Brothers of AlphaEast – Welcome to Baltimore – Charm City!
Your presence at our 82nd Eastern Region Convention will and has made a difference in the lives of your Brothers and the city of Baltimore. As we begin this week’s activities AlphaEast remains “First of All, Leading the Way.”
We are the first region to have fully implemented our newly revised membership intake process. AlphaEast leads the way in chapter compliance with over 90% of our chapters having met full compliance – keep in mind this number includes at least 10 chapters with “0” members…do the math and we move to 97.6% compliant! AlphaEast, “First of All, Leading the Way.”
This year's convention experience will is slated to be just as trendsetting. With over 900 Brothers from each of our seven districts registered – to include registrants from Bermuda, Germany, Liberia and the United Kingdom – the regional leadership team takes pride in setting a standard of providing quality convention programming to maximize each Brother’s convention experience.
This year’s theme this year is “Reconciling Leadership & Brotherhood.” The intent is to provide opportunities for each attendee to reconcile within themselves that Brotherhood does not have to be sacrificed for the sake of leadership and vice versa. In this august body of erudite men there are innumerable examples of men blazing pathways of success and serving as role models for the next generation.
Be certain to participate in our “Life, Leadership & Brotherhood” workshop series intended to bring about discussions on best practices we can take back to our chapters and communities. Moreover, be certain to take the time to extend your circle of Brotherhood and fellowship with Brothers you’ve not met before this convention or strengthen the relationship with one you’ve seen or known of for years.
Our collective accomplishments should make us all proud to not only be members of the quintessential Black Greek-lettered Organization, but to reside in the region that started it all – AlphaEast, “First of All, Leading the Way.”
Thank you for your service to the Brotherhood and greater community.
Fraternal Regards, R. Anthony Mills Vice President Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity – Eastern Region

Brothers of AlphaEast, “We are Brothers in a deeper sense than they can comprehend, for when our bond has just begun, theirs are about to end. When we were searching for the light, as all Sphinxmen must do, they stood aside and laughed out loud, “I wouldn’t do that! Would You?” And yet when we had crossed those sands and the light we could finally see, they stood aside and whispered softly, “Oh how I wish it were me!” I know the decision I made was wise, of this I’m sure and have no doubt that each day in my life will have blue skies, for I’m an Alpha from here on out. And never again will I be lonely for I have Brothers everywhere.” -Exerpt from “He Ain’t Heavy” by Bro. Freeman Montaque, Jr.
Welcome to Baltimore, MD! It brings me great pleasure as your Eastern Region Assistant Vice
President to welcome you to the 82nd Anniversary Eastern Region Convention here in the Mighty Mid-Atlantic Association of Alpha Chapters, where our “experiment in brotherhood” was expanded to some of the Fraternity’s oldest and most reverend chapters. Beta, Beta Alpha, Delta Lambda, and Mu Lambda have been at the forefront of “developing leaders, promoting brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for [this] community” for almost a century. The Eastern Region Convention Planning Team has spent countless hours to prepare a weekend of brotherhood, excitement, and opportunities for us to recommit ourselves to Alpha Phi Alpha. Brothers, it is my hope that we can use this opportunity to gather at the table of leadership to advance our beloved House. Alpha Phi Alpha has seen some trying times, but through the commitment of the brotherhood to fix our House and the unwavering boldness of Brothers from AlphaEast, we are moving forward and continue restructure.
Again, WELCOME! We hope that you enjoy the fruits of our labors. I ask that you continue to illuminate the light of Alpha, continue to pray for your Regional and National leadership, and be an inspiration to another brother this weekend and forever more.
