Washington leads the series, 7-5, and the Redskins have won the previous three matchups (2012, 2011, 2002). In 1999, the Bucs secured a 16-13 win at then-Redskins Stadium to cap their first unbeaten preseason in 16 years. They followed it up with a close victory the next year, winning 13-12 in 2000. The first preseason contest between the two teams was on August 4, 1979, a 9-7 Redskins win. Tampa Bay exacted some revenge a year later with an 11-6 home triumph. The Bucs also picked up wins in 1982 and 1987, with Washington notching victories in 1985, 1986 and 1997. Tampa Bay has met the Redskins in the preseason in six of their 10 playoff seasons. ALL-TIME SERIES - REGULAR SEASON Washington leads the all-time series 9-8 in the regular season, including the previous two meetings. Most recently, in 2012, the Redskins defeated the Buccaneers, 24-22, at Raymond James Stadium. Washington was also victorious the last time it hosted the Buccaneers, winning 16-10 in 2009. In 2007, Tampa Bay posted a 19-13 victory at Raymond James Stadium, and also prevailed with victories in 2005 and 2006. The two teams have also met twice during the postseason, with the Buccaneers rallying for a 14-13 victory in a 1999 NFC Divisional playoff game in Tampa, along with the 2005 NFC Wild Card meeting, which Washington won 17-10. The early part of the series was marked by streaks, with the Redskins winning the first four meetings followed by four consecutive victories for the Bucs. Washington’s 20-16 victory during the 1998 season snapped Tampa Bay’s win streak, which had occurred within a three-year span. The Redskins downed the Bucs, 20-17, in overtime at Washington in 2000 before the Bucs won, 35-13, at Washington in 2003. In 2004, the Redskins won, 16-10, in Head Coach Joe Gibbs’

LAST MEETING (PRESEASON) Washington 30, Tampa Bay 12 Thursday, August 29, 2013 TAMPA – In the final game of the 2013 preseason, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted the Washington Redskins. The Buccaneers won the coin toss and elected to defer, giving the Redskins the ball first. Three plays into the drive, Washington quarterback Pat White connected with wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe on a 66-yard pass that was brought to the Tampa Bay four-yard line with the addition of a Buccaneers penalty. Two plays later, running back Evan Royster punched the ball into the end zone for the 7-0 Washington lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Tampa Bay kick returner Eric Page broke away from defenders on a 105-yard run, but the return was negated by penalty, and the Buccaneers were then forced to punt on the drive. Later in the first quarter, Redskins kicker Kai Forbath hit a 37-yard field goal, which was followed by a quick three-and-out from the Buccaneers. Redskins running back Chris Thompson extended the Washington lead to 17-0, taking the Bucanneers’ punt 69 yards for a touchdown. Tampa Bay put its first points on the board in the second quarter, as linebacker Najee Goode intercepted White and returned the ball 37 yards for the score, which stood at 17-6 following a missed extra point attempt. On a later drive, Buccaneers quarterback Mike Glennon fumbled the ball, which was recovered by the Redskins and turned into a 30-yard field goal by Forbath. Glennon was then intercepted on the next drive and Washington scored three plays later, making the score 27-6 at halftime. Tampa Bay opened the second half of play with a 30-yard field goal of its own, following a 65-yard drive which was aided by two Glennon passes of 20+ yards. Washington tacked on an additional Forbath field goal at the end of the third quarter, which was followed by Tampa Bay kicker Rian Lindell hitting a 50-yard field goal to bring the score to 30-12. The Buccaneers had another chance at a field goal late in the fourth quarter, but kicker Derek Dimke missed the 45-yarder and the Redskins then ran down the clock to end the game. LAST MEETING (REGULAR SEASON) Washington 24, Tampa Bay 22 Sunday, September 30, 2012 TAMPA – Despite overcoming an 18-point deficit to take the lead late in the game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were beaten by the visiting Washington Redskins, 24-22, with a last-second Washington field goal. After trading punts to open the game, the Buccaneers put up the first points of the day, when K Connor Barth cleared a 50-yard field goal for the 3-0 lead. The Redskins responded, with QB Robert Griffin III leading his team deep into Buccaneers territory. Tampa Bay S Mark Barron forced a Griffin fumble, but the ball was recovered by Washington in the end zone for the touchdown. In the second quarter, Washington K Billy Cundiff set up for a 41-yard field goal, but his attempt went wide right, keeping the score 7-3. However, on Tampa Bay’s following possession, QB Josh Freeman was picked off by Washington CB DeAngelo Hall, returning the ball to Griffin and the Redskins offense at the Buccaneers’ 35-yard line. Washington turned the interception into a scoring drive that ended with a 5-yard touchdown rush by Griffin. After holding the Buccaneers to a punt, the Redskins found their way to the end zone yet again, with a 39-yard run by RB Alfred Morris, giving Washington the 21-3 lead. The Buccaneers then drove over midfield, where Barth kicked a 57-yard field goal to bring the score to 21-6. Though Washington was able to drive into position for a field goal before halftime, Cundiff’s own 57-yard attempt was short, preserving the score at the break. Late in the third quarter, Freeman found WR Mike Williams on a deep pass for 65 yards, setting up a seven-yard touchdown pass to WR Vincent Jackson three plays later. With the game at 21-13 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Redskins drove to the Tampa Bay 13, where DT Gerald McCoy tackled Griffin on third-and-2, forcing a field goal attempt. Cundiff missed the 31-yarder, however, and the Buccaneers made the most of the error. Freeman hit Jackson on a 54-yard pass on the first play of the Tampa Bay series, and RB LeGarrette Blount punched the ball into the end zone two plays later for the touchdown. The Buccaneers attempted a two-point conversion, but the pass was incomplete, putting the score at 21-19. Later in the quarter, Tampa Bay took a one-point lead as Barth made his third field goal of the night, this time a 47-yard attempt. However, with less than two minutes left in the game, Washington was able to bring the ball within field goal range, and, despite earlier struggles, Cundiff was able to make his final kick, giving the Redskins the close victory.

