Preservation Parts is a new name to the classic air-cooled VW market, but this is nothing to be concerned about as it comes from the same stable as the world’s leading supplier and manufacturer of parts and accessories for the VW Type 2, Just Kampers.

We launched Preservation Parts as it had become very clear something was missing from the classic Volkswagen range. We had been hearing directly from owners and specialist VW workshops that they were finding it increasingly hard to source good quality components. It’s clear that for those who sought quality over cost, there was little option than to accept a lower quality part rather than something that equalled the original part for quality and fit.

This is a very different situation compared to when I bought my first air-cooled Beetle in 1985 as I could still buy spare parts from the parts department at my local VW dealership. However, as I made my hobby my business, a quarter of a century ago and set up Just Kampers in 1989, I have seen that the quality of parts has diminished as cheaper copies have flooded the market.

The feedback we were receiving from Type 2 owners was that they were finding it hard to locate top quality parts for their other VWs and it was becoming harder as time has passed. Many Type 2 owners owned other VWs such as Beetles and wanted to be able to purchase parts from us, as they knew we provided great customer service and products. This was a major force behind Preservation Parts being formed.

Where products are no longer available Preservation Parts is manufacturing them, to the highest standards. We also manufacture a vast range of body repair panels in-house and these are proven to be equal or better than original.

The Preservation Parts range is growing rapidly, we are constantly adding new products. In fact between 25 and 50 new lines are added each month, so it is worth keeping watch on the website.

Many parts have been discontinued by Volkswagen and what was available in the aftermarket wasn’t of a quality that we were happy to use or indeed sell.The oil filler neck, timing scale and push rod tube retaining spring above are just three examples of small but important items that we have remanufactured in order to keep our customers vehicles on the road.

Beetle & T2 Oil Filler NeckThis was fitted to all VW upright engines with dynamos from 1967 and allows condensation to drain away. If fitted to a later engine fitted with a alternator, you will need to drill a drain hole in the lower tin. Fits Beetles 1967 onwards, T2 Splitscreens 1966-67 and T2 Bay Windows 1967-79. T4 Tailgate Window Security Grilles These strong security grilles serve two purposes: to stop rear glass damage when carrying heavy or awkward cargo, and as a visual deterent to thieves. Made from a single sheet of zinc-coated steel, they are finished in a light grey, textured polyester, powder coating. Sold in pairs they fit all twin rear door T4 models.
