Friends of Boys Hope Girls Hope,

One of the highlights of my job is witnessing the growth of each of our scholars throughout

their time with Boys Hope Girls Hope. They truly become men and women with and for

others by the time they graduate high school. While they attend the same classes, have the

same friends and social circles, each one grows in their own unique way and leaves high

school having a strong sense of self. Every opportunity that Boys Hope Girls Hope offers

them makes them more confident in themselves and more confident in their futures.

Just as our scholars grow and develop, so too does our organization. In 2016, the Academy

program had the first class of graduates from Aurora Central High School. The 9 graduating

scholars were awarded over $430,000 in

scholarships and were accepted to 31

colleges and universities! It is our goal that

every class going forward will match or

exceed that number. And of course, more

high school graduates means more

collegians! With these 9 new graduates,

we have doubled the number of collegians

in the 2016-2017 school year.

Along with these incredible results, comes

the need for us to look forward and see how Boys Hope Girls Hope must adapt and grow

with our scholars as they become collegians. Next year, on top of raising money to fulfill all

of the college scholarships, we hope to add a collegian counselor to the BHGH staff. While

college acceptance is a critical part of our mission, our ultimate goal is to have all of our

scholars thrive in college, graduate with ease and positioned to enter the working world

with confidence.

Of course, Boys Hope Girls Hope could not provide the amazing wrap around services for

all our scholars without your help. We would not have the ability to serve more students

and families without the generous support of you - our partners, donors and volunteers.

Thank you! We look forward to a bright future!

Sincerely,

Mary Frances Tharp, Executive Director

Breaking The Cycle Of Poverty Through Education

Boys Hope Girls Hope provides a holistic poverty intervention for

young people with great need, and even greater determination. By

no fault of their own, some children are victims of desperate

circumstances— poverty, homelessness, neighborhood violence or

severe family stress. Yet, despite overwhelming odds, they

demonstrate an inspiring capacity and desire to excel, live their lives

to the fullest and set an example for others.

These are the phenomenal young people we serve. These young

people apply to be a part of our program based on their desire to

participate fully in BHGH opportunities and their capacity for our

academic and character-defining programming. All of our young

scholars want to go to college and create successful futures for

themselves. They partner with BHGH to gain access to the

academic resources, extracurricular opportunities, and mentor relationships that

can empower them to reach their goals.

BHGH utilizes an evidence-based program model. BHGH programs build upon

six consistent core elements:

Academic Excellence

Service and Community Engagement

Family-like Settings to Cultivate Youth Empowerment

Long-term and Comprehensive Programming

Faith-based Values

Voluntary Participant Commitment

Fundamental to all BHGH programs and at the heart of our work is a deep investment in

our scholars’ education, health and well-being, and a long-term commitment to them

personally. We firmly believe that our scholars, like all children, have the power to

overcome adversity, realize their potential, and help transform our world. Our role is to

help remove obstacles in their path, support and believe in them, and provide

environments and opportunities that build on their strengths.

You make that possible through your support of time, talent and treasure.

Thank You!
