URGENT MESSAGE FOR PARENTS!!
We have not received a few more students’ report cards
issued last term, please return the duly signed reports
before the end of the term. We need to update the stu-
dent’s progress.
Welcome !
After the previous issue of the last newsletter, we have had
our Family Fun Day and the school’s Tamil Cultural day. We
share the happy memories with you through some photos
with this newsletter and in our new website www.etsc.org.au
We have great pleasure in welcoming students, parents and
staff back to Eastwood Tamil School this term.
There are many things to accomplish this term and it is
going to be busy for us as we prepare to show-case the
major event of our school, Kalai Vizha 2012. Our teachers
and parents once again endeavor to stage another colourful
Kalai Vizha. Students are enthusiastically involved in prepar-
ing themselves for this event.
We have organised additional practice & rehearsal sessions
on Monday nights starting from 27th August. Please refer
the rehearsals timetable for further details.
We are also making arrangements for the Annual Granny
Smith stall which is coming up next term in October.
A big thank you to all volunteers, parents, children, commit-
tee members and teachers for dedicating their precious time
and efforts to ETSC and the Tamil community. Specifically
to our Assistant Cultural Coordinator, Mr Noel Ponniah who
has re-signed from the committee for health reasons. Thank
you for your valuable contribution to ETSC over the past
year. Our best wishes to you and your family.
We also welcome Mr Narasiman as the incoming Member of
the committee and look forward to your contributions to the
community.

Tanglish ங்க்லீஷ் is a combination of Tamil and
English, popular among city teenagers in Tamil speaking regions. Tanglish is now used by the ad-vertising industry. Some examples are Tamil Nadu's Pespi's commercial "Ullam Kekkuthae More" and 2011 hit song "Why This Kolaveri Di". Will Tamil be-come an extinct language ?

ETSC’s AWARD FOR
REGULAR ATTENDANCE
To win the above award, a student must:
1. Be punctual; and 2. Attend classes regularly.
Student punctuality is also considered during nomi-
nation for the NSW Minister’s Award. So if you’d like
two awards, be punctual.
Helping your child with Tamil
Spend at least an hour helping your child with his or her Tamil
homework. You will find some interactive activities on our web-
site if you need ideas.
After Tamil class, review with your child lessons learnt and com-
municate any feedback to our committee members.
Try to communicate with your child in Tamil at home. Ask Tamil
speaking friends or relatives to speak to your child in Tamil. Ask
your child to interact with Tamil school teachers and students in
Tamil whether it is in the classroom or the playground.
Tell your child stories about our great Tamil culture. Your child
will begin to show an interest in the heritage. Translate some of
the English text or stories into Tamil and vice versa as a fun exer-
cise at home.
Ensure your child attends Tamil school regularly to qualify for
awards.
Inform the school of any changes
If your child has to be absent from school, is arriving late, leaving early or is being picked up by persons other than yourself, please inform your child's teacher or school by phone, email, SMS or written note. No supervision is available after 5.00pm.
