Paul Darragh takes over the role of interim head coach this season after serving 16 years on the Bloomsburg coaching staff as defensive coordinator. Under Darragh’s leadership, the Huskies’ defense has ranked in the top half of the PSAC in total defense in seven of the past 11 seasons. Darragh has started his tenure as head coach with a 2-0 record. Like Bloomsburg, the Golden Bears also have a new man on the sidelines as head coach this year - Drew Folmar. Folmar is no stranger to the PSAC, putting together a brilliant playing career while as quarterback at Millersville from 1997-2000. A member of the Millersville Athletics Hall of Fame, he was a four-time All-PSAC East Selection and posted a 20-4 record against PSAC East competition. He was promoted to head coach in January after directing the KU offense and coaching its quarterbacks since 2009 during a period when the Bears posted a 28-8 record. LAST YEAR’S MEETING Bloomsburg came away victorious, 44-37, following a shootout with Kutztown at Redman Stadium on Sept. 15, 2012. Both offenses were buzzing that day as the Huskies posted 555 yards of total offense and Kutztown finished with 470. Turnovers were a key - BU turned the ball over five times, including seven total fumbles, as did the Golden Bears. e difference came through Bloomsburg’s ability to balance the offensive attack a bit more than Kutztown - while the Golden Bears picked up 376 of their 470 total yards through the air, the Huskies passed for 246 yards with quarterback Tim Kelly and also rushed for 309. Franklyn Quiteh rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown and also registered 75 receiving yards and another score through the air. at #13 Bloomsburg (2-0, 0-0 PSAC E) Date: Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 Time: 1:05 p.m. Location: Kutztown, PA Stadium: University Field (5,600) Radio: WHLM 930 AM — Jim Doyle (play-by-play) Andy Ulicny (color) Webstream: ustream.tv/channel/ku-live Live Stats: KUBears.com Kutztown (0-2, 0-0 PSAC E) #13 BLOOMSBURG HUSKIES 2-0, 0-0 PSAC east SEPTEMBER Sat. 7 STONEHILL ........................... LAST TIME OUTLast Saturday was a day to remember in Bloomsburg football history with both Franklyn Quiteh and Danny Fisher setting personal career records. Quiteh broke the PSAC career rushing record with an eight-yard carry in the fourth quarter at Edinboro’s Sox Harrison Stadium, surpassing the previous conference record of 5,689 set by Bloomsburg product Jamar Brittingham in 2007. Quiteh finished the day with 231 yards and three touchdowns and enters this weekend’s game with 5,741 yards for BU. Fisher, meanwhile, established a new PSAC career record for kicking points with 291, breaking the old record of 287 set by Mark Brubaker of East Stroudsburg in 2005. Fisher also connected on two field goals to tie the career record of 50 set by Ed Detwiler in 1992. In all, the record-setting performances along with five forced turnovers by the Husky defense were enough to score a 47-35 victory. Bloomsburg registered 383 yards on the ground and 526 yards of total offense vs. the Fighting Scots to move to 2-0 on the year.

The trip to the western part of the state didn’t go nearly as smoothly for the Golden Bears, who suffered a 45-10 loss at the hands of California (PA). Kutztown trailed 24-0 at halftime and never threatened the host Vulcans, who forced Kutztown into four turnovers. True freshman quarterback Alec Warner continued to show promise with 295 yards through the air but also threw two interceptions. The Golden Bears failed to get anything going in the run game, registering just nine net rushing yards as a team.

CONTRASTING STYLESBloomsburg and Kutztown are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to moving the football on the ground. The Huskies lead Division II at 420.0 yards of rushing per game while Kutztown ranks last out of 162 teams at -7.5 yards rushing through two games.

HUSKIES IN ELITE COMPANYBloomsburg enters the 2013 season having won seven or more games in 14 consecutive seasons. Only five schools in the divisions of the NCAA have longer streaks: Florida, Florida State and Virginia Tech in the FBS; NW Missouri in Division II; and Mt. Union in Division III. The 14-year streak is also a PSAC record, breaking IUP’s mark of 13 set from 1984-1996.