In his lone season as a Mountaineer, he started all 12 games he played in, earning Big 12 Conference co-Newcomer of the Year, setting career marks in rush attempts (208) and rushing yards (1,095), while adding 11 rushing touchdowns, the third-most in the Big 12. His 129.09 all-purpose yards per game were the second-most in the league. While with Houston, Sims totaled 384 rushes and 29 touchdowns, with 158 catches for 1,707 yards and eight touchdowns. In each season he played for the Cougars, he was the team’s leading rusher. He graduated in 2012 with a degree in health. G Kadeem Edwards was chosen in the fifth round (143rd overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers. In four seasons at Tennessee State (2009-13), Edwards started 41-of-45 career games played. As a senior, he started all 14 games for the Tigers, earning FCS All-American honors from The NFL Draft Report, Sports Network, Beyond Sports Network and Heritage Sports Radio Network, while adding second-team recognition from the Associated Press. Edwards helped lead the Tigers to their first postseason berth since 1999 and their first postseason victory since 1982 with an opening round victory over Butler. T Kevin Pamphile was the 149th overall selection of the 2014 NFL Draft, taken by Tampa Bay in the fifth round. Pamphile played in 35 games at Purdue, making 21 starts on the offensive line, including starting every game as a senior. In the fall of 2011, Pamphile made the switch from defense to offense, after being recruited as a defensive lineman. WR Robert Herron was selected in the sixth round (185th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers. In four years at Wyoming (2010-13), Herron started 27-of-42 games played, catching 152 passes for 2,030 yards and 20 touchdowns, while adding 54 carries for 310 yards. He ranks seventh in Mountain West Conference history in touchdown receptions, while standing fourth in school history. He also ranks in the top 10 in Wyoming history in receiving yards and receptions. As a senior, Herron was named first-team All-Mountain West by The NFL Draft Scout, in addition to All-American Super Sleeper honors by the same service.

FRESH FACES The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered this offseason looking for a fresh start. After a 4-12 season, the Buccaneers brought in a new coach, unveiled a new logo and uniforms, and overhauled their roster. One of the most active teams in free agency, the Bucs added 13 players via unrestricted free agency. Nine of those signees are currently listed atop their position on the depth chart: tackle Anthony Collins, guard Oniel Cousins center Evan Dietrich-Smith, cornerback Mike Jenkins, defensive end Michael Johnson, quarterback Josh McCown, defensive tackle Clinton McDonald, tight end Brandon Myers, cornerback Alterraun Verner.

