ΑΠΟΛΥΤΙΚΙΑ ΤΗΣ
ΗΜΕΡΑΣ
/APOLYTIKIA FOR TODAY
Though the tomb was sealed by the Judeans and soldiers
guarded Your pure body, You arose, O Savior, on the third
day giving life to the world. Therefore, O Giver of life, the
heavenly powers praise You: Glory to Your resurrection O
Christ, Glory to your Kingdom, Glory to Your dispensation,
O Lover of mankind.
O Lord Jesus, unto Thee *Thy lamb doth cry with a great voice*:
O my Bridegroom, Thee I love*; and seeking Thee, I now contest*, and with Thy baptism am
crucified and buried*. I suffer for Thy sake*, that I may reign with Thee*; for Thy sake I die*, that I
may live in Thee*: accept me offered out of longing* to Thee as a spotless sacrifice*. Lord, save our
souls* through her intercessions*, since Thou art great in mercy.

O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the Creator most
constant: despise not the suppliant voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one,
to come unto our aid who in faith cry unto you: Hasten to intercede, and speed to make
supplication, you who ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor you.

Today’s scripture readings
Epistle reading
St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 3:23-29; 4:1-5
Prokeimenon. Mode 4.
Psalm 18.4,1
Their voice has gone out into all the earth.
Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God.
BRETHREN, before faith came, we were confined under the law, kept under restraint until faith should
be revealed. So that the law was our custodian until Christ came, that we might be justified by faith. But
now that faith has come, we are no longer under a custodian; for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God,
through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew
nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ
Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. I mean that
the heir, as long as he is a child, is no better than a slave, though he is the owner of all the estate; but he isunder guardians and trustees until the date set by the father. So with us; when we were children, we
were slaves to the elemental spirits of the universe. But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his
Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might
receive adoption as sons.
Gospel pericope
Matthew 4:18-23
At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is
called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately
they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their
father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and
their father, and followed him. And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their
synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and
every infirmity among the people.

have the luxury of paid janitorial services, which means we as a parish are responsible for maintaining
the good order of our facilities. Erline Holman has graciously volunteered to coordinate cleaning crews
to keep our Church in proper order. We’re asking for volunteers to assist in this important effort, if you’d
like to help out please call Erline at (507) 259-5443 for more info. Thank you!!! (Effective July 1st)
HOW TO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION—Only Orthodox Christians (i.e. the Orthodox Churchdoes not observe ‘open communion’) in good standing are encouraged to receive Holy Communion frequently, provided they have prepared themselves spiritually, mentally and physically. They must be on time for the DivineLiturgy, and be in a Christ-like, humble state of mind. They should be in a confession relationship with their priestor spiritual father, have observed the fasts of the Church, and they should have self-examined their conscience. On the day of receiving Holy Communion, it is not proper to eat or drink anything before coming to church. Whenyou approach to receive Holy Communion, state your Christian (baptismal) name clearly, and hold the redcommunion cloth to your chin. After receiving, wipe your lips on the cloth, step back carefully, hand the cloth tothe next person and make the sign of the Cross as you step away. Please do not be in a rush while
communing! Please take special care not to bump the Holy Chalice.
Pearls from the desert… Saint Ephraim the Syrian, the renowned teacher of asceticism, once decided to leave, for a time, his
beloved silence in the desert and go down to the city. "Lord," he prayed before setting out, "Put before me
a person to instruct me, when I pass through the city gate." But at the
moment that he reached the populous city of Edessa, the first person that he
encountered on his way was a woman of the street, who stood and stared at
him shamelessly. The Saint complained to the Lord that He had deigned to let
him find the opposite of what he had asked for. Afterwards, he turned to thewoman and, to evoke some shame in her, told her brusquely: "I am amazed
that you do not turn red with embarrassment for daring to stare at me so
persistently." She promptly told him: "I am doing that which suits me. Being
created from your rib, I should look at you. As for you, however, who were
created from dust, you would do well to have your gaze constantly fixed on
it." Receiving such an exact response, the Saint thanked God with gratitude.
A more beneficial lesson than this he surely could not have wanted.

Today’s liturgical commemorations
St. Kyriaki the Great Martyr: Saint Kyriake was the daughter of Christian
parents, Dorotheus and Eusebia. She was given her name because she was bornon Sunday, the day of the Lord (in Greek, Kyriake). She contested in Nicomediaduring the reign of Diocletian, in the year 300. After many bitter torments she wascondemned to suffer beheading, but being granted time to pray f irst, she made her prayer and gave up her holy soul in peace.
St. Thomas of Malea: Saint Thomas, though wealthy in material goods, thoughillustrious for the military trophies he had won in wars against the barbarians, forsook all that he had that he might gain Christ, and was led by a pillar of fire toMount Maleon. By divine grace he wrought wonders, cast out demons, gave sightto the blind, caused springs of water to gush forth, healed many, and while inprayer appeared as a pillar of f ire. The century in which he lived is not known.

STEWARDSHIP CORNERFrequently Asked Questions
How do I become a member of the parish? Membership in the Orthodox Church begins at baptism (Chrismation for some) and continues
throughout our life. We are united with Christ through the sacraments, or mysteries, of theChurch and through our faithful offering of our entire selves to Jesus Christ. Our Archdiocese
requires each parish to distinguish between voting members and non-voting members. A
voting member is over 18 years of age and turns in a signed stewardship commitment card,
committing a portion of time, talent and treasure to the Church. The Archdiocese also requires
the voting member to remain current through the year on their commitments. Keep in mind
that true membership in the Body of Christ involves living according to His word and withinHis Church.
Why must I commit to give a specif ic amount?
Please keep in mind that your stewardship of money is kept in the strictest of confidence. However, we do compile
the amounts anticipated to better plan our budget.
What i f I cannot f ul f i l l my stewardshi p commitment?
During the course of a year, people’s circumstances change. Your stewardship is valued because it is made out of your love for God and His Church. Please do not worry if you are unable to meet your stewardship commitment –
we are glad you are a part of this parish; remember, stewardship is also comprised of “time” and “talents”!