NATIONAL RECOGNITIONThe Huskies’ jumped two spots to No. 13 in the Week One American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced Monday. On Tuesday, the Huskies were ranked No. 11 in the latest edition of the D2Football.com national Top 25. The Huskies also began the season ranked in multiple other national polls. Lindy’s

Football Annual tabbed BU at No. 10 in Division II while The Sporting News listed the Huskies at No. 17 in the country.

ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICEFranklyn Quiteh has been a model of consistency during his time in maroon and gold. The senior running back has set the school and conference records for career rushing yardage due to his consistency – his 231-yard performance on the ground vs. Edinboro last week marked the 34th time Quiteh has surpassed 100 yards rushing. For his career entering the Kutztown game, Quiteh has rushed for 100 or more yards in 34 of his 37 games with the Huskies.

CABRERA, QUITEH SWEEP PSAC EAST WEEKLY AWARDSThe Huskies swept the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week awards in Week Two with Franklyn Quiteh earning offensive honors and Tomas Cabrera snagging the defensive accolades. Quiteh’s selection was a near no-brainer after leading the conference with 231 rushing yards along with three touchdowns at Edinboro while establishing a new conference career rushing record. Cabrera earned his award by registering eight tackles to go along with a fumble recovery and interception, both in key situations, to help lead the Huskies to a 47-35 victory on the road.

SCORCHING STARTWith their 47-point output last Saturday, the Huskies have posted more than 40 points in their first two games of the season for the first time since 1926. That year Bloomsburg opened the year with a 44-0 triumph over Freeland and then downed Lock Haven 41-6 in the second game of the campaign. Bloomsburg last scored 40-plus points in three straight games between weeks three through five last year – tallying 44 points vs. Kutztown, 42 at LIU Post and 43 vs. Gannon, all victories.

IT ALL STARTS UP FRONTThe strength of the Huskies for many years has stemmed from its running game. Quiteh is the first to credit the work of the line in front of him for their part in his record-setting career. The veteran trio of Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler and Chris Steck have 91 starts among them during their BU careers. Steck leads the team with 38 consecutive starts, never missing from the starting lineup during his three-plus year tenure in maroon and gold. Last season, the Huskies ranked fifth in Division II rushing offense at 315.75 yards per game and set the single-season PSAC rushing record with 3,789 yards. The O-Line also surrendered just two sacks over the season’s final seven games, leading the PSAC and ranking seventh in Division II at 0.67 sacks allowed per game.

M A K I N G H I S T O R YSenior running back Franklyn Quiteh is re-writing the PSAC

record books this season by setting the conference’s all-time record for most career rushing yards. Quiteh broke the record

with an eight-yard carry in the fourth quarter at Edinboro, ultimately finishing with 231 yards on the day to push his career total to 5,741. Quiteh is currently the leading active rusher in all NCAA divisions - by a wide margin. His career total

is nearly 1,000 yards more than his closest follower, Melikke Van Alstyne of NCAA Division III’s Framingham

State (4,802). Quiteh also leads all active NCAA rushers in yards per game (155.2), all-purpose yards (6,018) and

rushing touchdowns (64). Quiteh has run for over 100 yards in a school-record 19 straight games and 34 of 37 career games.

OFFENSE STILL STREAKIN’The Bloomsburg offense has scored 20 or more points in 15 straight games - the second longest such streak in school history. The BU record is 17 straight games set between 2000-01.

COLORING THE RECORD BOOK MAROON AND GOLDFranklyn Quiteh has plenty of BU company atop the PSAC rushing list. Now that Quiteh owns the career conference rushing record, the Huskies occupy three out of the top four all-time PSAC rushing spots - Quiteh, Jamar Brittingham (5,689 yards from 2004-07, second) and Irv Singler (5,105 from 1994-97, fourth).

UNWELCOME GUESTSChances are Edinboro won’t soon forget its meeting with visiting Bloomsburg in Week Two. Not only did Franklyn Quiteh rush for 231 yards to break the PSAC career rushing record that afternoon, but the effort spearheaded Bloomsburg’s 383 yards of rushing. The 383 yards surrendered on the ground by the Fighting Scots were the third-most ever by any Edinboro opponent.