10

T Anthony Collins joins the Buccaneers after spending his first six seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. During his time in Cincinnati, Collins was a versatile member of the offensive line, playing in 59 career games with 25 starts, appearing at both tackle positions, while also working as an extra tight end. In 2013, Collins set a career high with 15 games played and tied a career high with seven starts. According to Stats Inc., Collins did not allow a sack or record a holding penalty all season and was a key member of an offensive line that allowed the third-fewest sacks in the NFL. G Oniel Cousins spent the last three seasons with the Cleveland Browns (2011-13), working under Buccaneers offensive line coach George Warhop, who was with the Browns from 2009-13. In six seasons, Cousins has played in 60 career games with nine starts. He originally entered the league as a third round selection (99th overall) of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2008 NFL Draft, spending the first three years of his career with the Ravens (2008-10). C Evan Dietrich-Smith comes to Tampa Bay from the Green Bay Packers, where he was a member of the Super Bowl XLV championship team. From 2009-13, Dietrich Smith played in 61 games with 25 starts, and started 3-of-5 postseason games he appeared in. In 2013, Dietrich-Smith started all 16 games at center for the Packers, helping Green Bay’s offense finish third in the NFL in total yards per game (400.3), including a rushing attack that finished tied for fifth in the league with 17 rushing touchdowns. CB Mike Jenkins returns to the Bay Area, having grown up in Bradenton and played collegiately at the University of South Florida. Jenkins entered the NFL as a first-round pick of the Cowboys (25th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft. Jenkins played in Dallas from 2008-12, before joining Oakland for the 2013 season. A Pro Bowl selection in 2009, Jenkins has played in 86 career games, with 63 starts, recording 252 tackles, 65 passes defensed, 10 interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He has also played in two postseason contests, tallying six passes defensed, two tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery. DE Michael Johnson is another former Bengal joining the Buccaneers, having spent his first five seasons in the NFL with Cincinnati (2009-13). During his time with the Bengals, Johnson played in 79 career games, with 45 starts, totaling 202 tackles, 26.5 sacks, 25 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and three interceptions. Johnson had a career-best nine passes defensed in 2013, the most in the league by a defensive lineman. In the 2012 season, Johnson finished ninth in the NFL in sacks, with a career-high 11.5, and earned AFC Player of the Week honors after recording three sacks against Washington in Week 3. QB Josh McCown spent the last three seasons with the Chicago Bears (2011-13), including two under Lovie Smith (2011-12). A veteran in his 12th season, McCown has played in 58 career games, with 38 starts, completing 794-of-1,337 passes for 8,827 yards, with 50 touchdowns and 45 interceptions, while adding 152 rushes for 706 yards (4.6 avg.) and four touchdowns. Before joining Chicago, he played for Arizona (2002-05), Detroit (2006), Oakland (2007) and Carolina (2008-09). Last season, McCown played in eight games, starting five, setting career highs in completion percentage (66.4), yards per attempt (8.2), passing touchdowns (13) and passer rating (109.0). His 0.4 interception percentage led the NFL and ranks as the third-best in NFL history among qualified starters, according to Stats, Inc. McCown won his first career NFC Offensive Player of the Week award in Week 14 against Dallas, after completing 75 percent of his passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns, while adding a rushing touchdown. DT Clinton McDonald joins Tampa Bay after spending three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (2011-13), including as a member of the Super Bowl XLVIII championship team. McDonald originally entered the league as a seventh-round pick (249th overall) of the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2009 NFL Draft. After spending 2009-10 with the Bengals, vacillating between the practice squad and the active roster, he was traded to Seattle prior to the start of the 2011 season. McDonald posted a career-best 5.5 sacks in 2013, while also recording his first interception. In his postseason career, McDonald has played in five contests with his only start coming in the Super Bowl.

