Dear Players & Parents,

Welcome to Carolina Courts Peak Volleyball Academy. As an organization, our goal is to lead an elite level volleyball program where coaches, players, and parents all have an excellent experience.

Your child is our first priority! We are committed to offering a program that has the key components for your child to improve as an overall, well rounded volleyball player. With our program you will find a safe and clean facility in which your daughter will practice and train with coaches that have excellent knowledge of the game. Our coaches are well versed to teach technical and tactical skills of volleyball while encouraging your player in confidence and how to be a good teammate. We will also be offering a new strength and conditioning component to our program in which your player will grow in core strength and muscular stability. Also, we will continue to build character so your child will become a stronger leader on and off the court with the use of educational materials.

Thank you for becoming a part of our PEAK program and joining us for what is going to be a wonderful club season!

Sincerely,

Tammi Fries

PEAK Volleyball Director

Attendance /Travel/Meeting/Policies

PRACTICES:

All practices are mandatory for the student athlete. It is the athlete’s responsibility to balance school work, extra-curricular activities with practice. The motto for this year is “Own Your Commitment” and “Bring Your 100%.” As a staff, we will expect players to show up, ready to focus and give their complete effort in each practice.

Pursuit Rule:

No balls fall without effort. If during practice, a player or players do not pursue a ball and it falls, the immediate response will either a team sprint to the net and back or the pit drill.

Corner Up:

All coaches will use “cornering up” when “huddling” during practice, transitioning between drills, after water breaks, explaining next drill, ending practice.

Dress:

Players will be required to wear a certain color PEAK t-shirt, 1 of their 2, to all practices.

ABSENT POLICY:

When the athlete has 3 absences during the season, the Coach and Director will conduct a review to determine if athlete should remain on the team.

Tournaments: Missing a tournament counts as one absence. Players are expected to attend every tournament.

The Director will evaluate all absences case by case.

Consequences for Player Being Late to Practice:

Without notification= 3 slides (volleyball suicide lines) per 5 minutes With notification right before practice = 1 slide Previous notification days ahead = No consequence (stay after practice to make up time)

Consequences for being Late to Tournament Meet Time: Coaches Discretion

Without notification= 1) Sit out 1st set 2) 3 slides per minute late With notification= 1 slide every 5 minutes late

Consequences for a Missed Practice:

Written email to director. Must Call Coach. Discretion of the coach as to when to make up the 2 hours of missed practice time.

Consequences for a Missed Tournament: Counts as an absence Discretion of director: Email must be written to the director. Player must call coach.

TRAVEL POLICIES

Transportation to practices and tournaments will be responsibility of a parent/guardian. Carpooling is encouraged. If a parent cannot provide transportation to a tournament, it is the responsibility of the parent to arrange transportation. Coaches may assist with transportation if absolutely necessary but it is not encouraged.

Hotel accommodations are the responsibility of the parent as well. Players are not allowed to stay with coaches.

Most tournaments have a “Stay and Play” Policy in which requires all players on the team to stay at tournament designated hotels. The club administrator will pass along information regarding tournament hotels if obtained.

MEETING WITH PARENTS/PLAYER POLICY:

If a player has a concern, it is expected that the player speak with the coach first. This needs to be a scheduled meeting before or after a practice. A tournament is not the time to hold a meeting if there is a serious concern.

If a parent feels the need to schedule a meeting to discuss a serious matter with a coach, a meeting must be set up with the club director, head coach, parent, and player. If any of these parties cannot make the meeting time, then the meeting does not take place. There will not be any one on one meetings with just parents to discuss playing time, etc. Coaches will not hold meetings with parents to discuss coaching strategies.

COMMUNICATION, SOCIAL MEDIA, & RELATIONSHIPS:

Be respectfulPlayers and Parents will be respectful of athletes, parents, refs, event staff, coaches and club directors at all times and conduct themselves in a manner that represents PEAK and our mission as club.

Establish and maintain appropriate coach-player relationshipsCoaches’ relationships with players will remain strictly about Club Volleyball. Social media use (such as friending on FB, re-tweeting or communicating through Twitter/Instagram) will not be allowed. Commenting on how your team did at a tournament is acceptable. Building a rapport and a relationship with your coaches is an important part of the experience, however, it cannot exceed the bounds of that and so please do not put your coach in a compromising situation.

PLAY TIME GUIDELINES

Our goal as a club is having players improve over time with quality training, producing winning attitudes, encourage positive team dynamics, and allowing players and parents to have a positive year by knowing ahead of time our TEAM concept. Our focus is team success and individual improvement. We feel that we need to clearly express our expectations regarding this sensitive matter.

Please know our coaches will do their best to distribute playing time. Everyone will receive playing time. We do not guarantee equal playing time. Our main focus in tournament play is team success. Skill development is guaranteed at practices, however again equal time during tournaments is not guaranteed. Each role of each player will be different for the team and the coaches have full discretion to place the players in roles that will make the team successful.

Players must show every effort to improve and work through the challenges that come with learning and serving a role on a team. We believe improvement starts with the work ethic and attitude at practice. What you do in practice is what you will do in a game.

While winning matches is one way to gauge the success of our club teams, it is by no means the only way or the emphasis our coaches will place on matches. Everyone wants to win, but it is not the only way we will define a successful season. Reaching the players and team’s full potential is our goal.

Playing time is non-negotiable with coaches and administrators. We have worked hard to secure experienced coaches that we are confident in their knowledge of the sport and in making playing time decisions. Parents do not approach a coach to discuss play time. We are asking you to trust the coach’s decisions and support your daughter’s role whatever that is.

Page 8: 2014 Carolina Peak Volleyball Club Player Parent Handbook

If there is a problem, players need to make every effort to talk directly with the coach. Understanding what they can do to improve their performance and skills is a positive first step. We believe this is a healthy step for player to speak with her coach and get feedback. If there is a conflict that will be resolved these are the steps: Player/Coach, Player/Coach/Director, and final step Player/Coach/Director/ Parent.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING A GREAT SEASON!!!!