IT’S OLD HATWith his two field goals at Edinboro, Danny Fisher has now kicked at least one in 26 games, stretching out his own school record. He broke the record with two field goals in the season-opening win vs. Stonehill, breaking the previous mark of 24 set by Jon Koenig from 2006-09.

HUSKIES START NEW FACESWhen Bloomsburg took the field for the season opener vs. Stonehill, eight first-time starters were in the Huskies lineup. Ryan Geiger started at left guard and Dakota Hoagland was at right tackle. Connor Gades got the start at wide receiver and Jack Sandherr was the other offensive newcomer at tight end. Defensively, Larry Webster transitioned to a starting role at defensive end, Shawn Mitchell was at defensive tackle, Andrew Harris at will linebacker and Dylan Spangler at the buck linebacker. All of the offensive newcomers are redshirt sophomores as is Harris while Webster is a graduate student and Mitchell and Spangler are both redshirt juniors. Three more players made their first career start the following week at Edinboro when redshirt sophomore Garrett Pope started at the will linebacker and fellow redshirt sophomores Will Ridgeway and Donovan Morris got the starts at defensive tackle and safety respectively.

With his field goals of 32 and 36 yards at Edinboro last Saturday, Danny Fisher broke the all-time conference record for career kicking points (291) and also tied the PSAC mark for field goals with 50. Another 3-pointer this week will give him the field goal record outright, a mark that has been held by Ed Detwiler for over two decades. Fisher currently leads all Division II active players in field goals and is sixth among active players in all divisions (Chandler Catanzaro, Clemson, 56 field goals). Among active leaders in total points in Division II, Franklyn Quiteh leads

all players with 396 and Fisher ranks third at 291.

WEEK 3 • AT KUTZTOWN#BUHUSKIES.COM • #BUHUSKIES

WAGNER HANDLES THE PUNTINGOne of two true freshmen on the active roster to start the season, Will Wagner has taken over the Huskies’ punt duties. The native of Wernersville has impressed in his first two games, ranking second in the PSAC in yardage per punt at 43.5 in six attempts. He booted a new career long of 56 yards at Edinboro, his second punt of 50-plus yards, and has pinned the opposition inside the 20 four times.

CAREER DAY FOR MUNGERRedshirt sophomore Dai’Shon Munger steps into a larger role this season as the primary compliment to Franklyn Quiteh in the Huskies’ backfield. Munger made the most of his expanded opportunities against Stonehill, piling up new career highs in attempts (21) and rushing yards (135). His previous best day came against Millersville last season when he finished with 12 carries for 71 yards. Munger nearly broke his own career bests just one week later, picking up 133 yards on 21 carries vs. Edinboro last Saturday. He did set an important personal best - Munger reached the end zone twice for the first time in his young career.

GETTING OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOTRedshirt freshman Andrew Harris made a strong first impression during Bloomsburg’s season-opening win over Stonehill, debuting with the Huskies by leading the team in tackles with eight along with a tackle for loss and pass breakup. Harris earned the start in Week One as a late addition to the lineup at the will linebacker position. In Week Two, Harris backed up Garrett Pope, but continued to make waves. He quickly established a new career-high in tackles with 11 including 1.5 tackles for loss. After two games, Harris is tied for the team lead in tackles with 19 along with Justin Shirk.

HUTTON SETS CAREER BESTSSenior wide receiver Glenn Hutton Jr. has stepped into a leadership role this year as the only wide out with starting experience on the roster entering the season. Hutton looked the part of veteran leader vs. Stonehill, tying a career-high in receptions (five) and setting a new personal best for receiving yards (124) while also hauling in a 56-yard touchdown pass from Tim Kelly. Hutton’s previous best day came last year vs. Millersville (five catches, 120 yards).

RACKING UP THE YARDAGE The Huskies had no trouble moving the ball in their 41-13 win over Stonehill in the season opener, racking up 642 total yards of offense. That performance ranks among the top offensive outputs in PSAC history – the showing ties for 30th all-time in the PSAC record books for team yardage gained in a single contest, tying Edinboro’s 642-yard output in 1994 vs. American International. The conference record for yards in a game belongs to California (PA), which put up 757 yards vs. Mansfield in 2005. The most yards put up by a BU team in a single game is 685, which came in a game vs. Kutztown in 2010.