11

TE Brandon Myers comes to the Buccaneers after spending the 2013 season with the New York Giants. Prior to his time with the Giants, Myers spent the first four years of his career (2009-12) with the Oakland Raiders. Entering his sixth season, Myers has played in 74 career games, with 42 starts, recording 158 receptions for 1,578 yards and eight touchdowns. Myers has caught four touchdowns in each of the last two seasons and in 2012 made 79 receptions, the most by an AFC tight end. CB Alterraun Verner spent the last four seasons with the Tennessee Titans (2010-13), playing in all 64 games, with 47 starts, recording 288 tackles, 50 passes defensed, 11 interceptions, five fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. Since taking over as a starter in 2012, Verner has started all 32 games, recording the fourth-most passes defensed (31) and tying for the 10th-most interceptions (7) in the league during that time. A 2013 Pro Bowl selection and second-team Associated Press All-Pro, Verner set a career high in passes defensed, with 22, tied for the most in the NFL. Verner also tallied a career-best five interceptions, which led the AFC and tied for the fifth-most in the NFL. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS HEAD COACH LOVIE SMITH Named the 10th head coach in franchise history on January 2, 2014, Lovie Smith enters his first season at the helm of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014. Smith joined the Buccaneers after having spent nine seasons as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. During his tenure, Smith led Chicago to an 81-63 (.563) regular season record, while going 3-3 in the postseason. He led the Bears to three division titles, two NFC Championship game appearances and the 2006 NFC title, which propelled Chicago to its first Super Bowl appearance in 21 years. Smith’s hiring marks his second stint with Tampa Bay, with his first NFL coaching job coming as a member of former head coach Tony Dungy’s staff (1996-2000). Smith left Chicago ranked third all-time in coaching victories, behind only Hall of Famers George Halas and Mike Ditka. Under Smith’s guidance, the Chicago defense led the NFL in takeaways (310), three-and-out drives forced (485), three-and-out drive percentage (26.4%), third down percentage (34.1%) and red zone scoring efficiency (79.3%). Chicago ranked second in the league in opponent yards per pass attempt (6.52) and red zone takeaways (37), third in opponent passer rating (76.0), fourth in scoring defense (19.2 points per game) and seventh in rushing average (4.0). The Bears defense was one of the best in the NFL at turning their turnovers into points, returning 34 of their 310 takeaways for touchdowns, including 26 interceptions returned for scores, tied for the most in the NFL during that time. Chicago’s 303 total touchdowns allowed during Smith’s tenure were the third-fewest in the NFL. The Bears gave up the fewest points in the NFC during the 2005 and 2006 seasons, including leading the league in Smith’s second season. While the team was known for its defensive successes, Chicago also had some of its best offensive performances under Smith. The 2006 Bears scored 427 points, the third-most in franchise history. In 2009, QB Jay Cutler set franchise records for completions and attempts, while recording the second-most passing yards in team history. Cutler became the first quarterback in franchise history to post consecutive 3,000-yard seasons, while also becoming the first Bears QB to have back-to-back seasons with at least 20 touchdown passes. In the same season, RB Matt Forte became just the second player in franchise history (along with Walter Payton) to have 1,000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in the same season. Forte became the first player in NFL history with at least 900 rushing yards and 400 receiving yards in each of his first four seasons. In Smith’s final season as head coach, the team had a 3,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and a 1,000-yard receiver for the second time in franchise history – including WR Brandon Marshall’s franchise records for receptions (118) and receiving yards (1,508).

