2015 PW Yearbook and Directory (updated October 2015)
Presbytery of Greater Atlanta
Synod of South Atlantic
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Constituted March 13, 1988
PW Purpose
FORGIVEN AND FREED BY GOD IN JESUS CHRIST, Forgiven and freed by grace through faith, the central figure stands in praise. AND EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, WE COMMIT OURSELVES: Rooted in faith, the trio of women emerge. The outline of the central figure forms a cross. We are Presbyterian women, engrafted in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us. TO NURTURE OUR FAITH THROUGH PRAYER AND BIBLE STUDY, The right figure holds a book to guide her reading, studying, praying, or meditating. TO SUPPORT THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH WORLDWIDE, The left figure reaches out to care for others, as she shares, nurtures, and heals. The circle represents the church worldwide where women offer their gifts and talents in the midst of the global community.
TO WORK FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE The uplifted arms of the central figure reach out to embrace a just peace for the world. The relationship between the three figures depicts lives of wholeness rather than turmoil.
AND TO BUILD AN INCLUSIVE, CARING, COMMUNITY OF WOMEN The three women have no distinct features and represent all women. The shapes surrounding them express energy, strength and openness. THAT STRENGTHENS THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (U.S.A.) Our name, Presbyterian Women, ties us to our denomination. The Bible resembles the Bible depicted in the PC(USA) Seal. AND WITNESSES TO THE PROMISE OF GOD’S KINGDOM. Guided by our Purpose, we witness to the reality of God’s realm.

My hope—and prayer – is to inspire our Coordinating Team to use faith and creativity to address each woman’s area of responsibility. Our goals for the past year included:
Focus on the PW Purpose and how we can fulfill that purpose most effectively
Exchange ideas and strategize on what our role is within the Greater Atlanta Presbytery to define our "value added" service to our local PW groups
Address the challenge of communicating effectively with about 100 demographically diverse churches and how we might improve our relationships with them
I welcome your suggestions, your questions, and your participation!
Blessings & Peace,
Kelly Rae Weirich

Audit Committee Report We, a committee of the Coordinating Team, have examined the statements of cash receipts and disbursements and cash balances of the Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, for the period January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014. Our review included an examination of the supporting records of the Coordinating Team Treasurer, including bank statements and documentation related to the cash receipts and disbursements. We found no evidence of significant errors or irregularities in the financial records. We found deposits and expenses fully described and they agreed with the year-end annual report. During 2012, unauthorized use of PW funds for personal expenses, totaling $3,657.40, occurred. The Administrative Committee investigated, discussed and arranged for repayment and the party resigned from her position. In the agreed repayment plan, the funds were to be repaid by October 31, 2013. To date $2,450 has been repaid ($2,000 in 2013 and $450 in 2014), leaving a balance of $1,207.40. The Treasurer continues to work to collect the money. Last year the Audit committee made the following recommendations for improved tracking and accountability:
The Treasurer should use a software program for automated tracking of income and
expenses.
The Treasurer should follow up on checks which have not cleared.
All requests for reimbursement should be accompanied by the standard PW reimbursement
form and receipts.
These have all been put into place, beginning January 1, 2014. The only recommendation for 2015 is that a letter be sent to the party mentioned above, signed by presbytery officials, proposing an expedited payment plan that completes the debt by year end. Payment collection should not be an ongoing job of treasurer. The Audit committee would like to commend the Treasurer for well-organized and readable books with no irregularities, and for reports that make clear exactly how money has moved through the account. This examination is not an audit by an independent auditor and should not be construed as such for any purposes. Signed:

Moderator’s Annual Report
My hope—and prayer – has been to inspire our Coordinating Team to use faith and ingenuity to address each woman’s area of responsibility. Our goals for the past year included:
Pray regularly for guidance from the Holy Spirit
Discover ways to support and strengthen our local PW groups
Convey the synergy possible between PW groups and their congregations
Communicate effectively and improve our relationships with the churches in our misdst
March 2014- March 2015 Highlights
Spiritual Support and Missions
Members of our Coordinating Team hosted a table at the May presbytery meeting which highlighted our Prayer Force, accepted prayer requests, and invited others to join us in prayer for each of the congregations in our presbytery. Begun in the previous year, a group of women prayed daily for a specific congregation and its PW organization for an entire month. By mid-summer, the Prayer Force had prayed for each congregation in our presbytery and the ministries and missions with which we have special relationships.
We endorsed the Horizons Bible Study: Reconciling Paul: A Contemporary Study of 2 Corinthians. Using our New Beginnings Fund, we supplemented the cost of study guides for a new PW group in our presbytery.
We continue to promote ministries and missions, including The Presbyterian Mission Agency, Church Women United, Shalom International Ministry, PW Birthday Offering, Columbia Friendship Circle, Villa International, PW Thank Offering, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia, Thornwell Home for Children (and their
Building Families Program), United Nation efforts (including the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination
against Women, the UNiTE to End Violence Against Women campaign activities, and the Commission on the Status
of Women), PW Honorary Life Memberships, Action Ministries (specifically, Azalea Village and Breakthru
House), Mission Haven, Johnson C. Smith and Columbia Theological Seminaries, Circle of Friends, Living Water for Girls, Atlanta Ministry with International Students, PW Global Exchange, Boys and Girls Clubs,
local food banks, La Gonâve Haiti Partnership, and more.
Leadership Development and Building Community
In March, 58 women from 18 churches, 9 adult guests, and 13 children from College Park’s Dream Choir gathered to worship, learn, and connect. Our keynote speaker, Rev. Sara Hayden, shared strategies for forming a vibrant young women’s ministry.
In June, we offered orientation and training to all of the PW Moderators in the congregations. In addition to several Coordinating Team Leaders, a total of 25 women from 16 churches participated, exchanged ideas, and received PW manuals for use in their congregations.
We hosted a workshop at the August presbytery meeting, entitled “PW: Beyond Circles and Cookies” at which a panel discussion that featured 2 pastors and 2 PW moderators described the positive relationships between PW groups and congregations.
In September, 75 women representing 25 churches in the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta were inspired, challenged, affirmed, and informed as they listened, shared, and exchanged ideas with one another at our annual Fall Workshop. The theme was “Sail with Us,” featuring Rev. Joan Gray as our keynote speaker and book author. Workshops included:

Banner Creation Techniques
We invited each of the PW groups to create a banner as an activity to build community. The PW groups will display their banners as we “Raise Our Sails” at the 28th Annual Gathering in March, 2015.
In October, about two dozen women from 5 Hispanic congregations and fellowships hosted a women’s retreat. We provided information about the PW organization and our local coordinating team, and explored how we might connect in ways not solely dependent upon a common language.
Communication
Our most effective method of communication is, of course, face to face or via telephone. We have a number of District Leaders whose primary purpose is to establish a direct relationship with the PW leaders in the congregations. Given our busy lives, they also employ direct mailings and electronic correspondence.
In addition, our Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery (PWP) manages a webpage located on the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta website. Here, our PW groups can access upcoming PW events, a comprehensive yearbook and directory, the most recent issue of PathWays, our quarterly newsletter, and additional PW resources. Our Facebook page continues to share upcoming events and mission opportunities, to convey cares and concerns, to energize women, and to “deepen and widen” our relationships. We encouraged event participation using Evite invitations in addition to email, flyers, and phone calls.
We rely heavily upon the convenience of email correspondence to support and encourage the local PW groups and congregations, to raise awareness of the numerous PW programs and mission opportunities, to offer spiritual support, to assist with leadership development, to provide resources, and more.
Future Plans
Encourage attendance at the 2015 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women in Minneapolis, Minnesota, June 18-21.
One day forum with seminary students to introduce PW to our future pastors and to describe how PW can support and strengthen the congregation and vice versa
An overnight presbytery-wide women’s retreat.
Blessings & Peace,