PARSNIK MAKES STRONG DEBUTAnother redshirt freshman, Joe Parsnik also made an impact in his first action with the Huskies. The Wilkes-Barre native rushed 12 times for 81 yards vs. Stonehill, including a rush of 17 yards. He averaged 6.8 yards per carry while spelling Franklyn Quiteh and Dai’Shon Munger.

‘D’ STRONG VS. STONEHILLMuch of the attention following the season-opening win over Stonehill centered around Bloomsburg’s offense, rushing for 457 yards and posting 642 total yards of offense. Defensively, the Huskies were just as sound. Bloomsburg limited Stonehill to just 198 yards of offense, the fewest yards allowed by the Huskies since giving up only 93 yards vs. Shippensburg on Oct. 16, 2010 – a span of 29 games.

CABRERA MAKES AN IMPACTJunior safety Tomas Cabrera is new to the Huskies, but isn’t without college experience. Cabrera comes to Bloomsburg after transferring from Division I Temple. At Temple, Cabrera played primarily on special teams. He was one of five true freshmen to see action for the Owls in 2010, forcing two fumbles, and also played in six games in 2011. Cabrera joined the Huskies this spring and immediately made a big play in his first game – a momentum-changing interception vs. Stonehill. With the Skyhawks looking to tie or take the lead in Huskies territory late in the first quarter, Cabrera made a diving interception at his own 16 to end the threat. Bloomsburg would score a touchdown on its next possession and never relinquished control.

CONTINUING THE TRADITIONWhile there is new leadership for the Huskies on the sidelines this season under interim head coach Paul Darragh, much has remained the same with the BU attack. Under former head coach Danny Hale, the Huskies made their name with a power running game. During Hale’s tenure, 23 separate players put up at least one game of 100 or more yards rushing. Darragh already has two 100-yard rushers as Franklyn Quiteh and Dai’Shon Munger both surpassed the total vs. Stonehill in the first two weeks of the season.

NEXT MAN UPBloomsburg entered the season looking for a solid full-time compliment to Franklyn Quiteh in the backfield. The Huskies may have found more than just one man to fill the role – along with Dai’Shon Munger’s 135 yards, Joe Parsnik also carried 12 times for 81 yards and fullback Matt Wenrich served as more than just a lead blocker, carrying six times for 30 yards and a touchdown in the win over Stonehill.

DII’S FINESTDuring preseason, D2Football.com unveiled its top 100 players in all of NCAA Division II. The Huskies were extremely well represented in that poll, placing three players in the top 11 and five 91

in the top 100 – including taking the top spot. Senior running back Franklyn Quiteh earned the honor as the No. 1 player in the poll, being credited for his speed, vision and ability to break tackles. The two-time Harlon Hill finalist was joined by defensive end Larry Webster (No. 9), offensive guard Brian Clarke (No. 11), center Chris Steck (No. 94) and defensive tackle Chris Kennedy (No. 96).

When the D2Football.com preseason All-America teams came out in August, the Huskies also had strong representation - Quiteh and Clarke were each first team selections while Steck and Webster landed on the second team.

MR. ALL-AMERICANOffensive tackle Brian Clarke has established himself as one of the top offensive linemen in the country over the past two seasons and recently earned a bit of national recognition. Clarke earned a spot on this year’s preseason All-American list produced by The Sporting News.

THEY KEEP THE HOME FIRES BURNINGThe 2013 season is the 40th in the history of Redman Stadium. In 2012 Bloomsburg was 5-0 at home, the 10th year the team has been unde-feated. The Huskies all-time record in Redman Stadium is now 135-66-4.

ROSTER NOTES>The Huskies have 11 seniors on the roster. Ten of those players are at least three-year participants in the program.

>Eight of the Huskies’ projected starters on defense are in their junior or senior year of eligibility.

>The outstanding senior trio on the offensive line of Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler and Chris Steck each started all 12 games a season ago.

