This year marks 15 years from Pangea Organics’ inception, and what an amazing journey it has been. When I started Pangea, the mission was simple: make amazing, high quality, effective skincare products without unnecessary chemicals, and have fun while working with people who shared my passion. Well, I can wholeheartedly say…”mission accomplished!” Some of the most amazing people I have ever met have joined our team to make this mission a reality.

Something I didn’t know when I first started Pangea was how much running a purposeful business would teach me about life. As a company, we have been challenged almost every step of the way to stay true to our ethics and our mission. I am extremely proud to say that we have stayed the course and continue to move forward on our chosen path with consistently renewed passion.

Looking back, I realize that this journey was truly one of service and gratitude. Our service manifests itself in our work. We serve a purpose, we serve our community, and we serve each other. When we embrace this way of serving, we grow and live a much higher purpose. We empower and inspire our community to live their best lives. 

I also have tremendous gratitude for everyone who has been a part of our vibrant and growing Pangea Community: our Home Office team, our farmers who grow amazing ingredients for our products, our loyal customers who support the world they want to see by supporting us, and our incredible Independent Pangea Business Owners who share our products and our message with the world every day.

Every farmer has a story. Every Pangea product is composed of these incredible stories. The seaweed in our award-winning Facial Mask is a perfect example. A family in Oregon hand harvests our Gigartina, Wakame and Kombu seaweed. Pangea’s founder Joshua Onysko drove out to Oregon to understand their harvesting process and discovered their beautiful story. Every year, the family receives permits to collect seaweed along the coast between northern California and southern Oregon. They wait until low tide, first blessing and making offerings to the ocean, thanking the waters for their livelihood. Then they put on wet suits and begin harvesting. Instead of gathering all of the seaweed, they pick one of every four plants to preserve the integrity of the ecosystem. Our farmers believe in the philosophy of treading lightly, and taking from the Earth in a respectful, nurturing way. They care about future generations and the preservation of the earth. It is this care that translates into the nurturing affects of our products. Seaweed helps to re-mineralize, hydrate and oxygenate the skin. Additionally, these sea vegetables assist in soothing and stimulating the skin, increasing the regeneration of skin cells, and reducing the inflammation of redness. An essential oil is composed of volatile aroma compounds found in only about 10% of the world’s plants. Essential oils act as the plant’s immune system. The chemical composition of the plant’s essential oil continues to adapt to its ever-changing internal and external environment acting as a protection mechanism. The rose essential oil extraction process is very interesting. Our rose oil is produced by steam distillation in which rose petals are harvested from the field and gently heated with steam to separate the oil from the plant. Although roses have quite an aroma, the delicate petals of this flower only contain a small amount of oil. Amazingly, it takes over 300,000 petals to produce just one ounce of oil. Requiring such strenuous work, our farmers typically use biodynamic farming techniques in order to harvest the most oil possible. This happens during a full moon right as the last morning dew evaporates, sometimes distilling on site. This exotic oil has a long history of use in folk remedies aiding the skin. Rose moisturizes the skin and is especially nurturing on dry, dehydrated, mature, and irritated skin. Rich in Vitamins A, B3, C, D and E, rose oil helps repair broken capillaries, reduce inflammation, and minimize redness. This oil also contains bioflavonoids, citric acid, flavonoids, fructose, malic acid, tannins, and zinc, which help to protect, soften, and nourish the skin. We are proud to collaborate with the Rainforest Alliance, an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods in communities worldwide. The Rainforest Alliance supports sustainable farming of palm oil, including palm kernel oil and other tropical crops. This is especially important for palm oil, as the rapidly expanding crop is responsible for deforestation, displacement of indigenous peoples, and endangering wildlife. Rainforest Alliance certification means that farms are complying with the rigorous and comprehensive standards of the Sustainable Agriculture Network. Meeting these standards helps farmers reduce the environmental impact of their operations while increasing the social benefits and economic values. The standards prohibit further deforestation, promote reforestation, conserve natural resources, require protection of wildlife and ecosystems such as wetlands and streams, and ensure that workers are receiving the rights and benefits that they deserve.

The health benefits of Palm Oil are numerous, and additional benefits continue to be discovered. Palm Oil contains the hard to find toctrienols, which are members of the Vitamin E family. Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant that helps us fight free radicals that damage the skin and cause fine lines and wrinkles.
