporation seems to be neither interested norcapable of doing anything good for the residents.T.
