Question 1:

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question 1 Notes

I have used NME as a basis of my magazine as it is of the same genre of mine. I have used the layout the same as one of the front covers as well as how I have used the masthead to create mine I used the masthead as it is short snappy and gets the attention of the public quickly without using up too much of valuable front page space instead of ‘NME’ standing for ‘new musical express’ I used ‘CME’ standing for ‘Charlies musical express’ as this is my name. although I used a different kind of camera shot when taking the picture for my front cover I used the same style of model credit as I liked the way it was lower down in black bold writing 9but used different font not covering a lot of the main image. Just as on the NME front cover I used a quote from the person in the main image just above the model credit using red text instead of white as this links in with the colour theme in the masthead as the one of NME does. I have also used the same technique in my other pages by taking an example of a magazine page and duplicating it with the things I want to use in my magazine but changing it at bits to suit my genre and style of magazine.

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

How are age groups/gender/social classes represented? Use the skills and knowledge you gained for preparation of section A of the exam.

Question 2 Notes

As my magazine is based on pop/chart music it is mainly aimed at 13+ but no particular age or gender because pop and chart music can be for everyone. Throughout my magazine it may seem like it is targeted more at younger people due to the language being used such as slang which will draw more attention to the teenage generation. I have used the colour black white and red like a traditional pop or chart music magazine such as NME or Q which shows it is targeted to both genders and this will also show as there are articles on both girl and boy artists. The different pop artists that are involved and shown within the magazine will represent different social classes. As my magazine is based on pop and chart music the articles will be about the most common and popular artists at the time which will represent different social classes based on their age, gender and class.

Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The two major publishing houses in the UK are as IPC and Bauer Media. Look at the profile of each of the magazines on the links below. Look at the existing magazines, or ‘brands’ they distribute. Are there any similar magazines/brands to yours? Would your magazine fit their profiles? Which of the publishing houses would best suit your magazine?

I have looked into the different media institutions and I feel that Bauer Media distributing my magazine would be the best option because they have more experience in publishing the type of music magazine the mine is such as Grazia which is a pop magazine and targets the same kind of audience, social class, age and gender.

Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

Relate this to your existing market research. Also carry out a focus group over the break where you show your finished product to at least 5 people. The best way to do this is set up a closed group on Facebook and invite friends to comment upon your work. Screen shot these comments to present on your blog. Ask them questions related to the product i.e. Content/Genre/Photographs/Colours/Fonts and the overall success of the magazine you have produced.

Question 4 Notes

As explained I will be targeting people of the age 13+ of no specific age or gender as the magazine is based on pop and chart music which has no specific age limit or gender based.