>The offensive line boasts the highest number of combined starts from last year between returning players (36) while the receiving core returns the fewest (six, all by Glenn Hutton Jr.)

>Seven returning players started all 12 games last year (Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler, Chris Steck, Tim Kelly, Franklyn Quiteh, Chris Kennedy, David McFadden). Another four players (Justin Shirk, Tony David, D.J.

Robinson, Jonathan Patrick) started all but one game in 2012.

WELCOME BACKA key reason for optimism around the Huskies this preseason stems from the amount of familiar faces around practice. More than 40 letterwinners return from last year’s team, including 11 starters - five on offense and six on defense. The Huskies bring back seniors Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler and Chris Steck on the offensive line along with senior running back Franklyn Quiteh, redshirt sophomore quarterback Tim Kelly and senior wide receiver Glenn Hutton on offense. Defensively, junior Tony David and David McFadden along with senior Chris Kennedy return along the line as well as junior linebacker Justin Shirk and D.J. Robinson, a junior, and senior Jonathan Patrick in the secondary. Sacks leader Larry Webster also returns with one season of eligibility remaining. On special teams, kicker Danny Fisher also returns.

CALL ‘EM CAPTAINSSeniors Franklyn Quiteh and Chris Steck along with junior Justin Shirk have been named tri-captains for this season. Steck also served as a team captain a season ago.

MAN OF MANY TALENTSJustin Shirk has found athletic success on more than just the football field - he won the 2012 NCAA Division II national championship in the javelin thrown with a toss of 235-11 feet or 71.90 meters. As such, he was selected by DailyRelay.com as part of its “Preseason Track Football Team,” honoring the top two-sport (football and track/field) stars in the country among all divisions. He was one of four linebackers selected along with Courtland Clavette (Brown), Jared Minori (Susquehanna) and Cody Britt (Bethel (MN)).

NICE TO MEET YOUWhile second-year quarterback Tim Kelly has a season of experience under his belt, he will be throwing to a nearly entirely new group of receivers. Senior Glenn Hutton Jr. anchors the group after making 16 receptions for 240 yards and two TDs last year. Redshirt sophomore Connor Gades will get the call on the other side while fellow redshirt sophomore Trent Daniels brings size and speed to the outside. Junior Tony Peregrin has made

The Huskies rank number one in all of NCAA Division II in rushing yards per game at 420.0.

The outstanding offensive line trio of seniors Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler and Chris Steck have com-bined for 91 career starts.

At 206.5 yards per game, Franklyn Quiteh ranks second in D-II behind only Tyler Tonderum of SW Minn. St. (213.0)

Since the start of the 2011 season, the Huskies are averaging 35.2 points per contest.

National Pollsstrides through the spring and preseason workouts and will vie for time as well.

PUT IT ON THE BOARDBloomsburg has scored at least 14 points in 37 straight games dating to Nov. 7, 2009 against Gannon. Last year, the Huskies scored 20 or more points in every game and averaged over 37 points per contest.

TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOWLast year’s edition of the Huskies set the PSAC record for rushing yards in a season, finishing the year with 3,789 yards on the ground. That was good for an average of 315.75 yards of rushing per game, fifth-best in Division II.

GROUND AND POUNDThe Huskies have had 30 or more rushing attempts in 39 straight contests, dating back to Oct. 31, 2009. WHAT WILL HE DO FOR AN ENCORE?Defensive end Larry Webster made his Huskies football debut last year, but he looked every bit the veteran as he quickly became one of the PSAC’s best pass rushers. Webster ranked second in the PSAC in sacks with 13.5, trailing only Cal’s B.J. Stevens (14.5), and his 15.0 tackles for loss were good for fifth in the conference. Webster, who checks in at 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds, spent four years on the hardwood as part of the Huskies’ men’s basketball team. He was the 2011-12 PSAC East Defender of the Year and holds the all-time BU record for career blocks with 175. Webster picked up his first sack of 2013 against Stonehill in the season-opener.