12

Chicago found consistency under the even-keeled hand of Smith’s direction, fashioning four double-digit win seasons, five winning seasons and six seasons with a record of .500 or better. The Bears had a regular season home record of 45-27 (.625) from 2004-12 while going 36-36 (.500) on the road during that time. The Bears won five or more games at home seven times in a single year during Smith’s tenure. Chicago was 5-3 at home from 2009-12, 6-2 in 2006 and 2008 and 7-1 in the Windy City during 2005. Chicago was 7-1 on the road in 2006, tied with 1985 and 1986 for the team’s best single-season road record since the inception of the 16-game schedule. The Bears were 8-16 (.333) on the road in the three years prior to Smith’s arrival. By leading Chicago to records of 11-5 in 2005 and 2010 and 13-3 in 2006, Smith guided the Bears to three of their top eight seasons in terms of regular season victories during the era of the 16-game schedule. Smith returned Chicago to its preferred place as a power in the NFC North, fashioning a divisional record of 32-22 (.593) during his time with the Bears including three division titles (2005, 2006 and 2010). Smith led Chicago to 5-1 intra-divisional records in each of the 2005, 2006 and 2010 campaigns, defeating all three opponents at least once in each of those seasons, a feat last accomplished by the Bears in 1991. Chicago began the 2006 season with three consecutive wins over divisional opponents for the first time in team history. The Bears also won their first 11 games against NFC opponents in 2006 en route to the second-best intra-conference mark in franchise history. Registering a career-high 13 wins in 2006, Smith led Chicago to home-field advantage in the NFC Playoffs and the team’s first NFC Championship since its Super Bowl season of 1985. That gave Chicago 24 regular season wins since 2005, the fourth-highest two-season win total in the 87-season history of the franchise. Smith guided the team to wins in its first seven contests in 2006 to register the fourth-best start to a season in team history while allowing the Bears to join Green Bay and Minnesota as the only teams in NFL history to begin four different seasons with 7-0 records. Chicago’s seven consecutive wins to start the season allowed Smith to record the league’s third-longest win streak for the second consecutive season. With division titles in 2005 and 2006, Smith joined Ditka as the only coaches in team history to lead the team to consecutive division titles. He was the first coach in team history to lead the Bears to the playoffs in two of his first three seasons. Smith was named the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year for 2005 after leading the Bears to a division title in the shortest amount of time in team history, doing so in his second campaign while setting a franchise record for victories by a sophomore head coach with an 11-5 record. Smith - who won with 24.5 of 50 possible votes - was the fourth head coach in team history to win the award after team founder George S. Halas in 1963 and 1965, Mike Ditka in 1985 and 1988 and Dick Jauron in 2001. Just the third coach in team history to lead the organization to the playoffs in his second season, Smith guided the Bears to their first-ever NFC North division title in 2005. En route to the team’s division championship that season, the Bears completed their first season sweep of Green Bay since 1991, a feat they repeated in 2007. Winning just one of their first four games to start the 2005 campaign, Smith rallied the Bears to become just the 20th NFL team to qualify for the postseason after beginning the season 1-3 since the current 12-team playoff system was instituted in 1990. The Bears turned their season around as Smith guided the team to eight consecutive mid-season wins, the third-longest win streak in the NFL in 2005 and the longest by Chicago since the 1985 Super Bowl championship team won 12 straight to begin the season. In guiding the team to the No. 2 seed in the NFC Playoffs, Smith led a worst-to-first revival in the NFC North division as the Bears’ six-win improvement from the previous season was tied for the biggest in the NFL in 2005. The Bears posted a 5-11 record in 2004 during Smith’s first season as head coach as he presided over the youngest team in the NFL while battling through a spate of injuries that robbed the team of the services of several of its most productive players.

