Dear Friends,

I can see it now...the Warrior Princess stands high on a hill, in front of her people, dressed in a dark blue uniform, with a Salvation Army Red Shield held high, saying in a commanding voice, “These are my people and I am here to serve and protect them!”

A Warrior Princess I am not, but a caring person, I am. I love the fact that The Salvation Army is also caring and non-discriminating in the way that we serve the communities in Oregon & Southern Idaho every day of the year! We recognize that we could not do all that we do, without the help and support we receive from the community and people just like yourself!

The Salvation Army was founded to “Be a Shield - Offering Hope and a Future” to those who need a hand up, food and shelter, or understanding and care! In Jeremiah 29:11 the Lord says, “I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Our mission and joy is to bring hope to those who have lost hope, reminding them that a better future does exist.

We are so grateful for each community and person that supports our mission and vision. This report shows how companies like Fred Meyer, Target, Safeway and Lambs Thriftway, as well as Walmart, and countless others, have joined us to hold the shield high and offer hope and a future for those in need.

Volunteers from all walks of life help us fulfill that vision every day. Students from George Fox University worked at the McMinnville Corps. Citizens from Coos Bay served in an emergency disaster canteen at the Colorado floods. A Wells Fargo team helped to hand out 10,000 scoops of refreshing ice cream.

“Be a Shield – Offering Hope and a Future” is not just something we say. It is what we are. Thank you for the part you play. As an Advisory Board member, a program volunteer or financial partner, you help us serve Oregon & Southern Idaho without discrimination and with love and care for all mankind. We humbly thank God for each and every one of you!

May God bless and keep you in 2014,

Lt. Colonel Judith E. SmithDivisional Commander