SPECIAL K-ICKSThis season, the field goals made by senior kicker Danny Fisher will mean a little more than just points on the board for the Huskies. Fisher, the school’s all-time leader in field goals, has created an initia-tive called “Kick for a Cure” to raise money for the Angelman Syndrome Foundation. For each field goal he kicks this season, Fisher will donate money donated by supporters of the cause to the ASF to go toward disease research and awareness. Fisher developed the idea based on a close family friend battling Angelman syndrome, a neurogenetic disorder similar to autism that is caused by loss of function of a particular gene in the brain during fetal development. For more infor-mation on how to help, visit www.angelman.org.

FISHER NAMED TO MITCHELL WATCH LISTDanny Fisher also begins the season on the prestigious Fred Mitchell Award Watch List. Fisher is one of 34 place-kickers across Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA on the list after being nominated by their colleges for their excellence on the field and in the community. Top performers will be announced monthly with the Fred Mitchell Award winner announced in mid-December.

HUSKIES TO APPEAR ON NATIONAL TVBloomsburg’s game vs. Shippensburg at Redman Stadium on Halloween Night will air live on the CBS Sports Network at 8:00 p.m. The Huskies will be looking to avenge two losses vs. Ship last year.

The Huskies have scored 40 points in the first two games of a season for only the third time in school history and for the first time against collegiate competition. The only other times were in 1926, when the team scored 44 versus Freeland Mining Institute and 41 at the Lock Haven State Normal School, and in 1912 when Bloomsburg ran up 92 on Northumberland High School and 57 on St. Gabriel’s High School. The 88 combined points in the first two games of 2013 are the second most in school history behind the 149 scored in 1912.

Bloomsburg scored 40 points in a game on Saturday for the 82nd time in the past 20 years. The school record for most times in a season is seven, first set in 2005 and tied in 2007 and 2012.

The Huskies reached 500 yards of total offense on Saturday for the second time this season and 47th times in the last 20 years. The record for most in a single season is six, first set in 2005 and tied in 2012.

Bloomsburg has scored 20 or more points in 15 consecutive games, second longest streak in school history, behind only the 17 straight from 2000-01. The team continues adding to its school record of consecutive games scoring 14 or more points, which now stands at 38.

Franklyn Quiteh had his eighth 200-yard rushing day on Saturday, tying him for second most in program history with Irv Sigler, who had eight from 1994-1997. Jamar Brittingham had nine from 2004-2007.

The upcoming game with Kutztown is the 67th in the series between the two schools, dating back to the first meeting in 1927. Bloomsburg’s record in the previous 66 games is 44-21-1, 26-7-1 at home and 18-14 on the road.

Paul Darragh was named interim head coach of Bloomsburg University in February 2013 and overall will be starting his 17th season with the Huskies this year. Darragh has served as the Huskies’ defensive coordinator for the last 16 years. Under Darragh’s leadership the Huskies’ defense has ranked in the top-half of the PSAC in total defense seven of the past 11 seasons, including back-to-back second place finishes in 2000 and 2001 and a second place in 2009. The Huskies have also ranked among the best in the PSAC in run defense finishing first or second five times, including second in two of the last four seasons. The 2009 Huskies finished third nationally in scoring defense (13.36/game), pacing the PSAC. BU also led the conference in sacks, ranking 14th nationally (3.09 per game). In 2010 the Huskies were eighth in Division II in rushing defense (85.38 yards per game). Overall under Darragh’s leadership, the Bloomsburg defense finished in the top-15 in NCAA Division II six times since the 2000 season. Darragh has also coached 51 first team All-PSAC performers, seven All-Americans and two PSAC East Defensive Players of the Year in Anthony Smith (2009) and Mike Va-ranavage (2010). Prior to Bloomsburg, Darragh worked for two years at Indiana (PA) as the linebackers coach. He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Temple from 1987-89. From there, Darragh coached the linebackers at Northeastern and Gannon before being promoted to defensive coordinator at Gannon. He moved from Gannon to the defensive coordinator post at William Paterson College before joining the IUP staff. A three-year starter and captain for Temple, he graduated in 1985 after earning All-East honors as an inside linebacker. Darragh and his wife Yelena live in Orangeville with their children Sasha, Lemuel and Gabriel.