Smith came to Chicago with the reputation for being proficient at instituting positive change after he engineered a dramatic turnaround as the defensive coordinator of the Rams from 2001 through 2003. Known for his acumen in teaching and motivating young talent, Smith took on the added responsibility of assistant head coach with the Rams prior to the 2003 season. In Smith’s first season as an NFL defensive coordinator with St. Louis in 2001, Smith helped the Rams return to the Super Bowl after missing the playoffs the previous season as his defense allowed fewer points and total yards per game than the previous year. Smith coached on playoff teams in four of his last five campaigns as an assistant and has done so in eight of his 17 NFL seasons overall. From 2001-03, the Rams ranked third in the NFL in takeaways and fumble recoveries, tied for sixth in sacks, and tied for eighth in interceptions. Smith helped steward St. Louis to shutouts in both 2001 and 2003, the first white-washings by the Rams organization since 1994. St. Louis won 33 games during Smith’s tenure with the team, the third-most in the NFL during that time behind Green Bay and Philadelphia. He capped his stint in St. Louis by orchestrating a unit that ranked among the league leaders in takeaways, defensive touchdowns, and sacks in 2003. In that year, St. Louis led the NFL with 46 takeaways while tying for fourth with 24 interceptions and leading the NFL with 22 fumble recoveries. That season’s takeaway total is tied with the 1999 Eagles and 2011 Pittsburgh Steelers for the third-highest single-season total in the NFL since 1993. St. Louis ranked fourth in the NFL by scoring five defensive touchdowns in 2003 and also posted the fourth-most sacks in the NFL. In 2002, the Rams defense finished tied for fourth in the NFC and tied for fifth in the NFL in fewest touchdowns allowed while ranking sixth in the NFC and eighth in the NFL in third-down efficiency. Smith guided St. Louis to a defensive resurgence upon taking over in 2001. Inheriting a defense coming off a season in which it ranked 23rd in the NFL in total defense while allowing over 29 points per game, Smith improved the unit to third in the NFL in total defense while permitting only 17.0 points per game. The St. Louis defense made one-year leaps to third from 13th in the NFL in run defense and 10th from 27th in pass defense while improving to a conference-high 14 wins from 10 in 2000. The Rams scored five defensive touchdowns in 2001 while starting seven new players on defense, including two rookies. Preceding his success in St. Louis, Smith contributed to the revival of Tampa Bay’s defense as the Buccaneers linebacker coach from 1996-2000. Tampa’s defense hadn’t ranked above 20th in the NFL in the four seasons prior to Smith’s arrival under head coach Tony Dungy, but had ranks of 11th in 1996, third in 1997, second in 1998, third in 1999, and ninth in 2000. During the five seasons with Smith on the Bucs staff, the team allowed less than 300 points each year while permitting an average of 16.9 points and 258.8 yards per game. Smith’s tutelage has brought out the best in his players throughout his career. As linebackers coach at Tampa Bay, Smith helped Derrick Brooks develop into a perennial Pro Bowl selection and one of the NFL’s all-time greatest linebackers. Brooks made the first Pro Bowl of his team-record 11 career Pro Bowl appearances in his second season – Smith’s first season as his position coach. Also in 1996, Smith helped Hardy Nickerson earn his second career Pro Bowl nod. Brooks and Nickerson made a combined eight all-star appearances under Smith. Overall, Smith has spent 30 years in coaching at the collegiate and professional levels. He began his coaching career at his hometown high school, Big Sandy High School (Texas), in 1980 before moving to Cascia Hall Prep in Tulsa, Okla. the following year. Two years later, Smith made the jump to the college ranks at his alma mater, Tulsa, as linebackers coach, where he stayed through 1986. Smith moved on to coach linebackers at Wisconsin (1987), Arizona State (1988-91), and Kentucky (1992). Smith was the defensive backs coach at Tennessee (1993-94) and Ohio State (1995). A native of Big Sandy, Texas, Smith led the Big Sandy Wildcats to three consecutive state championships in high school and was all-state three years as an end and linebacker. Smith was a two-time All-America and three-time All-Missouri Conference defensive back at the University of Tulsa. Lovie and his wife, MaryAnne, are the proud parents of three sons: Mikal, married to Kristen; Matthew, married to Kathleen; and Miles.

Lovie is very active in charity work as he and his wife have started the Lovie and MaryAnne Smith Foundation (LAMAS) which helps worthy young people further their education, with the simple motto, “We start it - You finish it.” WASHINGTON REDSKINS HEAD COACH JAY GRUDEN Jay Gruden was named the 29th head coach of the Washington Redskins on January 9, 2014. Excluding interim coaches, Gruden, 46, became the team’s youngest head coaching hire since hiring eventual Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs at 40 years of age in 1981. He became the first Redskins coach hired directly from an offensive coordinator role on another team since Norv Turner in 1994. Before joining the Redskins, Gruden spent his previous three seasons as offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals. In his tenure in Cincinnati, the Bengals averaged 10 wins a season, making three consecutive playoff appearances and earning an AFC North championship in 2013. Members of the Bengals’ offense accounted for seven Pro Bowl selections in his three seasons in Cincinnati. Gruden was tasked with the development of quarterback Andy Dalton, a 2011 second-round pick. In three seasons together, Gruden helped Dalton to a 30-18 regular season record as a starter (.625), as Dalton’s 30 wins in that time frame ranked tied for fifth-most among NFL quarterbacks. Dalton’s 80 passing touchdowns rank third-most in NFL history for a quarterback in his first three seasons, trailing only Dan Marino (98) and Peyton Manning (85). Prior to joining the Bengals, Gruden served two years with the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League from 2009-10. In 2009, Gruden served as offensive coordinator under current Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett as the Tuskers compiled a 6-0 regular season record and earned a UFL championship game berth. In 2010, he assumed the roles of head coach and general manager and led the Tuskers to their second consecutive championship game appearance. Gruden coached for seven seasons (2002-08) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, earning a Super Bowl championship ring as an offensive assistant in 2002. There he worked under his brother, Jon, then the Bucs’ head coach, and current Redskins Executive Vice President/General Manager Bruce Allen, the Bucs’ general manager from 2004-08. Gruden helped guide the Buccaneers to the team’s first league championship, a 48-21 victory in Super Bowl XXXVII. Gruden also ranks among the most outstanding players and coaches in the history of the Arena Football League, having won six combined league championships – four as a quarterback and two as a head coach. Gruden played quarterback (2002-03) and served as head coach (2004-08) of the AFL’s Orlando Predators, all while simultaneously working as an offensive assistant with the Buccaneers. In all, Gruden served as head coach of the Predators for nine seasons (1998-2001 and 2004-08), leading the Predators to four championship game appearances and two league titles as a coach. During a two-year hiatus from coaching the Predators in 2002-03, he returned to the playing field as Orlando’s quarterback, leading the Predators to playoff appearances in both seasons. In his eight seasons as a player in the AFL, Gruden completed 1,673-of-2,775 passes (60.3 percent) for 21,578 yards with 398 touchdowns and 99 interceptions. In addition to his time with Orlando, he spent six seasons (1991-96) at quarterback for the Tampa Bay Storm, winning four AFL titles and being named MVP of ArenaBowl VII in 1993. He was also named the 1992 AFL Most Valuable Player and was honored with induction into the AFL Hall of Fame in 1999. Gruden played quarterback for four seasons for former Redskins draft pick Howard Schnellenberger at the University of Louisville (1985-88) and was a two-time team MVP. Gruden was born March 4, 1967 in Tiffin, Ohio. He and his wife, Sherry, have three sons — J.J., Joey and Jack.

PRESEASON GAME 3 BUCCANEERS 27, BILLS 14

August 23, 2014 Ralph Wilson Stadium (66,764)

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. –Traveling to New York to take on the Buffalo Bills in Week 3 of the preseason, the Buccaneers put on a thorough performance with both first-team units, with the offense quickly rebounding after a shaky start, and finishing with a 27-14 victory. After winning the toss and electing to defer to the second half, the Buccaneers’ defense took the field first, and quickly came up with an interception, as safety Dashon Goldson snatched a pass from quarterback EJ Manuel. However, a sack of quarterback Josh McCown then led to a Tampa Bay punt. On the following possession, Buffalo punted, but then the Buccaneers were picked off themselves, giving the Bills the ball at the Tampa Bay 42. Linebacker Lavonte David then forced a fumble, which was scooped up by linebacker Mason Foster and taken 24 yards into Buffalo territory, allowing the Buccaneers offense another chance to advance with good field position. On third-and-6, McCown found running back Doug Martin on a short pass and Martin took the ball 21 yards to the one-yard line. On the ensuing play, Martin punched the ball over the plane to give the Buccaneers a 7-0 lead. Early in the second quarter, Tampa Bay added to the lead with a 43-yard field goal by kicker Connor Barth, which was set up with the help of a 19-yard scramble by McCown. On the following drive, Manuel was sacked by defensive ends Michael Johnson and Adrian Clayborn, fumbling the ball. Defensive Tackle Clinton McDonald recovered the fumble and returned it 17 yards for the defensive score, putting Tampa Bay up 17-0. The Buccaneers defense followed up with another big drive, with Foster batting down a pass and defensive end Larry English recording a sack on third down to force the Bills to punt. Tampa Bay made the most of the its next drive, draining nearly six minutes off the clock while moving 82 yards downfield to score on a 24-yard pass from McCown to wide receiver Mike Evans, putting the score at 24-0 going into halftime. The Bills were able to put their first points on the board by scoring touchdowns on both of their third-quarter possessions against the Buccaneers’ reserves. Bills quarterback Dennis Dixon opened the fourth quarter with a fumble on fourth-and-1, turning the ball over on downs despite recovering the fumble. The Buccaneers then proceeded to put together a long drive that ended with kicker Patrick Murray booting a 27-yard field goal, bringing the score to 27-14, upon which the game would end.
